((NOTE: The cubs are going to be into late cub-hood, early juve-hood. They were born late IC'ly, and grew early OOC'ly. Please be sure to RP them appropriately if you join! <3))
His mother hadn't actually given him the orders, but he knew of her plans, and he had volunteered to stay back to aide the family in their escape. He wanted what was best for the twins Chen and Yin, as well as their many other siblings, and a life of servitude among the Firekin, should the traditionalists win (though his visions seemed to lean towards a draw) was certainly not for the best. He moved swiftly until he came into view of the den, stepping into view of the entrance, a towering form even at his age.
Be it that Meilin herself was small, or that Kadogo was growing quite large even by Firekin standards, he clearly outmatched her in brute strength. Thankfully he was here to help, and not to fight, but Meilin didn't know this right off the bat. Immediately rising the pale, former Mistweaver stood protectively over her cubs, baring fangs and glaring down the Firekin until he stepped far enough in that she caught his scent and clear lack of questionable intention. The twins looked up in surprise to see their master here in the den when it seemed the whole lot of Firekin were out fighting.
"Hurry. There isn't going to be much time and we must make haste while the pride is distracted." He grunted, moving back to the entrance where Ilahle had come to help him usher the family to the borders. He was, after all, still just an adolescent, and though he wasn't lacking in experience, he was lacking in full size. By coming together they offered a solid protection against one or two traditionalists, and they could help carry the cubs if need be.
"... Come on now, you lot, you heard. Move lively." She encouraged sternly, moving to nudge any that hesitated to rise into getting up so they could make their escape. She knew the plan, the plan was to meet with Vian at the jungle, but they needed at least a headstart there.

Huang got up dutifully to follow his mother with the others, mind racing. Oddly, his 'mistress' featured in his mind a lot. Even though she knew about the plan of their escape and had even offered her help...Ilahle was a Firekin and his 'owner'. He was sure he shouldn't care about what she thought so much. But then he'd spent almost as much time with Ilahle as his siblings and parents - and it'd been mostly alone, out hunting or wiling away the hours. One of one bonding time, hours of her attention and those brilliant smiles that were just for him when he got things right.
He felt such loss as they started to leave.
*
Ilahle'Wamuhu was late in meeting Kadogo at the den for one simple reason. Lately she'd been chatting with one of the older Firekin, Vuvimoto. While she'd thought she'd found a kindred spirit, this day she'd found she'd over estimated his rebel-streak. It cost her in not being able to get away and was costing her dearly now, as she dodged his attacks and painfully took what punishment he dished out on her for daring to question tradition too much - a little was fine, to Vuvi, but Ilahle had revealed herself today as a true rebel at heart. She was just into adolescence and since she had grown out of playfighting, had focussed more on hunting than combat. He, meanwhile, was experianced and had the height and weight advantage.
Least she was quicker. Frustrated, she dodged under a heavy paw responding with a lighting fast jab at his face. She snarled and jumped back, feeling the wetness on her claws.
*
By Finar-si! She was glorious. Black as night and quick as a snake. It was a shame the young female was a traitor. Vuvi growled and turned his cheek, letting his mane take as much of her strike as possible. He'd lost a friend in this one. He had to fight her....though he thought of Saburi and wondered where she was in this madness, he wasn't about to run off to find her when Ilahle clearly had somewhere else to be. Whatever rebel plan he was ruining Vuvi hoped it was worth it. He had loved her like a daughter almost.
Saburi he knew, was a traitor too. He wasn't sure what he felt or thought about that beyond feeling he should find her now. he'd grown so very fond of the orange eyed female, so much he'd started to think...he loved her and not like a daughter at all. But duty held him here, fighting Ilahle, duty and confusion.

He had just seen the last of the lot out of the den and towards the glistening sands when the sounds of the fight reached his ears. There was chaos all around, but this close to the dens?? Kadogo cursed softly, a snarl coming to his muzzle. Looking to Meilin again he said sharply-- "Try to put some distance and stay out of sight!"
The lioness would have no room to argue as the adolescent raced back the way he had come to find Ilahle. He wouldn't have to go far.
".... Let's go. Keep moving!"
Not spoken harshly, simply firm, a reminder to some of her dawdling children that the need to hurry was indeed present and urgent. She rushed them on to put some space between the den and the oncoming fight. Thankfully with the traditionalists having such small numbers (Unknown to Lin) compared to the rebels there seemed no one left to look after a few lowly slaves.
Wherever Vian was, she hoped he was fighting smart...

