Moranna had curiously followed the two newer pups along to the border of the lands, she could smell her father patrolling nearby and so she felt safe. She couldn't quite keep up the pace as the other girls, but Venera and Tempeste already seemed to be as thick as thieves and Moranna was mainly following them for cover not companionship. She had noticed that while the two pups acted rather sweetly infront of the adults when they were alone things seemed different. It wasn't that they were bad, it was just the way they interacted.

She moved sluggishly through the area and finally stopped as she spotted Tempeste and Venera on the very edge of the packs marked territory playing on the riverbank, it was opposite the border of the Agua Azul Pack as Alas had forbidden any of the pups from going near there for safety.

Venera gave a soft cry of alarm and lifted her paw "Oh Tempeste this is dreadful, look at my fur I'll be coated with mud if we play here!" She pouted and looked at her 'sister' sulkily.

Venera could have been called vain, she was prone to showing her temper when her 'sister' was nearby to soothe her. If Tempeste wasn't around she acted very much like a proper little lady, but if she could gain her 'sisters' attentions and affections she quickly found cause for complaint or grief.

Tempeste was a serious girl, she only coddled her pink and white 'sister' even though deep down she wasn't certain their blood mingled at all. She loved her pack and she especially loved Crunch her father, her leader. She wanted to grow up to be just as strong and confidant as he was, she wanted him to see her as a real winner a little alpha in the ready.

She was fond of Alas as well, but Alas looked at her with guilty eyes and Tempeste disliked the feeling it gave her. She had clung instead to caring for Venera.
She turned and nuzzled her 'sister in comfort "Don't be upset Venera, the river is strong it'll wash off all that dirt when we're ready to go." She turned curiously as she spotted Moranna.

He had never imagined rivers as being slippery. Wet, yes, maybe with a current, and certainly muddy. Sand. Rocks. maybe with some plants at its fringes and a few fish passing just from sight in its opaque surface with their shiny scales glinting in a taunting manner. But slippery? Never crossed his mind.

Denzel had been minding his own business upstream from the trio, the large behemoth balancing upon a small smooth rock, his eyes scanning the water's surface. Here and there the little buggers would show themselves, but just as quickly they would dissappear back into the recesses of the river. Time and time again this hard lesson in fishing left him empty-pawed, yet the pup never once had the inkling of possibly giving up. His fixated determination to catch something rooted him to the spot, and all through-out his stiff muscles' screams he waited. By midafternoon, he had forgotten what it felt like to have legs and was in more of a concentrated daze than anything else. He hadn't a chance once the sunlight hit the water at an angle.

Fish. It had to be fish, right? And it was close. Without thinking, Denzel's paw shot out to nab the thing. And with one less pillar to hold his body erect, along with the forward motion, the next thing the pup knew he was tumbling head first into the water. The current was gentle, carrying him much like a babe being coddled in the womb, though it was a touch worrying that he couldn't feel the bottom. Up and down he bobbed, sneezing out the water that had jetted up his nose from his hapless dive and inwardly rebuking himself for having dozed off during the job. Wet, hungry, and still fish-less, the pup issued a bubble-making sigh and allowed himself to enjoy the ride for now, knowing that once he had been deposited somewhere it would be back to the tiresome work of finding food; a break was recieved in silent thanks.

It might have been his water-logged ears (he had been floating down the river for a time), but Denzel could hear voices. Females, he believed, unless the voices belong to males with very high pitches. Blinking his eyes, the mottled pup managed to begin slowly treading water until he was leisurely almost floating in place, and brought his head further above the surface for easier breathing. Colors rose to his vision first before their forms did: whites and pinks and oranges and some orange and blue, even. Other wolves, he realized, and blinked. Was he on someone's territory again? He was outnumbered if that came to a physical disagreement; another thing to add to his growing pile of misfortune.

Moranna issues a soft tip of her muzzle in greeting her tail wagging at the company of her packmates. Despite how difficult Venera and Tempeste could be they were still her companions in the den, it would have been nice to have her brother and sister as company but these two were just as fun. She sat down her legs a bit shakey.

"That seemed far, were still in the safety of the pack right?" She looked around a bit worried.

Venera watched Moranna approach and gave her a soft smile, she felt tender at times towards the weak pup she shared home with. It was obvious to everyone the way Moranna always stumbled, coughed, and fainted that she would have a hard time of survival.

