Theress Why do they leave me all by myself? Why do they use me and bring me down? Why do they hurt me? Why do they leave me? Why doesn't anybody stick around?
Why doesn't anyone stay here? Why do they leave me? Don't they realize I'm a porcelain doll? Small, unsure, beautiful Breakable
If I sit here, waiting to be wanted Something good will pass me by Many people look through the windows But seldom do they ever look in my eyes
Why doesn't anyone stay here? Why do they leave me? Don't they realize I'm a porcelain doll? Fragile, helpless, unwanted Breakable
They can't tell that I am sweet They can't tell I'm like a porcelain doll Beautiful and demure But they will lie to me
Why am I not numb to this? Why can't I let it all outside my mind? Don't let me sit here collecting dust But please be careful, please be kind
Why doesn't anyone stay here? Why do they leave me? Don't they realize I'm a porcelain doll? Lost, alone, unsure Kind, demure, small Fragile, helpless Breakable Breakable
~Porcelain Doll, Megan McCauley~ Why be Ordinary, when I can be Extraordinary? Name: Theress
Likes: Attention of any kind, Commanding a room full of people.
Dislikes: Not being paid attention too, Guests whom aren't having a good time at one of her parties.
About: There are three sides to Theress. The one is the child-like Theress who's as spoiled as they come; ATTENTION-IS-OXYGEN-I-NEED-IT-TO-LIVE. She can throw tantrums with the best of them. The second is work Theress. Theress is hired out to conduct social events, a Hostess-for-Hire. She has quite an advantage over other Hostesses-for-Hire. She can Manipulate the emotions around her. Her parties are often the talk of the town and everyone throws themselves at her feet, hoping to secure her services. She books years in advance and at the moment the waiting list is ten years long. The third is Theress with Pip. It is only when she's with him that she truly becomes the person under all the Facades.
When you get past the first two Theress-s she's actually quite sweet and kind. She's just used to being the center of attention and working hard at being perfect. She actually can keep up with some of the brightest minds. Her facade of a brain-full of fluff is just that: a facade. And of course this is extremely useful in her line of work. But because she is very beautiful and because of her work, most people don't expect her to do much but sit there and act like a porcelain doll; seen, but not heard. They expect nothing of her, except what her job requires her to do: a perfect Doll with no thoughts or feelings, no duty other than to be appealing to the eyes, in conversation, in manner. Gracious, kind, inviting. She plays her role well. But of course she has her slips ups. It is then that she shows how truly clever she is and shocks more than a few of her patrons.
Seasonings: Powdered Unicorn Horn, Scented Shimmer Face Powder, Fae Dust, Moonbeams, Starlight, A Pink Silk Hair Ribbon, Shards of a Porcelain Doll's Face.
Skills: Able to catch just about anyone's attention, Able to sit still and learn things not considered appropriate for someone like her, Able to manipulate the emotions around her.

Theme 1: Introduction Theress doesn't need introductions. She pushes aside the elderly gentleman trying to introduce her to one of her most valued patrons and kisses the woman gently on the cheek, motioning for her to come inside. She pulls aside the gentleman, her patience pushed to her limits.
"Do not ever assume that I don't know whom I have invited," the man looks startled. Theress pulls back her composure.
Breathe, just breathe.
"You leave me to take care of everything," she says, smiling her winning smile. "It is what you pay me for." he smiles, slipping back into the comfortable reality that Theress is nothing more than a pretty decoration. Never mind that he had nothing to do with the planning of his own party whatsoever.
Men. Theress shakes her head. Better get it together Theress. Your night and your work have barely just begun.