With the arrival of Kadogo, the fight didn't pause. It didn't need to. It looked to be over. Ilahle lay on her side, trying feebly to gouge out Vuvi's belly with her back claws but finding them trapped under the weight of his body. Her head was as forward as she could get it with Vuvi striving to reach that vital vein...
She'd acted like a huntress in their fight. Forgetting about the forms of fighting she'd tried a trick that'd work on large game - a bull for instance - or your average lion but had been foolish to try on an experianced Firekin.
Ilahle'd gone down.
*
His grip was too high. Up by her scruff, mostly loose skin and fur. But if he put enough pressure into it he could snap her spine. Or at this angle he could easily get a better bite at her throat. Or even stay as he was and throttle her. The problem was, Vuvi wasn't sure he wanted to. He was stalling and was just trying to stop her struggling.
When they regained control, he'd ask if he could keep her as a slave. Keep her alive. Oh Finar-Si...what madness was this anyway? They'd been friends this morning and here he was seeking to spill her lifeblood upon the sand or wondering if he could barguin for her life by keeping her as a slave...he hated keeping slaves.
Those rumors from so long ago. The downfall of the Firekin. They'd proved true at last.

Kadogo saw this and his blood froze. At the same time it boiled, boiled with anger and a sudden thirst to draw every ounce of blood that he could from the dark b*****d pinning his friend to the ground, trying to kill her! That's all he saw: That b*****d was trying to kill Ilahle!
He moved with anger and a sudden surge of blind fury, but he was no fool. He waited until the moment that he had leaped, back legs unleashing the coiled tension to send him hurtling towards Vuvimoto from what he only absently in the back of his mind hoped was the older lion's blind side. It didn't matter. He'd rip the son of a b***h's throat out!
"GET OFF of her!!" He snarled as he connected, claws extended. He was expressing, perhaps, the most emotion that he had since he was a child, and most of it rage at that. He'd bottled it up for weeks, months. Only Ilahle knew that there was truly more to Kadogo than that stony silence, or even that terrified and desperate child. He was lost in a mix in between, and the only time he felt truly alive and sane and whole was when he was with her. He'd be damned if anyone took that away from him or dared try to hurt her!

Concentrating as he was on stopping Ilahle from escaping his hold while he debated the ethics of killing her vs. capturing her Vuvimoto had completely left himself open. Had this been a raid on a rival clan and not a civil war he'd never have done so. But while Ilahle had inexperiance as her excuse for lousy fighting Vuvi had shock. It'd knocked him for six and everything was just so confusing.
At least to his credit, Vuvi took the blow as well as he could and through the pain remembered to rolled with it. To try to use his weight to gain something from the momentum, dig his claws in.
*
Ilahle didn't see Kadogo come but at his familiar snarl and the sound of his voice her spirit flared up again, pheonix like. One could have said it helped her neck was no longer clasped and her lungs crushed, and it was simply oxygen that brought life back to her. Not that she'd too been close to blacking out yet, but if she hadn't got up it would have become a problem if Vuvi'd chosen that rather than a quick snap or simply taking a stab for her jugular. It'd made her resigned and stop most of her struggling, since it was getting her no where.
Maybe it'd been the fresh oxygen. But she'd say it was Kadogo that gave her back her spark. Her dearest and most difficult friend, the one she knew best and sought out most often. The one she loved fiercely even if she didn't recognise it yet. And now he was her rescuer. Her life had literally been won with his claws and now -
She snarled breathily, getting to her paws quick as she could and rushing towards the pair.

As Vuvi began to roll with the attack Kadogo had little other logical choice than to let go when it was of benefit to him. He wasn't foolish enough to think he could get the better of the male with their difference in weight, age, mane, and experience, but head on he'd have the opportunity to think on his feet rather than backed into a corner.
He came back up easily, also digging his claws into the rock bed that made the base of their cliff home, the snarl never leaving his lips.
Just the briefest of glances at Ilahle, from the corner of his eye. To one observant enough that might be all that was needed. He worried for her, perhaps more than just a brother-figure or a friend. It was a silent look to confirm she was alright. Ilahle's rising caused his anger to simmer just the slightest bit, but he stubbornly held onto it, used it to fuel his blood thirst. He was glad now that he had spent some time honing his gift, maybe it would help to win this fight now.
"You'll regret laying your filthy paws on her." He threatened Vuvi, beginning a slow, partial circle, sizing his opponent up fully now.