"Don't be such a baby, of course were safe. This is the edge of the territory though...past that river we would be in unclaimed land." She sounded breathlessly excited by the idea.

"Hey what's that?" She frowned as she noticed something darker down river.

Tempeste turned curiously at Venera's exclamation her eyes widened.
"I think it's another pup?" She pranced over to the water's edge fearlessly. She let her paws feel steady, claws digging against the rock her pads firmly wedged against the dry parts of stones. It was as if she had been born near the water the way she felt so comfortable beside it.

"Hey you! Are you okay!?" She frowned, perhaps he was an intruder, maybe they shouldn't help him...but drown him?

The girl's exclamations were like gurgling nonsensicalities in his ears, but the tone couldn't be any more clear. As he continued to tread water, Denzel shook his waterlogged head until his ears felt a tad dryer. His limbs felt stiff still, though with ever passing moment he felt more relaxed as his paws pushed through the river, keeping him afloat. Three femmes were confirmed in his vision, their colors still swirling madly despite them now restricted to each individual's figure. How odd that they were alone and without any adults nearby . . . Or maybe he just didn't catch the sight of one.

The question. Right. Something about "being okay".

Denzel blinked up at them as he neared, his paws finally beginning to grasp the muddy bottom, though still not enough to catch purchase and anchor him down. The pup wasn't quite sure how to answer. On the one paw, he was starving, cold, wet, and now in the midst of strangers in who-knew-where's territory. On the other, he was alive and capable of escaping if need be, and his possible opponents were only youths his age. The first selection outweighed the other in his opinion nonetheless . . . Women could be just as vicious as any male.

So he shook his head in response. No, he supposed he wasn't quite alright at the moment despite not being in any immediate danger.

Moranna looked at the new male their age as he floated closer, he didn't look so good. "We better help him out before he gets smashed against a rock!" She edged closer on shaky legs.

Venera scrambled closed to the waters edge to grab at the scruff of the males neck and haul him closer to the bank. She found her hind legs loosing their purchase and started to slip in with her heavy burden.

Tempeste saw her 'sister' slipping into the river and grabbed her leg in her sharp puppy fangs. She yanked Venera up uncaring if the male managed to come with or not. She growled softly "Venera! Are you okay!?" She didn't care about that pup she only cared about her packmate.

Bertok was flying up ahead of Mahli, the little scrapped up male had demanded to be led to his sister's where abouts. The bird had insured the wolf pup that his sister was safe with the pups that Crunch and Alas claimed as theirs.

Looking down the green crow spied the little pup moving at a steady pace below him. "Why do you demand to be there?" Bertok inquired.

Mahli followed the bird, his ever constant familiar and moved around a large tree. He could smell the scent of the three girls and quicken his pace, not one to move with the same effort that maybe Massy could, but atleast he knew he could keep an eye on his sister.

Looking up to Bertok the pup, just glared and continued to follow his sister's scent. Hopefully he could get to her before something bad happened, he was aware of Tempeste and Venera's personalties changing.

That was when he spied the three near the river and Tempeste just pulling Venera back from the bank. Darting forward even more, the gray pale blue paws coating over in mud, slid as he got closer to the girls, hearing Tempeste ask Venera if she was okay.

How odd that they decided to lift him up . . . It was feat to be sure, for Denzel was quite large even by wolf standards, the appearance of his bulk watered down with his plunge into the river. They trusted him enough to pull him out, so in return he chose to trust them as well. Long limbs scrabbling for purchase as someone latched onto the scruff of his neck with pinpricks of pain, the pup aided their effort and was eventually flopped upon shore spread-eagled, his maw in the mud: the steadiness and assured placement of the gunk had never been more comforting after that toss-up in the water, even if it had been calming.

Now, for the situation at hand. With nothing to blur his vision this time, the soaked youth gazed up at the trio who rescued him without getting up, the twin specks of jade surveying them curiously as to what they would do now. Denzel dipped his head further into the mud once, an awkward nod of thanks to them, and was about to get up when he heard more pawsteps. Ears twitching in the direction of the newcomers, he glanced to see a ghostly figure padding towards them with purpose. Was he captured officially? And who was making that cawing sound? The bird was unseen to him until they came closer, and even then it was just a vague green blur.

