With a loud yawn, Tapiwa stretched out her forepaws, claws dragging through the dirt as she bared her fangs to the warm sun. It was a typical day for her...and she'd taken her regular doze under the dappled sunlight that flitted beneath one of the scraggly trees that appeared at random on the landscape. The dark lioness had been traveling for...months now. Some with her mother, and some with her father, and then she'd struck out on her own, figuring that three sets of paws were better than two in the search for her brother.

Tapiwa, however, was starting to lose all hope of ever finding him in the vast Savannah. He'd had plenty of time to travel, and even if he was still alive, he wasn't likely to be anywhere near...and what were the odds that they'd find him anyway?

Slowly coming out of her languid stretch, she moved gracefully to her feet, and shaking the dust from her fur, she then proceeded to dash out into the full sunlight, pattering quickly through the grasses. It was time to find a snack, and perhaps something to drink, if such could be procured. Whatever the case, it would be hours before she rested again.

A sleek, tan body loped lightly through the grass, brown ears catching the sound of it as it rustled dryly against his sides. Red eyes scanned the savannah, but didn't really see it. His mind was too focused on planning, on thinking what he'd do next when he saw Sheng again. Ushukuru, former prince of the Pridelands, had grown scruffy and underfed in his time as a rogue, but since meeting Trigger, he'd set himself to getting strong again and it seemed to be working. The tan male had filled out, strengthening as he was forced to fend for himself.

He was too distracted to notice a new commer streaking acrossed his path, the two nearly colliding before the male back-peddled, skidding to a stop. "Hey!" Ushu called out as he sat down hard, eyes wide and startled. Who the heck was that?

The female came to her own skidding halt, baby blue gaze fixing on the tan male in astonishment, scolding herself inwardly for not having noticed the male before now. Goodness me how very rude. Her father would have scolded her for her inattention to her surroundings, and well would she have deserved it in her opinion.

"Oh goodness! I'm sorry! I suppose I startled you!" Making a quick note of him, eyes skimming the other's form, she smiled faintly, "I should have been paying attention, forgive me?" Almost instantaneously he registered in her mind as a very handsome specimen of the male of the species, not at all hard on the eyes.

The tan male frowned as he looked over what appeared to be a young lioness, his expression open and readable. He wasn't entirely sure what to make of the situation he'd found himself in, or what to do about it. Part of him wished he could turn tail and run, but another part hated the thought. What would Sheng think of him if he was running from females? And a young female at that... It would probably confirm his suspicions that Ushu was gay, which he very much was not... or at least, he didn't think he was...

Shaking his head vigorously to clear it, he looked back to the female in time to hear her speak, pausing as he listened. Sitting back more naturally, he layed his ears back as he struggled to work up a reply to her. Drat... why was it so hard to talk to females?

"I...um... yeah, whatever." He mumbled, ducking his head almost shyly. "My fault... should have been watching where I was going, I guess."

She noted his behaviour almost immediately, the fact that he seemed almost instantaneously shy around her. Some inner part of her giggled girlishly, but luckily it didn't happen aloud or she would have been terribly embarrassed. My, this fellow was nice on the eyes, and his mannerisms thus far were adorable as well.

"It's all right!" She assured hastily, "I'm certain it was just as much my fault as anyone's."

Ah yes, Tapiwa, remember your manners now... "My name is Tapiwa'Titilayo, though those I know generally call me Tapiwa. Who might you be, sir?" Cocking head to one side, her blue eyes blinked at him in feigned innocence.

She wanted to get to know him, that was for certain, or at the very least, talk to him and find out more about him...and whether or no he was worth making a friend of.

If nothing else, new friends were always a good thing.

At the moment, there was nothing the tan male wanted more than to get his behind out of here and away from her, but he had his manners too, and that would have been terribly rude of him. Needless to say, he was highly uncomfortable around this pretty young female.

"Tapiwa, right, yeah. Um... My name is... Ushukuru." He mumbled, keeping his eyes down, though he couldn't help but glance up at her every once in a while. Yeah... that wasn't awkward at all.

Trying to settle himself, he gave his head and neck a vigorous shake, feeling his thick made poof and then settle again, lying soft and sleek on his neck and shoulders like it was supposed to. He found himself hoping he looked presentable, even if the thought of attracting her as a female terrified him. Still, he did want to look good... Uphold the family honor so to speak, or that's what he told himself. Even if he'd given up his past and his family...

"I just... I should... probably get going. Sorry for getting in the way and all that." He mumbled, struggling for words worse than usual.

Shy, was he? That was just a little something that could be overcome, but not if he didn't stick around. If he just ran off, well...there was a likely chance that she would never see him again, and that just wouldn't do. Wasn't every day a girl met a nice fellow, even if he seemed bashful.

Clearing her throat, her tail flicked in what might have seemed an irritated fashion, were it not for the amiable look on her features. "Oh no need to go! It was more my fault than yours. You wouldn't just run off on a lady, would you?" Blue eyes were almost impossibly wide, feigning an innocence that was only half reality, the other half was entirely female wiles.

"Where did you come from? Do you live in these parts?" Introductions had been taken care of, it was time to proceed to the getting to know you bit, which Tapiwa was looking forward to with some great anticipation.

She had to somehow find a balance between continuing the conversation, and driving him away with her somewhat talkative nature, a trait inherited from her sire.

