Click to show.Dawn's light was just spreading its rays across the area, thin beams of sunlight leaking in between the gnarled branches of this particular forest. Leaves quivered on their stems as a soft breeze wound through the trunks of trees, a soft rustling sound starting in its wake. Blind eyes open, Azren paused his stride, ears flicking in attempt to hear another nearby; something to chase, to toy with... or perhaps someone worth conversing with? Tail flicking, he lifted a massive paw, continuing his slow, leisurely pace around roots and trees.

"How boring..." he growled quietly, more to himself than anyone else, "It is already morning and there's not a single angelic hiding out in here..." He huffed, quite frustrated, and stopped at a trickling stream that had crossed his path. Leaning down to it, his serpentine tongue gently flicked the water before his maw touched it, taking several gulps of the cool liquid. Might as well take a break from stalking, seeing as there was nothing to stalk...

Tamri was hunting for something out here in the woods, also; but not in the manner that Azren was. "Brother? Ssstop leaving me behind, you sssilly goossse..." But he was gone... she'd lost his trail. She could find her own way back, at least, but she'd wanted to spend some time with him. Silly Gwri.

Tamri sat then, ears flicking here and there to the sounds of the forest. She liked it better when she was around her family... or... anyone, than when she was alone. At least... anyone that wasn't going to do something stupid like try to eat her. But at least being alone didn't leave her with that frightened, disoriented feeling she got when she was young.

She stood again to head toward the sound of running water, calling idly but not with much expectation for Gwri again. "Brotherrrrr~"

Having drank his fill, Azren lifted his dark head from the surface of the stream. He thought he had heard something, but the sound of water was still there, mindlessly babbling in his ears...

And again. Swiveling his ear a bit, he listened to the call of another not too far off from him. Brother? It sounded like someone was lost, wandering about on their own. Tongue flicking the air, he caught the scent of nightmare, much to his surprise. Turning his body, he sauntered in the general direction of the voice, listening intently as they called once more. It was worth it, at least, to introduce himself...

"Are you lost?" he called, voice low and calm, "Or merely looking for your sibling? I couldn't help but hear you..." He could smell them quite well now, so they were close- his tongue licked the air once more just to confirm that they were still nearby.

Tamri paused and swiftly turned to face the voice, head swiveling back and forth as she flicked her tongue to try and ascertain the stranger's position. She was startled after a moment, however; it was another Nightmare. She had encountered some few souls when she was young; she didn't really remember them. But it had been a very few indeed, and even though most of them had been Nightmares, somehow it seemed strange and foreign to encounter one now, on her own, out here in the middle of nowhere.

"I am not lossst. I can find my way back, and I imagine one mussst have a placsse that they exsspect to be to become lossst in the firssst placsse." She tilted her head, flicking her tails with the energy of nervous curiosity. She'd never done much interacting with anyone aside from her family... "I wasss ssseeking my brother, Gwri. I followed him out here, but I do not think he realized becaussse he ssseemsss to have disssappeared on me." She clicked her beak for a moment of indecision. "I do not sssuppossse you have encountered anyone elssse?"

Azren listened intently to the other; a broad grin spread across his face. This one seemed to be worth talking to, at the very least. He nodded as she spoke, though it mattered little when one couldn't see. "Your brother? I have not come across another besides yourself on this day," he replied simply, "If you would like, I will help you look for him." He didn't have anything else to do, no agenda or whatnot. Besides, other Nightmares were almost always worthwhile conversation holders.

It had been a few days since he had encountered another; his beak clacked a few times, his tail making a slightly excited twitch. He had been tired of merely letting out growls and warnings- someone that was worth his time to talk to was always welcome.

His tongue gently flicked out once more, searching for any other scents- but, just as the female had said, her brother was not nearby. "Before I forget," he added, almost as an afterthought, "I am Azren. I am sure you would think it rude, should I offer my help and not even give you my name, afterall."

