Elphie pawed the ground, once again lost in thoughts of Fiyero and what had happened since leaving Oz. It seemed to her, now, that leaving Oz may not have been the best idea. At least they would not have lost each other so completely.
*Elsewhere*
"Okay, so, the first thing she would do . . . well, she'd find some Animal to save," Fiyero said to himself, thinking out loud. Looking around, he remembered the problem. All around them were talking Animals. None of whom appeared to need saving. "Crap," he muttered.

Sunchaser strode about the field, enjoying the sun and the light breeze.

"Elphaba?" Seraphina tilted her head regarding the silhouetted form of the witch in the morning's early hours. She looks so sad... the pony thought. "Hey, Elp?" she called with concern. "Are you alright?"

"Oh, I'm . . . I'm all right, I guess. Just thinking too much again." He is here, isn't he? I mean, we left together. That much I remember.

"Oh yeah?" Seraphina trotted towards the witch. "I've had that problem before. Gotta be careful, it'll drive you crazy." She sat down beside the green pony, "So...what are you thinking about? That is if you don't mind my prying?"

"Fiyero. He should have found me by now. Or I should have found him . . . " Elphie started. "The longer I go without knowing whether or not he's here, the more I think that maybe he'll never find me again." Elphie sighed heavily.

"Woah, woah, back up a little," Seraphina shifted to better listen to the pony. "Who's Fiyero?"

"Fiyero is the love of my life. We left Oz together, and that's all I remember," Elphie sniffled. "Damn that stings," she muttered under her breath as a tear ran down her cheek.

"Oh..." Seraphina said softly. That would explain why she was so worried about the guy. "Ok, slow down Elphie and let's think. You said you left together, and you ended up here...what's your first memory after that? Where were you in the valleys?"

Sunchaser strode over to the two talking ponies. "I remember you, Miss Elphaba, wasn't it? Worried about some wizard taking over the valleys? It is a pleasure to run into you again. Allow me to introduce one of my herdmates, Chronos."
Chronos bowed slightly. "Greetings."

"Hello," Elphie said, backing away slightly from the formal greeting. He reminded her of someone - and it was very unsettling. "Wasn't Cronos a king of the gods who was dethroned by his son? You're not - king of anything, are you?"

Chronos shook his head slightly. "I guard the gates of time, protecting it from those who would seek to change the way things are. I am king of nothing." He stood as still as a statue, not on purpose, but because years of duty had demanded he do so.

"Oh-okay." Elphie narrowed her eyes at him. "So you do not like change? What about change for the better? Change that needs to happen for a better world? Changing to stop the oppression of countless citizens?"

Chronos raised an eyebrow. "I seek to stop those who would alter the natural course of time. If you sought to go back in time to make a change, I would stop you. Altering what was before changes what will be. There are infinite possibilities for the future, which are twisted when the past is changed. Change in the present is natural." Chronos looked tired, slightly slouching, as he spoke.
Sunchaser stepped between Elphaba and Chronos, changing the topic as he did. "Did you ever find who you were looking for, Miss Elphaba?"

Elphie looked from Cronos to Sunchaser. She gave one last "I'm watching you" kind of look to Cronos and answered Sunchaser's question. "No, actually, I have not found him yet. You have not seen him, have you? A scarecrow pony?"