Theme 2: Love Theress doesn't understand love. Not true love anyways.
She unlocks the door of the apartment and switches on the light. Trying to be quiet she puts her keys on the foyer table. Every one should be in bed and the last thing she wants is people asking why she is coming in late. Again.
But apparently tonight isn't her night. Because sitting in the big chair is Pip and he doesn't look very happy.
"We were worried about you," he says getting up. Theress shrugs, knowing she's worried them all and knowing there's nothing she can do about it. She feels arms around her, safe, warm, foreign and yet not. She knows Pip's arms, yet she is never or rarely touched.
"Why do you turn away from me?" he asks. Theress shakes her head. His affection is not something she can handle. She isn't one for romance, and her flirting is part of her job. None of it is real. Just an illusion.
"Why do you deny what we could have?" More head shaking. Why won't he leave her alone? He has illusions of what she is, just like everyone else.
"Why can't you see Theress, I can't live without you?" she slips out of his arms. She's heard enough. A hot shower and a good brushing down of her fur is what she needs, not love.
But somehow she ends up in his bed that night anyways.

Theme 3: Light Theress checks over the paper on her clipboard. A Cherry Blossom viewing party in the late afternoon. Cherry Blossom trees aren't blooming this late in the season, but does the client care? No, a big fat no. Theress can handle it, they're sure. More work. Not that Theress can't handle more work. But it means more hours spent away from her family. More worry on their part. That's what Theress doesn't like about more work. But at least it means more money. Money is something her family needs. So in the end Theress feels a guilty sort of pride. If she can't be with them all the time, then she will at least be able to provide for them to live in comfort.
"Jay, move that table over there please?" she points and asks of the young man bringing in the spindly furniture that could just as easily break as soon as you look at it. But the client wants light, airy, for everything. So when the furniture breaks, Theress is charging the client more when she has to re-import.
Light and airy, she mimics in her head. I can create light and airy with a snap of my fingers, but oh no the presentation must be there as well.
She surveys her work. Well so long as they're paying for it and I'm getting paid for it.....
In her mind this wasn't what she would have pictured for a Blossom viewing party. Who wanted to sit under the shade of a tent, when people came out for the sunlight?
Theress pretends to understand, but standing in a patch of warm light she knows she can't.

Theme 4: Dark Standing on the balcony of the apartment, Theress drinks in the night air.
Not everyone likes the dark. But Theress doesn't mind it at all. In the dark no one can see her. For once in her life she's invisible. As much as she loves the spotlight, it can get tiring. There are times when she just wants to fade into the background. But she's not lesser enough. She's too pretty just to be ignored. She must be where she can be admired. At least that's what everyone else says.
In the dark, no one can make assumptions of what she is and what she does. She could be anyone. A lawyer, a politician, a doctor. Anyone. Or she could just be Theress.
So while others find the dark uncomfortable, Theress values nights like these, full of starry skies and cool winds.

Theme 5: Seeking Solace Theress is in the kitchen, trying to figure out finances for the next party. The client wants more than what she's willing to pay for.
I might have to drop her, Theress thinks. It's been a while since I lost a client, but a party like this might not be salvageable. And then what will it do to my reputation?
She doesn't realize that her caretaker, Crimson, is standing in the hallway entrance watching her.
Theress separates papers into their respective piles. It's obvious. She'll have to drop the client. The damage to her reputation would be immeasurable. She puts her head in her hands.
"s**t," she says. The commission would have been helpful for the household. "On to the next one I guess."
"Knock, knock," Crimson says, knocking her knuckles on the wall. Theress is startled but quickly recovers her composure.
"Mom, what are you doing up?" she says, straightening up. Theress tries to loose the tired look she knows she's showing but it's hard; this client has taxed her to her limits. And all her hard work and worrying has gone to waste.
"Wondering what you're doing up at..." Crimson looks at her wristwatch. "Three in the morning?"
Theress looks up at the clock over the microwave. It is indeed three AM.
"Sorry Mom. I didn't realize that it was so late..."
"Working again?" Crimson asks, curious.
"Yes...well no actually. Making the decision to drop a client,"
"Oh," Crimson said, her tone completely neutral. "Well that's not really good. How much will it set you back?"
"Not much considering that I hadn't really begun to plan her party," Crimson nods.
"Have you ever considered taking a bit of time off? I've been thinking that maybe you, the twins, and I might take a vacation. What do you think?" Theress bites her lip.
"Mom just because I dumped one client, doesn't mean I don't have others to worry about," she sighs. "I'm sorry, but a vacation at the moment isn't an option." Crimson's face falls a bit, but she recovers quickly.
"I see," She smiles. "Well your work is important...." She turns to leave and looks back. "But a break is important too. Keep going like this hun and the exhaustion of all you do is going to catch up with you. And it won't be pretty." Crimson smiles and goes back to her bed. Theress stares after the woman she loves and would protect from her ways if she could.
Ten minutes later, Theress is snuggled up close to Crimson, crying for them all.