Moranna looked up as she saw her brother approaching and gave a soft sigh of relief. Mahli always seemed to know how to ensure things went smoothly, her brother was certainly her hero. She walked over to him still a bit shaken first from following Venera and Tempeste and then the excitement.

"Mahli...we found him in the river...he seemed to need some help..." She danced a bit from paw to paw uncertain if her brother would scold her for her wanderings. She never meant to cause him concern, but she knew she did at times.

Venera nodded to Tempeste and scrambled to stand shaking off her now wet fur. "Yeah I'll be okay...is he alright? Who is he? who are you?" She peered down at the male that lay sprawled in the mud.

Tempeste gave a huff and slipped to sit back glancing at Mahli as he approached and giving him a soft nod in greeting. Her cold eyes moved up to the crow and she bared her fangs a bit disliking the loudmouthed avian. Perhaps someday she would catch him and eat him.

Another brilliant question. Lucid as his eyes were, they hardly played the part of being windows to the soul: not a single emotion was discerned in those small orbs of green. Name, name, a name, his name . . . What was it again? The pup's speckled brow creased slightly in thought as he sifted through the open caverns of his mind for an answer, a touch distracted as the red, white, and blue femme nervously bounced from paw to paw. At length he lifted his head up to annunciate clearly.

"Denzel."

Yes, he was sure that was what he was called. That was the only article that had come up under his search at least. The large pup sat himself up slowly, the mud almost invisible against his stomach sliding off and leaving his fur in messy, sodden clumps. "Denzel," he repeated quietly, to be certain. "Is alright." He eyed the other male and his feathered companion quizzically, the latter's sickly green hues eye-catching against the canine youth's pallid pelt. Both he and one of the other pups bore strange markings, like the remnants of disease. Denzel wondered if he should be wary, but the remaining two didn't seem ill at ease in the slightest. At most, the darker femme was showing disdain towards the bird, which made him wonder if they all knew each other.

Mahli had stood a bit flabbergasted or on the border of anger, didn't these two girls that their alpha was calling daughters realize what type of danger that could happen to Moranna in such a spot. He could see his sister being taken away with the river by having an accidental slid on the mud.

His collected white eyes moved from his sister to both Venera and Tempeste, both looking healthy and well, but after his returning nod of greeting he noted the hatred towards his unlikely feathered familiar. Mahli thought that Bertok was awful bright, too bright for his likings, but the Bird worked as a good scout high in the trees.

Looking down to the other male, the one that his sister was obviously concerned about, "Denzel, I'm Mahli, do you have anyone close to here?" The question was asked because Mahli could already hear his father's questions if he found out about this field trip, or the words of Crunch.

Anyone? He pressed the key word into his mind and patiently waited once more. Anyone, anyone, anyone . . . Strange how he was picking up a "no-one" instead of an "anyone". Not even an "everyone". "Someone" came up as well, but with no defining articles beside it, which rendered the word as useless as dirt to him. So in response, the pup shrugged, paused, and shook his head in better judgement. Even if he had an inkling of someone having been with him, a possibility was intangible and therefore inconsequential, so Denzel supposed the right answer would be to say no. Besides, if - hypothetically - there really was a wolf out there looking for him, they were doing a very lousy job of it.

Moving onto more important matters, such as his bogged down fur, he padded a small distance away (to be courteous) and shook himself madly, a small deluge of water expelling from his fur and raining down upon the surrrounding area. When he finished, though he appeared dryer, the pup's abnomrally large yet scrawny physique poked through. Though he wasn't on the verge of dying, he was in hard times. "Here?" the earthen lupine asked suddenly, tilting his head about. "Where is?"

Moranna moved to sit close to her brother soaking in a bit of his bodyheat and relaxing. She looked at him apologetic for a long moment for having wandered off. She was no fool, she knew how poor her health was often she would pass out or struggle to breathe with even the slightest effort. She couldn't often manage to catch more then a lazy rabbit, and usually not by chasing it down but by laying in wait for it. She knew these things, yet she wanted to badly to overcome her health problems. She meant no cruelty in her actions, only the desire to feel 'normal' for a while.

Venera stepped back to allow Mahli the questions and such content with a name for now.