Tamri was still but a young adult, and not yet used to traveling on her own, so the thought of company was quite tempting. And he certainly seemed pleasant enough; she knew her mother must have her reasons for being such a solitary creature aside from their family and the few friends she had laid claim to, but Tamri herself had not really experienced much that positive or negative either way to dictate her decision for her. This was an entirely new experience for her... so why not?

"I think sssome company would be mossst apprecssiated. And hopefully more productive." She canted her head in a sort of bow, one she had adopted for greeting her mother's sighted friends when they visited and was now a habit. "I am Tamri. My brother isss Gwri."

What a charming one, Azren mused to himself; she wasn't rude and snotty like some other Nightmares he had encountered before. "Indeed," he said, lifting his large paws to step easily over the stream before him, "Two heads are better than one, after all." His tails curled around his side as he stopped moving, sightless eyes blinking once or twice. His ear flicked as she spoke once more. Tamri? Such a nice name.

"Do you know... what direction he went?" he inquired, cranium turning in a random direction, "That... would help our search." Something to do that involved more than hunting for angelics that flew high above his head? His pulse picked up a bit merely thinking about such a thing.

Tamri was honestly a calm and gentle soul. It was really not in her nature to be rude, and aside from that she had not been brought up drowning in stories about how superior the Nightmare Kitsusagi were to everything else and how hateful any other sort of Kitsusagi was because of the ancient "betrayal". Though she had not developed her parents' fearful shyness, either. Tamri simply... was.

"Where he went?" Tamri quested around with her head, sifting through the signals her internal sense of direction was giving her along with her memory of which way she had turned and for how long. After a moment she padded carefully around Azren and then thumped her paw on the ground to indicate the direction. "He wasss headed thisss way when I followed him in here. Though I can not sssay if thisss isss the direction he ssstill goesss. But it is better than having no idea where to look."

Azren's ears swiveled after her as she moved, listening to her voice as she spoke. His paws felt the soft vibration on the ground as she walked, eyes closing slowly for a moment. It didn't make a difference, anyways- all he saw was blackness just the same. Doing so only reminded him of why he disliked other races- the only bit of his childhood he remembered was being teased for being different. It was that which made him bitter to all but his kind- they couldn't see each other, they couldn't make fun of each other for their appearances. Such simple logic, indeed.

"It is indeed better than nothing," he replied, turning his body and padding forward to stand alongside her, "We may, at the least, find a trail to follow if we go this direction, am I correct?"
PostPosted: Fri Feb 29, 2008 9:51 am

Had Tamri been able to see, there would have been no teasing. Not anything serious, at least; maybe a bit of good natured poking and only if the other was ok with it. She simply wasn't the sort for it.

She bobbed her head at his question before moving on. "We ssshould. Unlesss he'sss turned around and headed home while I've been out here bumbling around in hopesss of finding him. If we fail to find him I sssuppossse that isss where I ssshall have to go."

After some few minutes of walking, as yet without success, curiosity visited upon Tamri and she bumped Azren gently. "Do you have any family out here?" Her family was acquainted with another... rather vaguely. But from what she'd gathered there were very few Nightmaren out here who had settled down. Perhaps very few Nightmaren who settled down at all other than for the sake of continuing the species. As big and strong as they were, somehow that thought made her race seem frail in a very real way.

"Your brother... sounds like quite the guy." he stated, jaw cracking a light smile. He clacked his beak a bit, ears swiveling about him to listen to the sounds of the forest- birds that scattered as the sounds of heavy paws on dead leaves reached them, insects buzzing incessantly about them as they walked. His tongue absently flicked through the air, catching the scent of that nearby stream, but nothing that was even close to another of their kin. His ear swiveled to the side as he shifted against Tamri's weight, listening to her inquiry.

