I know it's Japanese for killer and such, but I had an itch to figure out what Kira really meant, so I looked it up. Behind The Name.com says its a Finnish version of Kyra, Kyra is a feminine version of Cyrus, which can sometimes associate with Greeks Kyrios, and finally Kyrios means "lord".
Interesting, is it not?

It's just a phonetic... last I knew, "Kira" only sounded like "Killer." I'm pretty sure it's written in Katakana.

...better than the random one I found out... "Kirakira" means "sparkling" in Japanese. xd
