The night sky was all glow with all the stars lighting up the sky with sparkling dots everywhere. This was Dimu's favorite time. When the sky was black and the stars were bright. But even so, it was hard to enjoy the stars when she knew the star she had followed for so long was moving. It was why she had left the Dawnwalkers land, atleast for tonight, to see where it was going. Her star had stayed in the same place for a week, and she had thought her life would stay in the Tuait'Tekem lands, but now it seemed that she was called to the wandering rogue lands once more. It made her heart ache as she missed ehr wandering, but she also knew she couldn't wander far. Her four sons needed her, her pride needed her.

As she turned her rose hued eyes to the sky, she slowly walked, following her star. She was so absorbed int he stars, and what they were tellign her, that she missed it when she tripped over a root, and fell down a slippery mud slope into the shallows of a river. Dimu was dazed as she lifted her face from the water and gasped for air, feeling her joints ache from the fall. Being close to the oasis, there was a river that ran through this part of the lands and made it's way to other pridal lands. It was no surprize this river was infested with crocodiles, but Dimu had forgotten that fact at this precise moment as she slowly tried to pulled herself to her feet, but found her front, right ankle was sore and it hurt to put weight onto it.

It took the hissing sound of a hunfry croc before Dimu turned and gasped at the sight of large blood stained teeth. Then she remembered the dangers of the river and pushed herself onto her hurt joint and pulled herself out of the water and onto the sandy banks. However, the croc seemed content to stalk the injured lioness even out of the water, and backed her up to the slope she had slipped down.

Sairin didn't mind the night. He'd found himself restless, unable to sleep, and his insomnia allowed him to roam the roguelands aimlessly. The male padded silently along the river, mind deep in thought when the hiss of a crocodile alerted the male to the beast's activity, and the green-eyed male looked up to spy it's activity. He snarled-- the beast had a female cornered, and the male rushed, roaring a threat at the crocodile as he leaped from bank, to a stone (slipping just so!) and leaped on the other bank, before rushing the crocodile.

Personal safety didn't cross the male's mind as he pounced, sinking his claws into the animal's skin. The massive lion snarled, struggling with the beast.

Dimu had cowered as the crocodile advanced and sut her eyes tight, half expecting to be ripped in half with in moments. But then a roar rumbled in her ears. She opened her eyes to see a large male pounce onto the crocodile and attack it. Saving her. She watched in shock, half expecting to wake up in a moment. Someone had saved her. She hadn't expected anyone to be up around this time of night.

Then reality hit her. This male HAD saved her. She felt weak and helpless, unable to aid the lion who was now struggling with the river lizard. A giant lion, so much bigger then her, for she was small by lion standards. His size reminded her of another encounter she had had in the rogue lands. But she wouldn't think of that now. Right now she needed to get away, get to the over side of the river, where there was no slope to trap her agaisnt.

With a fleeting look to the dark male who was now her hero, she carefully leapt from rock to rock across the river until she landed on the other side, then turned back. "Please don't get hurt." She said softly, not loud enough for him to hear, for she didn't wish to distract him and cause him injury or death.

The male snarled, tearing into the lizard angrily. Sairin was a lucky one-- being large gave him an edge, and he finally drove the crocodile into the water, snarling in his chest at the beast before looking around for them female it had tried to make into lunch. His white ears flicked forward, and he looked around.

"Hullo?"

Dimu heard signs that the fighting had stopped. She perked her ears forward and listened for the dark male until he called out a "Hullo?" Dimu stepped closer to where she heard his voice until she could see him, and figured the dark no longer covered her white pelt. She eyed him quickly, looking for any wounds for her to feel guilty about.

But she found none, and decided to speak before he thought she was being rude. "Hello." She called back softly, feeling very grateful, but also very nervous. The croc encounter had shaken her up and she was jsut now grapsing the fact that she was safe. "Thank you for saving me. I owe you my life." She said a little stronger, her soft voice filled with gratitude and thanks. she felt she owed this large male now. He had saved her, when he could have walked away, or just ignored the situation. She only hoped he was a kind hearted lion. But, she had a good feeling about him. He might have been large but he had saved her after all.

Sairin regarded the female a few minutes, then broke into a gentle smile.

This was what he lived for and enjoyed, and to see it benefited someone....

He felt a brief rush of joy for the first time in a long time, and rose, bowing his head politely.

"It was my pleasure." The male spoke gently. "I.... Enjoy helping others."

He didn't know how to vocalize his pleasure in protecting others well, but the female... He liked her, just something... Seemed pleasant. He relaxed a bit.

It was the first time he'd relaxed since seperating from Ishara.

