Vara walked briskly in the late morning glow. She wanted to get back to her baskets and Scythe before nightfall and would probably need all the time she had to look around. Hopefully, Haya would still be around the same general area as he seemed to enjoy the last time she had seen him. It wasn't desperate that she saw him today, of course, she just thought that he deserved to know that he had half siblings waiting in their baskets.

There was that, and she hadn't seen him in a while. She kept reminding herself that he was a grown stallion and didn't need her worrying about him but old habits were hard to break. He was probably just fine. He had always been very independent.

Haya flung leaves aside with his long spaded tail, looking for any small flowers that might have started poking up in the bout of warmth. It'd be nice to find something to bring Ayanna. She always seemed to appreciate it when he found something for her and keeping her happy was never a waste of time. Since the baskets had come at least she didn't have to deal with the stress of being pregnant but now there was endless looking after and tending to. Soon, though, there'd be foals. That'd make everything worth it.

"Nope, nothing here," he muttered to himself before flinging up another volume of leaves... into the face of a very familiar mare that had just emerged from the bushes.

"Mom?!"

Vara shook the leaves from her face with a sound that was caught between a chuckle and a sigh. That was Haya all right. The leaves fell away to reveal his face, pleased surprise lighting up gray eyes. She felt the warmth echoed in hers and gave him a smile and a fond nuzzle. It had been a while since she had seen her son and it was a relief to see him doing so well... even if there were old scars etched into his golden fur...

She pushed that thought from her mind for the meantime and focused on greeting her son. "Haya. It's nice to see you again, dear. How have you been?" She'd break the news of his incoming half-siblings once they had caught up a little first.

Haya had been well ready to be away from his mother and enjoy his adulthood but now that there had been some time he felt happy to see her again. He couldn't help but notice her examining his scars. That would make for an awkward discussion. He got into a fight with a kalona because he wanted to prove that not all kalonas fought. That... hadn't worked out as planned.

He wasn't sure how to answer her question, either. He had been a little busy because of preparing for the appearance of his three foals. He knew she'd be thrilled for him... but how was one supposed to tell their mother about something like this?

"Uh... I've been fine..." he mumbled while considering his options.

"That's nice." She couldn't help but be a little amused. He had the same expression on his face as he had worn as a foal when he wanted to hide something. He always tried so hard but had never managed to become a good liar. She wondered if maybe he had a mare somewhere that he didn't want her to know about.

"I thought I'd stop by for a little visit. Do you have time?"

"Yeeeeeeees," he drew out the word a little to buy himself one last bit of time. He was going to tell her. This was it! He lifted his head and did his best impression of nonchalant pride. "There's someone that you ought to meet if you're going to be in the area, though."

He took a deep breath. Now or never. "She's... well... we have baskets." He ended it shortly and simply but could tell by the look on his mother's face that she understood. Now, would come the joy and congratulations. Hopefully she wouldn't go overboard...

Oh, that was nice. He did have a mare. He-

Vara blinked. Did he just... he did. He just... She stared for a moment and when the realization struck she suddenly burst into joyful laughter. "Oh Haya... Haya..." She struggled to get enough air to speak between the laughing. Oh, what a wonderful scenario that fate had dealt both of them!

"Imagine that, Haya." She blinked tears of mirth from her eyes. "You'll become a father at the same time as you become a brother."

"Oh yeah?" retorted Haya with one of his usual impish grins. "Well you'll become a grandmother at the same time as you become a..." He blinked. "Wait, you're already... But there was only me and..." His gray eyes widened so far that they seemed to bug out of his skull.

"WHAAAAAAT? You mean... you have more foals coming too? Now? When?" He gaped at her flat belly while his tail lashed excitedly behind him. "You should have told me! They aren't out already, are they?" Even though he knew that had to be what she was implying his mind just couldn't quite grasp it. His mother was having more children. This time the father... wait... he didn't even know who the father was!

Haya's over the top reaction threatened to choke Vara with laughter again but she managed to compose herself enough to restore her ability to speak. The questions running through his mind were too obvious for her to mistake the meaning. "There are three baskets right now." She gulped back another giggle before continuing.

"Their father is a very nice soquili and... my mate." She knew that this would probably be important to Haya. He had always longed for a father of his own and would probably be glad to know these ones would have one.

Haya did indeed like knowing that his half siblings would have a father, but for now... shock was still his major emotion. Three! She had three baskets! He had three baskets too! How was it that they both had three right now? He had thought that most breedings had maybe two baskets and only three if they were very very lucky... which apparently his family now was.

"Wow... I mean... wow!" He had been so excited about his foals but now there were twice as many to be excited about. "I have three too, Mom!"

Three? Both of them were blessed with three beautiful baskets? Vara stopped laughing and started beaming with joy. "What a truly auspicious occurrence. I do believe we have been given the gift of this extraordinary fortune for a reason." She was a strong believer in fate and had to believe that this couldn't possibly be random chance. Chance couldn't explain something like this.

"Children, grandchildren, and siblings. We couldn't be more blessed."

Haya quietly thought that maybe his mom was reading too much into things but didn't let that dull his enthusiasm. Baskets! So many baskets! He started to say something then stopped and started again only to do the same thing. There were so many things he could say, wanted to say. What could he say at a time like this?

He remembered what he had told his friend Vis and a soft smirk came across his face. "I bet mine will be faster."

Vara wouldn't have believed her ears if it hadn't been such a typical Haya boast. Typical. Utterly typical. Even on the brink of the most important thing that had ever happened to him all he could think about was whose children would be faster.

"Some times I think you'll never grow up," she chuckled with a friendly nudge. "If you want to think that your children will be faster then go ahead. I would love any foal even if they were the slowest soquili to ever put four hooves on the ground."

Haya's ears drooped with unsurprised disappointment. He had never been able to really rile his mother up. She was so calm about everything... so accepting. He wished she'd get feisty once in a while. That'd be fun to see. Maybe some of her foals would be feisty. What then? Though she had managed just fine with him...

"There's nothing wrong with hoping they'll be fast," he grumbled disgruntledly. "And I don't think they'd like you calling them slow."

If Haya thought that he could get her in a huff about how fast or slow her children would be he was greatly mistaken. Vara was in far too good a mood for that. She had found her son and discovered she was going to be a grandmother. That was hardly an every day occurrence.

She smile when looking him over. He would make an excellent father. She was sure of it. The big question in her mind was... "So, why don't you tell me about this mare that apparently you've met?"
