I think it depends on the band.... I've been in two bands, one where color guard was ignored another where we where treated as part of the band.

I am so SICK OF THIS! YES the guard is part of the band! We may not play an instrument, but we put in the same amount of time [actually just a tad more], we work just as hard, we have the same rules, we get punished with the band, w are part of the band! Our guard is frequently pushed aside and I'm sick of it. We're not even a sucky guard! 19.5 in the rainsnowwindtwentysome degrees and whatnot does not constitute suckage! We are equal parts of the big picture, we deserve to be treated as such.

We're pretty much considered part of the marching band. I was a marching flute freshman year, as was my friend. We are now both on colorguard (our BD favors former band members during tryouts).

Most of the guard has dated random percussion members, too. I have TONS of friends in the band, and so does the rest of the squad.

So they, at least, still consider us members.

why of course ^^ the color guard adds pizaz and flare to the marching band!

Sure! Without guard, it'd be a bunch of guys and girls with instruments just walking around in circles. How boring, huh? D;

During marching season everyone says that we are part of the band and we should act as such. But when winter comes around not only are we not a part of the band but the boosters feel it is appropriate to take away $5,000 from our budget that we were going to go to nationals with. so... only when it's convienient (sp?)

of course! but then, in my skool only the band teacher and those of us acutally in guard think that...lol crying

i hear yah!! thats right garud does alot for a band and all garuds deserve to be treated with respect. without us a band would have no visual aid and only the judges would watch the band the auidence would just sit there and listen to the music. so we all need to berespected or we can use our flags as weapons.

It's unfortunate that a lot of color guards get ignored. They're just as much a part of the band as the flutes and clarinets are.

Then again, I experience the same sort of stuff in pit all the time =/

I'm on CG, and I love Marching Band. It irritates me when some bands think that they could do well w/o a guard. Honestly, I've seen a few bands where their Guard was more interesting/better than they were! Not only do we add visual effects, but we work just as hard. We use about five different pieces of equipment that we have to set up before every runthrough, so don't get mad at us if it takes us longer than two seconds to get back to set one. You should also try tossing a double on flag or a quad on rifle when harsh winds pick up razz

Other than that, I wish we deserved more respect on our band. Other than that, I still love band biggrin besides, all of my friends are consisted of clarinets and piccolos anyway smile

We're definitely a part of the band at my school. It is kind of sad that the colorguard is treated as though they are not. We march with the band, practice with the band, perform with the band, and hang out with the band. Some of my best friends are in both winterguard and marching band. Colorguard is at the same, if not higher, level of difficulty as the band, I think. It is stupid for people to think that we contribute nothing.

Totally.

In our band, it's better if our director doesn't talk to you a lot.
The more he talks at you in band camp, the more you've done wrong. -_-

There was only one day he did that to the colorguard, when they almost smacked the solo trumpet and he didn't realize until we stopped the drill so he could correct them. XD