"So says a traitor!" Vuvi snarled, with all the conviction he just wasn't feeling. He was a traditionalist yes, but he'd watched this pair grow up. He knew who they were, knew their families, had seen them sick together as cubs and now - it seemed he had to fight them. They were enemies now. In the end no matter his misgivings it boiled down to that. He circled around in that most ancient battle-dance, seeking an opening to attack Kadogo and keep Ilahle in sight.
"If my paws are filthy it comes from having touched her." Two against one. He had to focus. He had many advantages over one alone but two could be more formidable. The young male was a sight and would grow up to be a demon, Vuvi thought, so full of anger...and he had his angry angel behind him too.
*
Ilahle turned to scan for anyone else nearby but those closest had fights of their own to keep them occupied. She stood her ground and waited to see how, if, she could help Kado without getting in the way.
"Hurt him Vuvi and I'll hunt you down like a preybeast..." Ilahle showed her fangs and muttered the threat darkly, filled with her own rage. She was bleeding and getting her breath back and had no intention of letting her best friend end up in a simular state.

"So says the victor." Kadogo corrected, though the battle had only just started. It was confidence and not any act of future-telling that made him throw the taunt out there. He felt none of Vuvi's conflicting emotions, because the only lion in the pride that Kadogo was close to was watching them circle with a hawk's eye. She was the only one he'd allow in after his own mother and siblings had given him the cold shouldered brush off. Just thinking about Vuvi's jaws on her, again, made Kadogo's blood boil, and a roar rippled from his throat as he made the first move to charge suddenly at Vuvi, going for his face knowing that he'd have to improvise, his fangs weren't long enough to penetrate that thistled, thick mane that his male counterpart had for protection, and he had to keep Vuvi's jaws away from his own throat, but he wasn't about to show any fear or hesitation to this one.

Vuvi reared up to either bat at the lion whose target with now higher than he had aimed or if he changed stance to match, to clasp his paws around him. The first meant he could get in a slash or maybe two then dodge. The second was to hold on and bite where the throat was vunerable if possible... but not ideal in case Ilahle joined in the fight. Neither were really steller battle plans but Vuvi's skill and strategy was fading away fast. Every second the inner war in him raged more fierce even than the real battle...
He didn't want to fight his fellows. Didn't want to fight. How very un-Firekin of him, he thought.

Unfortunately for Vuvi Kadogo very much wanted to fight out of need, and he would do so like a demon possessed in defending his closest friend. The phrase might never rung so true again. He was consumed with the thought of protecting Ilahle, or would have been if not for the warrior in him refusing to be blinded. As Vuvi reared up, looming over head, Kadogo saw a different opening and so he took neither predicted action. Instead he suddenly increased his charge speed at that last crucial second when he should have risen or lunged, getting as close as he dared could and threw himself at Vuvi's middle, throwing his arms around the larger male in an attempt to take him down by momentum and weight combined.
This way he was too low for Vuvi's jaws, but had a clear shot at Vuvi's midsection-- if only the older's claws didn't get him first. Kadogo was ready to make a quick dodge to avoid being impaled in Vuvi'moto's possible flailing, but should his plan fail it was the perfect opening for him to tell Ilahle to jump in and take the shot to do it herself.
He had seen the rock looming behind Vuvimoto, and taken advantage of the terrain in hopes of simply rendering his opponent unconcious, a quick end to the battle that wouldn't leave him for dead, for even in a rage Kadogo wasn't interested in uneeded blood spill, and the fight needed to be brief.

His forearms reached down, claws digging in, teeth went to bite down at the place where Kadogo's neck met his shoulders - but Kadogo's vision rang true. Vuvi's head struck the rock and though he fought to stave it off, his last thought filled with shame and hope, his vision went black and he passed out.
While he had lost and might die shamefully in his sleep, at least he hadn't had to harm these two, traitors though they were to Finar-si now it seemed, who he'd seen grow up. May the Goddess forgive him for it...and protect Saburi since he's failed her too.
Knocked out entirely, Vuvimoto lay on the reddening sand.

He stepped back, chest heaving from the rush alone, the adrenaline racing through his blood. Staring down at the male as he slipped into darkness, he too felt relieved. He would have without hesitation if he'd been forced to, but he had few lions that he felt he could respect as it was, he didn't want to make that list any shorter. He had faith that none of the rebels were so blood thirsty that they'd kill a defenseless traditionalist... he hoped.
Kadogo turned to Ilahle again and moved swiftly, butting her shoulder with his own. "Let's go, Meilin and the cubs may still need us."

Ilahle nodded and after a not-too-gentle look at Vuvimoto's head wound - damn things for the scalp bled more freely than most flesh even when a wound like this was light - she followed. She rubbed a paw on her own neck ruefully as she went. While she was glad with the outcome, she was riled. Vuvi had almost killed her, they (or rather mostly Kadogo) had almost killed him...and there were still yet others who may actually be killed if they didn't hurry.
While she was worried, she knew in her gut that this was what she was bred for, fighting. She was a Firekin true and she felt no distaste just fiery passion for the war to go well for her side. And go well it would.
END.