Tempeste growled out a response to the male despite his larger frame she did not feel threatened at all. "You are near the border of our lands, those of the Alpha Crunch of the Akilli Chibale Pack" She watched as he shook the water from his coat and her eyes raked over him in assessment. He was large yes, but the way ribs were slightly lined told her he was probably not cared for by adults the way she and the others were. Even Moranna, a sickly runt, was plump with good meals. She gave a soft smile towards her packmate, she didn't hold Moranna's poor health against her, she admired in a strange way how she tried to overcome it. Tempeste was encouraged by the pack in general and most of all Aunt Twix to care and share and love the family, all the family.

He felt the pup's raking gaze almost physically and in response turned his own lucid stare upon them one by one. How intense the gray one was, so willing to act strong against a stranger such as himself and yet capable of - within seconds of her steely appraisal over him - send a tender smile towards her friend as she scooted closer to the Mahli being. The heart-carrier was stepping back to allow them more room, appearing well at ease after her rescue move, watching over them quietly as would a mother. And the diseased-looking femme, who had seemed so concerned for a foreigner's life, now drew strength from the other male as though she were drained of energy herself; siblings? Really they could all pass off from the same family from the way they acted as a unit, regardless of appearance. It was odd how quickly the instinct of taking part as a whole manifested in pups; already, Denzel noted, these four were working as an organized team, even if they weren't aware of it.

He respected that and decided to put off escape just a little longer to watch them. What was it that made this quadruplet work so well? Was it something taught to a wolf in a pack? He had to know. Even hunting - to his stomach's discontent - could wait a little while more.

The Akilli Chibale Pack, the blunt one had answered. The name meant nothing to him, but he stored the bit of information all the same and nodded once to show that he understood. Two words itched his tongue into speaking. "Thank . . . you." Yes, it felt appropriate enough; a nod was probably not enough to show gratitude. The pair of jade green eyes lingered upon the ghostly duo, glittering with curiosity. Where had they recieved such strange wounds? Was it that what was causing the female to tire so quickly?

Giving Moranna a soft nuzzle as he felt her press close to absorb some of his body heat and relax. Mahli wasn’t mad, he came to terms with mentally. The moment that Denzel shook his head no, Mahli then also noted the physical appearance once the fluffy puppy fur was lighted from the mass load of water on it. The ribs that were outlined made him regret the question, but Mahli also noted from the distance between the two, this male was bigger then him by a few inches.

The scrape marks on Mahli’s chest, cheek and shoulder where just the constant reminder of the mother that his sister and himself had been rescued from. Would they all have turned out worst then this bigger male if they had stayed with Necrala? No, the three musketeers would have found a way to live if their father never had come and their mother had left them, they would probably be just like Denzel.

However, Mahli did hear Tempeste misstate the name of the pack. “It’s actually Akiiki Chibale,” he couldn’t help the correction, his white eyes turned to his cousin in a simple manner of apology, but didn’t verbal say it. Turning his eyes back to the earth toned male, the corpse grey male looked towards the green bird.

Non-verbal communication between the wolf and his familiar was to go find some meat that was close by. Bertok took to the air and flew out along the river’s bank.

“You need something to eat,” Mahli stated, “Or have you already found something to fed from earlier?”

Moranna murmured softly against her brother's cheek "Maybe we could take him to the pack?" She felt badly for the male all alone, after his struggle with the river. She herself was very lucky to have a family and a pack that cared for her despite her failing health. She knew she surely wouldn't have survived alone, or even with her mother. Moranna tried not to think about her mother, she missed the she wolf greatly, but in her heart she doubted the female even gave her or her siblings a second thought.

Venera's ears pricked at Moranna's soft voice and she leapt up with a smile. "Thats a great idea! We could take him back with us, perhaps he could be a part of the pack?" She looked at the male to see how he reacted to the idea. Venara also glanced at her adoptive sister hopefully, Tempeste disliked strangers.

Tempeste allowed Mahli to correct her without any resistance because she loved him like a brother, she adored all her packmates. It was only her love for them that kept her from being so vicious, when the pup tried her paw at hunting though her true personality shone through, a killer at heart. She listened to Venera's excited suggestion and kept her mouth shut uncertain about bringing a strange pup along with them, what if he DID have a family? She didn't want trespassers on her 'fathers' lands.