Family? "I... do not quite know. Perhaps I do, but... I do not remember them." His head cocked to the side, horns bumping gently against hers. "I would imagine that... they must have lived somewhere in... this area, though. Where they are now I... do not know." It was true, in all honesty, that he didn't remember his childhood days- it didn't bother him, though. Somehow he knew that wherever the rest of his family was, they had a good reason for being there.

Tamri chuckled. "Gwri isss not ssso bad, really. Probably he heard me calling and turned around to look for me while I continued on looking for him. You would think we would have found eachother. Alasss." She flicked her tails. "But I would rather be sssure. And in any cassse, it ssseemsss thisss trip wasssn't a total wassste. It isss nicssse to meet another Nightmare that isss actually pleasssant. Assside from the one other family that mine is acquainted with and my own I have met few that did not try to do sssomething to me sssimply for being there. I do not approve of the predjudicsse that many have againssst our racsse but thossse individualsss cssertainly make me wonder how often thossse predjudicssesss are valid." A displeased and angry snort followed that, both at the individuals of the other races that saw only with their eyes and at the Nightmaren that chose to see nothing at all but their own anger and selfishness. Then she sighed. "I do apologizsse. I did not mean to rant. I sssimply... don't underssstand people sssometimesss."

Tamri listened to his answer to her question intently and made a contemplative little sound. "That isss too bad. Though not uncommon, it would ssseem. I know nothing of my father'sss family, and my mother... well ssshe doesssn't even remember where ssshe came from, much lesss if ssshe hasss any other family. Sssomehow ssshe remembered her name, but all elssse wasss lossst to her. But there ssseem to be many who do not know, do not remember, or will not ssspeak of their passstsss among our kind... it ssseemsss sssad to me."

Azren laughed softly. "Yes, it is likely that you must have... just missed him, then." he replied simply, ears swiveling to listen to her once more. His head bobbed in agreement as she spoke, his lips pulling back from his jaw in a light smile. Even traveling for this short while with Tamri, he had decided that she was quite the kitsu- she had just voiced some of his own opinions amongst hers. While he disliked most other races, it was from his own experience, not just stereotypes and unjustified anger. "It is... alright. We all need to... vent every now and... then."

He clacked his jaw quietly for a moment, listening once more to her words. "Indeed it is... too bad," he said, "There are many that do... not remember. "At least we have our... names to keep, however." His tails flicked a bit around him for a moment. "Those who know their history and... choose not to divulge it are selfish, I think. They are afraid of... being called weak." He shook his head, blind eyes closing as he did so. "It is a shame that our kin are so... infatuated with strength and... power."
PostPosted: Tue Sep 22, 2009 1:23 pm

"It takesss a far deeper ssseated and lasssting ssstrength to facsse onesss own weaknesssesss... bodiesss grow old and weak whether we want them to or not. A ssstrong will fadesss only when we let it." She snorted softly. "Thossse who ssseek power never ssseem to realizsse that." She shrugged. "Persssonally I'm quite happy jussst being me. I don't sssee why I ssshould go out of my way to impresss a bunch of lumbering jack-asssesss who I didn't like and who didn't like me in the firssst placsse."

Tamri flicked her tongue, catching the taste of a strange scent on the air. It wasn't Gwri... but she sincerely wondered it was, now. She'd never encountered anything like it before... sort of like a Nightmaren but something about it was strange. Her brow furrowed and she clacked her beak, speeding up ever so slightly. "What isss that ssstrange tassste in the air? Do you know?"

Azren nodded in agreement. It was a change, speaking to her. Although he agreed with her, he still resented many of the other races that wandered the lands. Listening to the sound of their paws padding across the ground, his head bobbed slightly in rhythm. For once he felt oddly at peace...

He paused alongside her, tongue flicking into the air and catching whiff of what he realized was indeed a strange scent. Blind eyes blinked once or twice, ears swiveling to the front to listen.

"I do not," he replied, lifting a paw as if to push forward, "Shall we... investigate?"