His voice seemed to calm her and trample any hesitation she had about him. His oice was too kind and sincere when he spoke. He really meant what he said. He liked helping people, even Dimu who could be a bit oblivius, could see that. When he bowed Dimu watched him with curious eyes. He was so polite. That was it. He was a hero. He had to be. He was polite, charming, and strong, and liked helping people. If nothing else, in her heart forever, he would be her hero.

"I'm glad you do. I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't happened upon me." She said with a shy smile. Then with a blink, she realized she hadn't introduced herself. "My name is M'Dimu Chanua, by the way, but please call me Dimu." She paused to let her name sink in before she went on to ask, "so, what may I call me new found hero?"

She owed him alot, as did her sons. What would have happened to them if she had been killed? they would have been orphaned, and then left to be taken care of by the nanny's. As good as they were, they were not mothers... They wouldn't replace Dimu. The boys would be so depressed. They were all so close to Dimu after all...

Sairin pricked his ears forward at the word hero.

Hero...? Him....? It couldn't be. He was unfit. The male looked sheepish a minute.

"My name is... Sairin." He blinked, still shy.

She wouldn't think he was so heroic, knowing he'd lashed out and harmed the innocent before...

No, she mustn't know.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Sairin." She said brightly as she dared to move closer, standing a comfrotable distance form him, but not so far it was hard to hear if he spoke softly. As far as she knew, he was a hero, even if he seemed modest right now. It only made her feel more comfortable around him. This lion, Sairin... Dimu had a good feeling about him.

"So what were you doing out so late wandering along the river?" Dimu asked, trying to initiate a conversation to breka him away from the sheepish demeanor he had recently taken to after hearing her call him a hero. "Do you live in a pride, of family group near by?" She asked curiously. She knew that her own pride was looking for new members, lions and other creatures who could fight and hold their own against the vultures in this war for the temples.

"...Thinking." Sairin said, quietly. He listened, ears flicking forward, then he shook his head.

"I have no pride, nor do I live with my kin."

He thought of Shin. By now, even Shin wouldn't need him......

His ears drooped.

Dimu's face filled with concern. "Oh? So you are all alone?" She asked remember when she had elected to be alone a time ago. From the way he was acting, it seemed he missed being with others. Dimu, even now, knew that she would be too lonely and her heart would ache if she left and her cubs just grew up with out her.

"I live in the Tuait'Tekem Pride... it's located in a string of Oasises just on the other side of the river." Dimu sakd with a small smile. "You'd be welcome there any time... but... it's a little crazy there now... we are having some issues with the local Vultures." She said wandering if she was telling him too much. Well... he didn't have a pride, and he seemed to be all alone, so she didn't believe that he could threaten the pride. Plus she hadn't shown it to him yet, and as far as problems went, it could have been anything to him. She hadn't alluded that they were at war with the pesky birds. And maybe, if he joined, he could help them? They did need more lions to help fight after all.

"Vul...tures...?" He tilted his head. He'd never seen the beasts, and he seemed confused-- breifly.

"Are they terribly nasty?"

It took the concern off of him, atleast. Or so he hoped.

Dimu nodded her head. "Yes, they are large birds that like to prey on our young and have taken a few as slaves... they scavenge and have attacked alot of us who stray too far from our oasis." She said sadly. She was worried about her young wandering too far from the oasis and getting harmed. Especially Taab, who would be foolish enough to test his luck. Her boys were so careless and carefree sometimes.
It had to be her fault though. She had been so carefree in her youth. She wished they had taken more after their reserved and calm father. The only one who seemed more like the vain cheetah, was the second eldest, Najub. He only cared about how nice his fur looked. It was almost adorable. Almost.

...Slavery. Sairin's eyes narrowed at the phrase, and he moved, sittig next to the white-green lioness, putting one paw on hers in a gesture of holding it.

"I would be glad to help you and your people. Slavery..." The male rumbled. "...I cannot abide."

Dimu looked up at Sairin as he moved to touch her paw with his own. She nodded as he reapeated her word, slavery. The white lioness smiled. This large male was a hero after all. He would be her hero if nothing else. She looked forward to him entering the pride and meeting the others. She knew he could help get rid of the vultures, or atleast get them under control.

"I can take you there now, and then in the morning we can find Muroki or Kainda to have you formally told about the situation." Dimu said with a smile. "It seems the stars led me out tonight to find you to help the pride.." It was her luck that was working here. Dimu had had avergae, even bad luck, until recently when her boys were born then it became better, and this seemed to be the best spot of luck yet. Not only had this hero saved her, but he was willing to help the pride she loved so.
