User ImageHan was a little tear-away! Each morning, he was awake early to survey 'his' lands and debate what adventure he should go on. He stuck around long enough only for breakfast and then could slip away easily amidst all the greens and browns of his siblings and nieces/nephews. With that many kids running around, who would notice him gone anyways?

Yesterday was vulture-bashing, so today would be stalking lessons. Unfortunately, Han never was very smart with picking his targets. The closest thing available to him today was a small group of rhino, and considering their foul temper, what began as stalking practice became 'tease the rhino.'

He was still only young, and just one wrong move could get himself killed. He didn't care though, he wasn't aware of the danger he was in. All he was doing was having fun!

User ImageUmo had noted that his brilliantly marked son was absent again. The twin to Pya-the son who had left the family so soon. Umo was naturally attentive to his sons-thats what a father does. So, when everyone had settled down, and Kika, Kina, and Hasani had them under control-he slipped away from the throng and headed out to follow his boy.

Umo had always been baffled by Pya's and Han's markings. He wasn't used to seeing the marks of his father and close siblings on his children. It was a new feeling-a bit of fear lingered. After all, Tope had aquired Umo's fathers' temper... what if this half of the family did as well. He shook these thoughts from his mind as his large self padded on.

He spotted the olive top-fluff that was no doubt his sons. He crouched, watching to see what his son was doing today. He bent his head to rub his eye against his paw-to deture a fly that had been bothering him-when heard something...

The unmistakable grunts of Rhino...

Umo stared up at where his son was... what was-his-son-doing?

After a few successful runs of taunting a rhino into a charge and then dodging unharmed, Han just had to up the game a bit. The rhinos were agitated now though and on the edge, and kept bluff-charging at the obstinate cub at even his slightest movement.

"This could be a problem..." he muttered to himself.

If he could just sneak up on one of them...he flew back into the long-grasses, walking sneakily but making a lot of noise regardless. He had yet to learn the finer points in hunting. And navigation. He didn't know how to sniff for his prey and began to wander AWAY from the rhino, since he couldn't see through the grasses. All of a sudden, he bumped into something solid, but furry.

He looked up.

It was his father.

"Ooops."

Umo could not believe the courage of his son. That, and he was extremely nervous about it. His son, out there-amongst Rhino. He shook his head... looking back down at his paws with eyes shut.

Courage... That was something Umo did not have much of. Sure... he had fluffy-loving-goodness... He was not much on the brave or other maleish traits... but perhaps his swirled son would. Pya... deffinutly had some testosterone... a good and bad thing perahps.

He sighed and was about to get up and head to his son-when before he knew it-he was tripping over something. He tumbled foreward onto his chin, his hind end up in the air. Crimson eyes blinked in his surprise.... what the heck.

He turned his head to gaze over his shoulder-at his son?

Young man... He said, his deep monotone voice muffled by his mane and the ground-both. He shifted, trying to get his back feet under him. What are you doing?

Han looked thoroughly shameful and yet couldn't pull his eyes away from his father's gaze. Instead, he was giving him the sad-puppy-dog look.

"Ummmmm...I was...just explorin'...and stuff..." he began, wondering just how much of his rhino-taunting his father had seen. If he'd seen it all unfold, Han was doomed to punishment surely!

Umo stood up, shaking the dust from his dark pelt. He gazed down at Han-seeing Kika's eyes in his... and he felt less angry but still upset. He gazed down at Han and then glanced in the direction of the Rhino's-where they grunted and ticked up dust. Han... He said, sternly, looking back to his boy.

Han... were you seriously out there teasing Rhino's" He asked, shaking his head. Oh what a son... First Pya had ridiculous with his idea's of weakeness and now his brother was out teasing an animal that could very possibly kick his butt.

"Ummm....nooo...." he blatantly lied, but in an innocent childish way. "Okay...maybe..."

Han started to shrink into the scenery, wishing everything would go dark andhe could slip away un-noticed or something.

"You're not gonna tell mom...are you?" he pleaded, quite fearful of her reaction as well.

Umo sat looking down his his son with a stern look. He had never punished any of his children as others had. Umo had always been the soft-kind hearted male. Always happy and soft spoken-despite his monotone voice-he had been the best father he could be. He had always been a large male-mostly pudge-but amazingl loving-he had a difficult time punishing his young.

I won't tell your mother this time Han... but... I do not want you getting so reckless... Rhino are not to be toyed with... especially at your age...

Your sister is out there on her own and has always walked with a limp... you do not want to be cursed with one from your own miscalculation..."
He said, his red eyes staring. "Your mother would be devestated.. if anything happend you any of you...

"Yes father," he replied sullenly. He sounded as though he'd learned his lesson.

The story of his sister with the limp was a quick way to get him to shut up and listen to sense, at least for a short while. Han looked down at his small, intricately patterned paws and then looked across to his father's immense paws. He secrelty hoped he'd be at least the same size as his father one day.

Maybe the rhinos wouldn't such a problem then.

"Well...if the rhinos are bad, what CAN I go play with...?" he asked honestly, still eager to stir up mischief on this bright day.

Umo gazed down at his son an d smiled-pulling him close with his big paws. He snuggled his son close-his red eyes shut tight. Seeing his children grow into beautiful adults-and here Han was... not rebuking him or such. Soon, the children would be of the age-to leave their parents-and Umo knew that most of his newest family would leave.

He pulled away from his son and put a paw to his chin. Who indeed. Well... actually. You could play with your big brother Ardhi or perhaps your other brother Taka... or one of your cousins He said, his deep baritone voice accented with a smile

Han flailed a bit as he was drawn closer to his father, then snuggled into the mass of fur and warmth. Han was not so old as to be embarrassed about loving his parents. That'd come much later in life.

"Hmm...well...yeah," he listened to Umo's suggestion with a slight wrinkle in his nose. The whole reason he'd gone off exploring was because he'd already played all the game she knew with his siblings and cousins. And then...an idea!

"Yeaaaaah! I should go play with my brothers..." he smiled widely, marvelling at his own brilliance. He'd come back to the rhinos - in greater numbers! That'd be more fun!

Umo smiled down at his son and gave him a kiss. This was one thing that Umo was born to be-a father-one that he had never had as a child. Crimson eyes shut and he sighed with pleasure-he enjoyed hearing good things from his kids. He was also pleased that the sons that resembled his father the most-were nothing like him at all. He drew himself from his son and stretched his paws-a yawn escaping his maw.

"A grand Idea my boy... Just don't let me catch you 'or' your siblings out here with the Rhino's again... Test your strength and speed with something less-dangerous... for your mothers sake..." He said, shaking his head before standing to full height and turning from his son. "And now that i am assured you are safe... I am to head back to your Mother and take a rest with her....

Be safe my son
He said, padding his way back to where kIka waited for him.

Han appreciated that his parents loved him greatly, and he loved them in return as much as a son could. At least at this age anyways. He looked over his shoulder at where he'd been taunting the rhinos and decided to call it a day. If he returned too soon, his dad would most likely never forgive him.

"Wait up dad...I'll come with you, at least to go play with my brothers or sisters or something," he said enthusiastically, partly to please Umo and partly to start plotting with his siblings.
