Every year the band does a fund raiser to to get money to better itself. The BD's tell us the money goes to buying instruments, trips, or hiring professionals to teach a certain section. They even offer us students lots of.....strange...prizes.But do you actually waste your weekends and precious after school hours to go out and bug people to buy your fund raiser goods?

If too few people in your band do the fundraisers, you could end up like my alma mater. To be allowed to participate in band, you had to sign a form promising to raise or pay several hundred dollars. If you didn't, you couldn't go on the band trip at the end of the year. It's far better if you just do a few fundraisers voluntarily. Once it's official, they can keep raising the price and that just sucks.

Our school does those types of fundraisers, but ones for band are fun! Like pizza friday, every other week one of the school organization sells a ticket for a slice of pizza and a soda for $2. Band usually gets this 2-3 throughout the year. And then our annual spaggetti dinner we just had, they sell tickets for $6 and you get a spaggetti dinner. And then the threee bands play music (beginning, jazz, advanced). So its actually fun fundraising for band!

i normally try to, but the problem is that they give every music group the same fundraiser, so you go up to someone and they're like "i already bought from a chorus kid." like wth, give us different fundraisers! there's: concert chorus concert band marching band [and outdoor guard] indoor colorguard urbane show choir
it sucks. :[
but sometimes i just forget.

Same here, Leandra. The whole music department does it, though I kind of like the fundraiser, 'cause the stuff we sell is really yummy and we get money that we can use on any band trip up until the end of High School.

I try to do the fundraisers, but I ususally end up just selling to my relatives that live closeby.
My band is going to Six Flags this year for a competition, so each band and chorus kid (I'm in both) has to raise 70-80 dollars to cover costs of busses and admission.
We sold cookie dough for our fundraiser, which was good because everyone heart s cookie dough! We also sold really expensive Silpada jewlery, which was okay because we made a lot of money off that one...
But, I don't see why we can't just pay for stuff instead of having to fundraise by buying stuff we don't really want.

We go on a huge trip every other year, usually to perform in either Macy's, the Rose Parade, some prestigious concert hall, or overseas in some festival or whatever. For Instance, this coming season we're going to Ireland during St. Patrick's Day to perform in two parades and do a concert in St. Patrick's Cathedral. So, we have to do a crapload of fundraising. I raise anywhere from 450 to 750 dollars each fund raiser, there are three each year plus the Car-Wash-A-Thon. We don't get prizes, we just don't get to go to competitions or trips if we don't raise enough =. But most of the time, if you meet a certain goal, you get to skip band on a certain day to eat endless pizza, drink soft drinks, and play Guitar Hero, Rock Band, or DDR in the Percussion Room.

I usually do band fundraisers...if I'm free that day...but a lot of our fundraisers have requirement things...like you are required to go to at least 3 or something, depending on what kind of fundraiser it is...

Nick Rail Music and Musician's Outlet had booths where they sold band stuff, we had so many things like raffles for an Xbox 360, and 3 guitars. It was the best fundraiser EVER!!! Only my school hosted it so all of the kids in the band had to work in a booth for 2hours. the Carnival was from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. It was awesome.