Theme 6: Break Away The party is in full swing behind Theress. For once, Theress has not been asked to throw a fancy upperclass affair. This time it's a Starlet's twenty-first birthday and all anyone wants to do is dance to flashing lights and drink till they puke. It's a chance to be a little bit less formal and to show the teenage flirty Theress. Here she isn't seen as an Airheaded Decoration. No, here she is a Party Girl.
At the bar she allows herself to have a drink. Pink Cosmopolitan, to go with her fur. She sips at it delicately, even here she has a reputation. It wouldn't do to allow herself to get completely drunk. But a tiny buzz won't hurt. She should be watching for any trouble, but things seem to be going well and the alcohol is inhibiting her Gift slightly. So instead she allows herself to be led to the multi-colored flashing dance floor.
Dancing is easy for Theress. She often does different dances for different parties, but this dance is different. She doesn't pretend this time, she just feels the music and breaks away from who she is. But that's ok; here she doesn't have to be perfect.

Theme 7: Heaven "What do you think is out there?" Pep asks Theress as they stand out on the apartment's balcony. He's the only one who will watch the stars with her. But this is a good thing. It keeps them connected.
"I don't know," she says. "Supposedly Heaven, but you never know."
"Do 'kits go to Heaven?"
"I don't know," she says again. "That might be an interesting question to ask the Doctor when we visit the shop again."
Pep stares sideways at her.
"Do you believe it's there?" he asks. She looks at him.
"I don't know what I believe in Pep. Except what I can taste, smell, touch, see, hear, and sense. Stuff that's all right in front of me."
"That must be pretty lonely sometimes," he remarks before returning his attention to the sky. "Not having anything to believe in. No higher power."
Theress also returns her gaze to the sky.
"Maybe..."

Theme 8: Innocence Theress watches the newest 'kit Crimson has rescued. Two new Olisikits in a couple of days; a new record.
Anthea, the Nymph from the woods, explores her new habitat. Theress notices how she jumps at every slightest noise.
"Different from what you're used too huh?" Theress asks. Anthea jumps higher than she has and whips her head around.
"Yes, it is,"
They face off, the only two female 'kits in the house. Theress can't tell what Anthea thinks about her, a first really. All Theress can feel is an almost animalistic mentality. But Anthea's eyes speak of a depth of knowledge unheard of in this day of age.
She was naive once, Theress thinks. She was innocent. But emphasis on was.
"Remember to ask permission before you take something that doesn't belong to you," Theress remarks, walking away. She's noticed the small silver handled brush of Crimson's Anthea has in her hand. "We don't survive here, we live."
"I'll remember that," Theress hears Anthea say. She looks back and watches as Anthea puts the small brush down onto the coffee table.
I almost think you really will.

Theme 9: Drive "Can you believe Theress? She pulled that one off perfectly!"
"And Mrs. Pierce wanted the near impossible!"
"Theress has been here since eight in the morning the day before yesterday, running on almost no sleep. And not a single mistake, not one. What I wouldn't give to have her talent,"
"Good grief! Since eight am? How in God's name does she do it?"
Theress smiles as she listens to her assistants gab.
Well at least it isn't idle gossip.
Mrs. Pierce wanted the impossible for her party. She bought dolphins four hours before the guests were to arrive and she wanted them completely trained to do tricks and jumps. Luckily, dolphins are quite telepathic, and it didn't take much for Theress to get them to do what she wanted. But just to piss off Mrs. Pierce, Theress accidentally had the dolphins sent to a zoo as clean up was in process. The woman didn't need them anyways and they will be much happier frolicking in a bigger tank or perhaps they'll be released back into the wild. The woman is insufferable and tweaking her gives Theress an extreme sense of satisfaction.
What the hell would she do with them anyways? Theress thinks, laughing to herself.
She says goodnight to her team, wanting nothing more than to get home. While her team admires and praises her for her drive, her family will always be more important in the long run.