Ushu whinced at having his manners called out, his ears laying back as he relunctantly settled back to sit. Cream paws settled before him as his tail curled around them, eyes ever on the ground. He knew he should get over himself, but it was just so hard... and what would everyone he'd known think of him? Ezeoha, Ukai... Nyx? To see him like this...

The tan male squared his shoulders as he slowly raised his eyes, still not able to meet hers, but no longer locked on the ground. "You'll... have to pardon me, Tapiwa. I've been alone for a while now and I'm afraid I've become rusty on some of the finer points of etiquette. I'm not used to being around others, lately." He paused a moment as he thought over her questions, pondering how to best answer them.

"I came from a little den near here where I've been staying, to hunt for some food. I don't really live here, but... I'm sort of staying here until I find something better." He rolled his shoulders as he shrugged off his 'mysterious' past, bringing the conversation back to her. "What about you? I've never seen you here before."

((log from AIM rp))

She really hoped she hadn't offended him, calling him out like that, but it hadn't seemed to have done any serious harm, and so with that, she purred inwardly, for now he would talk to her, and conversation was really all she had in mind for now. Tapiwa could not help but wonder indeed what had made him so very skittish.

"I'm sorry if I inconvenienced you." She apologized, "but I've been wandering a good while, and a chance to talk to a nice fellow is a chance I daresay I don't wish to pass up, you see?" The female chirruped happily, eyes flickering with pleasure.

"And I come from a goodly ways from here in the rogue lands....and I was searching for my brother in the beginning...it began when I was very young, and for a while I traveled with my mother, but...we parted, and I've been on my own!" Somehow she didn't seem too upset about it, sure, she loved her family dearly, but she had an independent streak that made her desirious of chosing her own path.

The tan male listened intently, curious about the past she mentioned. He'd only taken recently to traveling... he wondered what it must be like, to spend your life that way, to start life that way. Which, of course, drew his mind back to his own reasons for traveling, and the thought that his children would never have to know if they didn't want to... they'd be born into the safetey of the Pridelands, to a lioness that was entirely wonderful and didn't deserve what he'd done to her.

His expression fell as he dropped his eyes to the grass again, his ears drooping. "That sounds nice." He murmured, unsure of what else to say to her. She seemed to be an indepent sort of creature, smart, confident of herself... and everything he wasn't. "Did you give up on searching for your brother?" It was something to ask, hopefully something polite to say to fill the silence.

She sighed heavily at that, "I suppose I did." Tapiwa murmured, ears flicking back against her head. "I do hope to find him again some day...but one can only search for so long before it becomes repetitive, and it is...very likely that whomever whisked him away is very far from here now...perhaps in one of the more hostile lands." There was a wistful note to her voice, and her gaze seemed to be fixated on something very far away. "I still miss him sometimes, but it seems as though our childhood was so very long ago."

Sighing, she seemed to shrug off the dismal air that had touched her at the recalling of that particular woe. "I'm here to find a new life for myself, I suppose...it certainly can't harm things now that I'm old enough."
PostPosted: Fri Jul 25, 2008 10:51 pm

"I think I understand that." Ushu said softly, nodding as he listened to her. He didn't know what it was like, searching for someone like that. He'd never had anyone he cared about enough to search for... It took a lot of courage and determination, that was sure. She rose even higher in his regard for that thought, his own self falling lower.

"That's... kinda what I'm doing too." He said softly in surprise, his red eyes rising to her face now for the first time. "I decided I needed a new life, so that's why I'm out here. I havn't really found anything yet, though... there's not much here..." Well, besides that large red male he'd met... Sheng was here, somewhere. But, well... she really didn't need to know that.

"Oh!" The lioness grinned at Ushu's words, seemingly pleased by them. "So you're looking to start over too then?" Now they were kindred spirits in that sense, and she felt an immediate form of kinship with him, Ushu didn't know it, but he'd suddenly found himself saddled with a friend that he was unlikely to shake easily, and a female one at that.

"Even if there isn't much out here...surely there's something elsewhere...perhaps even just days away, and imagine that all we have to do is let our paws carry us." She laughed softly, her eyes alight with inner pleasure. "If you think about it that way, life seems a great deal simpler." Though she knew it wasn't, for it bore its complications, she couldn't imagine that there was a being in existence that lived a life utterly free of such worries.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 25, 2008 11:20 pm

Ushu let a little smile tug at his mouth, the first he'd given in a while. He just hadn't felt up to smiling, but her words... well, they made him feel good. They gave him hope, strangely...

"It would be nice if things were that easy..." He said whistfully, looking down at his own paws, tipped in cream. He wiggled the toes, thinking about what might happen if he just closed his eyes and started walking... would they find him a place like she said they could?

"But... I don't think it works like that. Nothing is that simple." His voice dropped, struggling to stiffle the rise of emotion in him.

"Well...I wouldn't say nothing...some things are far more simple than they seem, and others more complex. There are simple things in life too." The female cocked her head to the side, regarding him curiously, Ushu really seemed a conflicted soul, though he didn't seem likely to talk about what made him that way.

The tip of her tail twitched thoughtfully as she pondered her next words, "But just because life has become complicated...I don't believe it means we have to be cynical about the rest of it." A smile crept onto her maw, and the pleased glitter flitted back into blue eyes. "That's what my father always taught me...sometimes life leaves us in the dust just so that we can find the gems it has hidden there for us. My sire believed that's what his family was to him...a treasure that made up for everything else." And even though her brother was gone now...and she had separated from them, there was still her mother, ever-loyal, and she knew that that was all that Mor'faerion needed to be happy with life.
