 Today was a rather warm day for it being the end of February and with warm weather came all of the creatures that froliced in the warmth. Melanthios had been following after the smaller creatures lately. A honeybee leading him through some flowers, a ladybug flying among the grass and now a jumpy little grasshoper entertained the happy colt as he jumped along after it. As predicted, he hadn't known he was wandering away but his mind usually just emptied when things caught his attention.
As Mel continued to follow the grasshopper he stopped when he came to a small stream which brought him back to reality and that his family was nowhere in sight. Uh oh..

 Hopping along the little filly failed to realize that she was nowheres near her family. Even if she had noticed she wouldn't have minded. She liked being able to show that she can do things on her own. Neva had to stick up for herself against her two brothers. Being the only girl sucked. Though she did have an older sister whom she met once. Her older sister was hyper!
As Neva continued to bounce along she came across a stream. Poking her nose into the water she gulped a big drink of water. Hopping and bouncing took alot of energy. Her wings spread out when her head was lowered which made for quite a sight. She had no idea how to control the silly things. All they did at this time was annoy her. There was no purpose to them yet. Though father and mother said that they did have a purpose. She didn't believe them.

Mel could have sworn he heard hoofbeats somewhere near him and after turning around a few times he finally spotted a foal that had wings just like his brother and sister. Temporarily forgetting he was kind of lost and had to go home, he head over to the filly happily. "Hi there!" he smiled as he stood on the other side of the stream. "My name's Mel..Well Melanthios but usually it's Mel. What's your name?? I haven't really met anyone else yet except for my family." He was starting to wonder though if everyone had wings except him. No, no, because momma didn't have wings so that just mean he was more like her which made him smile.

When the other foal started talking to her Neva jumped back with a snort. She hadn't expected to have company today. Coming back closer to the newcomer she snorted and pawed at the ground with her hoof. She noticed that he lacked wings unlike her family. Her family all had wings. Shaking her head she looked at him and smiled. "Hi Mel. My name is Neva. You're the first one outside of my family I've met!" she exclaimed, her eyes shining. Perhaps she'll be able to make friends really fast.

Even though his brother and sister had wings just like her he was smart enough to know not everyone had wings except him. If momma didn't have wings there were bound to be others who didn't have wings too! "Hi Neva!" he grinned happily. "So we're like each other's first friend! That's so cool! Do you have a brother and a sister too?" Even though they only had one thing in common so far, the hyperactive colt was determined to find more. Maybe she had seen some of the creatures he had seen too! He couldn't wait to tell momma about his new friend...Even though he'd probably get in trouble for wandering away and being gone so long.

The little filly was having fun already. Her first time sneaking away and acting independent from her family was great! It was nice getting away from her brothers that's for sure. "We are each others first friend!" she exclaimed wide-eyed in agreement. At his question of siblings she had to stop and think. She had two that were her age but she also had two that were way way older. "Well I do have two brothers that are as little as me. I also have a big brother and a big sister. They are tall!"

"Wow that's a lot! I have a brother and a sister that's my size and momma told me that we have a bigger brother but I haven't met him yet." Mel bounded through the small stream to the other side where Neva was and wiggled his little tail. "We should go explore! I don't know about you but I'm not supposed to be away without my parents so we should make the best of this while we can before I get found," he nodded.

"I'm not suppose to be without my parents either. But I can handle myself so I'm proving it to them!" Neva said with a very enthusiastic and affirmative nod. Her wings were stretched out slightly as she talked but she noticed them and tucked the bothersome things back into her sides. "Exploring sounds like a lot of fun! Where do you want to explore? Though if we do go exploring we should go in a direction where neither of our parents are going to find us." the little filly suggested with another nod. She did not want to be caught by her parents just yet.

"Hmm.." Mel pondered where they could explore where there parents wouldn't catch them easily. There was SO much to explore, he figured either way, it would be a while before they got caught. "Well since I came from that way," he motioned to the opposite direction with his head, "and you came from the other way, why don't we follow the stream up the middle! That way we're both equally as far from out parents. Plus who knows what we'll find if we follow the stream." He danced excitedly on his hooves as he grinned at Neva.

Follow the stream? That was a wonderful idea the little filly thought as she bounced excitedly. "Sure! Though which way are we going to follow the stream? Are we going to go the direction the water is going or the other way?" Neva couldn't help but ask. She didn't want to run in one direction while her new friend went the other direction.

"Let's go with the flow!" he announced happily. "Maybe we can find where the stream empties, maybe into a lake or something! C'mon!" He started off bounding down the bank, occasionally jumping into the water for a quick splash before returning to dry land. It was nice to have a friend now, other than his siblings and parents. Sure he loved them but someone new meant new adventures and new excitement.

The little winged filly bounded after her new friend as they ran alongside the flow of water. It was almost as if they were the water themselves. Minus the whole being completely wet thing. She though stayed out of the water not wanting to get her wings wet. Wet wings didn't fly well. Even though she couldn't fly at all yet.

Mel slowed to a walk, figuring they'd be far enough away by now that their parents wouldn't catch them yet. "So how long do you think it'll take our parents to find us? I know my mom gets kinda worried about us wandering off but I can't help myself. There's just so much out here to see!" he said excitedly and grinning over to his friend. "Do your parents get worried about you wandering off too?"

"Well seeing as both my parents can fly it probably won't be to long before they find me." Neva said with exaggerated sigh. "My parents are super overprotective. It's hard to go off and explore when you've got an adult overtop of you all the time."

Mel blinked a couple times as he stared at her. "I forgot about flying. My dad can fly! Oh no! We better keep moving or else we won't have anymore time together! My parents are just like yours though so I know how it feels." He continued on trotting by the side of the river and soon enough, just as he said, they came to a large lake that the river emptied into. "Wow! I bet there's fish in there!" he shouted as he jumped into the lake, only until the water came up to his knees. He stuck his head down, trying to see the fish but ended up with a mouthful of water. "Ack! Aww how am I supposed to see the fish??"