Theme 10: Breathe Again Spring is Theress's most active season.
She and her team sit around the huge table in the conference room and discuss prospective clients and their events. In truth it's like watching a game of tennis. The team fires client names back and forth, discards them, moves on, comes back to the client they were just discussing, discards them again, moves on. Each client that is agreed on will be sent a special personalized advertisement and free expense quote. And anyone who is anyone will jump at the chance to have Theress host their party.
Theress and her team can go through hundreds of names and events and only choose ten of them to host. Theress, of course, has the final say. And as much as she loves hosting, Theress cannot wait until summer comes and the spring party rush ends.
So she can sit back and breathe again, until the next rush comes.

Theme 11: Memory Theress stands, chatting to a long time customer of hers. Per usual, her affair has gone off without a hitch.
"I mean, really Theress!" the woman says. "I've known you to throw parties before, but this one takes the cake! What do you do, plan these soirées all the time?" she laughs at this, even though what she says is true.
Theress does not have a single memory that doesn't include her not throwing a party. She's sure that there must be some, yet as the woman turns to another party guest to chat, Theress still can't think of one.
For the rest of the night, between mingling and entertaining, Theress wracks her brain trying to remember a time when she must have been carefree. But nothing comes. And with a slight tinge of horror, Theress realizes that whatever she was is gone now.
And the only memory left is what she has become.

Theme 12: Insanity "Pel,"
"Yes?"
"Focus, please?"
"I am Theress,"
Theress sighs. She's been trying, for the last two hours, to drill into Pelidne's head how it is not nice to break things and then expect poor Muffin to pick it up. But it's like trying to cup water in your hands. Eventually the water finds cracks to slip out of.
Theress watches as Pel's attention drifts and settles on the dust motes shining in the late afternoon sun.
"They're whispering again," she says, cocking her head as she listens to voices only she can hear.
Some days are better than others but at this point Theress gives up. Once Pelidne's attention is truly gone, then there's no talking to her.
"Theress?" Pel says.
"Yes Pelidne?"
"Go play with Anthea. She's always happy to see you,"
So Theress leaves Pel to her voices and her comfortable insanity.

Theme 13: Misfortune Guests are leaving. They're actually leaving!
"I'm sorry Theress, lovely party, but I really must be going...,"
"No, Miss Maybury, please, won't you stay? I can almost guarantee that this...won't go on for much longer,"
The spectacle to which Theress is referring is Count Hubun dancing with his young mistress on the dance floor. Teenagers today would call it "grinding". Theress calls it ******** is not the only thing to ruin Theress's arrangements. The h'ordeuvres that Theress's best chef had slaved over for days have made over half the party goers sick, the florist some how mixed up the arrangements, sending black orchids in the place of white lilies, and the DJ had been misinformed on music; techno, instead of a classical mix. As if these mistakes were not bad enough, several people have waltzed in who were specifically not invited. Count Hubun's teenage mistress, for instance. Countess Hubun has already left in a huff. Theress has tirelessly spent two hours trying to calm her down over the phone while keeping her as a client.
Theress excuses herself from Miss Maybury's presence and hurries to the kitchen, where her over-worked staff tries to prepare an edible meal. She pulls a shot glass from a serving tray and up ends it, and then almost spits it back out.
"Baileys? Are you kidding me? This was supposed to be Grand Marnier! What else can go wrong?" Theress looks around and realizes about half of her normal staff is missing. "Where is everyone?"
"Called out," Jeremy, the Sou chef replies. "Weddings, doctors appointments, root canals, you name it."
Theress lets out a tiny frustrated sigh; were she alone it would have been a scream. But she is not, and so she regains her composure and walks back out the door, to see if this latest misfortune is fixable or not.
