With Ryega still missing, and everything happening so quickly, the aging male was losing sight of what's happening. Where was his mate? Where was his son, Tahu? Where was Agizo... Kianjahe? Where was everyone? He found himself sitting by himself in the middle of... well, nowhere. All he knew was that he was still in the Mpinzani territory, the forest part of it anyways. The ground was still moist and the ear was still rich of relatively clean air. The trees saw to that and the waterfall made the air sort of... cool. He knew where he was... but where was everyone else?
Temari, his love, his soul mate, where was she? She was with him from the beginning of this pack and it seems now that he looks beside him, she is not there looking back. Is she still at the den?
Where are the pups-no, the offsprings? Agizo and Kianjahe should be out on their own by now, but would they not give their farewell to the father who sired them? To let him know that they are off on their own? Perhaps to start a family or a pack of their own?
And what of Ryega? . . . that poor pup and he the father deprived to watch his oldest blood son grow.
Lost in his own mind set, he needed a little guidance, another dog to talk to. Not Temari, no, he needed another male. Where was Dhati when he needed someone? Desperate, he let out a howl.

For Kadogo, life went on. Since adolescence nothing had been simple in the Mpinzani lands and he was used to it. If things were a little stormy, he knew to roll with the waves and avoid the rain. What mattered most to him was his family and keeping the pack safe from outside threats, no matter how it was inside the pack. He was devoted to it and patrolled the borders often.
But even the most devoted patrolled needed to rest and eat sometimes like this afternoon. After stopping by the den to play with the puppies and shower affection on his mate Mo'aoka, he'd caught some food. A dikdik, down in their jungle. It'd made a good meal with spare to take back to his family later. But he'd napped afterwards rather than go straight back - until he was awakened by a howl.
Kaddy folloed the sound, only stopping momentarily to howl a wordless reply. If it had words, it would have said something like this: I'm coming. I know that howl - Jamaa? - it's Kadogo. I'm coming.

"K....Kadogo," a slight weight was pulled off of him, a cloud alleviated from his mind. It was the son of Dhati, another canine to this humble, warm pack. It had been quite a while since he got any alone time with this male and what more was that he too was a father, a young one at that. He would have a great this going for him if he was able to hold things together.
Jamaa gave another reply; I am here. It's Jamaa. I want to talk.
The muddy brown male raised to his paws, stretching. He was large in stature and it made him fit to be a guard. Even as old as he is, he had plenty of life left in him. He was as old as Dhati at this point. Even his children would be the same age as Kadogo.
At least he could just talk and hopefully... clear his mind.

It wasn't long until Kadogo could make out Jamaa's scent trail amongst the damp-earth and plant smells of the jungle, so he had more to follow than just a sound. Nose to the ground, he trailed it a while then walked the last bit upright until he came across the elder brown dog. His fellow patrol guard.
"Jamaa. Is everything alright?" Well, as alright as they ever were.
The smaller adult came to sit by him. He was as old as his father an Kaddy respected him as much as he respected anyone.

Jamaa dropped his head a little and looked over at him.
"Things have plagued Jamaa's mind. Jamaa's family seems... distant and at the same time, still close to Jamaa,"
This dialect, this way of talking was how Jamaa was first before he met Temari. He had always spoken like this when he was distressed, depressed, or utterly lost as he is now. It was Temari who taught him how to speak properly. It was Topas, his ratel friend, who had discplined him to speak correctly but he had other things to take care of now it seemed. So it was just he and Temari.
"Does Kadogo wish to hear, Jamaa's problems or would you rather we exchange problem with another and seek out solutions for one another. Jamaa does not want to be selfish, surely a fellow father has problems and thoughts he does not wish to speak openly toward his family."

"Whichever you'd rather. I haven't too many problems. I'm tough."
He turned his head slightly, ers up. He was surprised he'd be one to talk to. He still felt very young though also very adult. But compared to Jamaa or Dhati, the young bit was what stood out. He'd only been a father for a short while. The dog by him had been a father for a long time.
"You can tell me whatever you'd want."

"We all know Ryega, my own son, of my blood, had gone missing for a long time now. I had promised my mate that I would never allow her to feel the pain of losing a child again after what had happened with Kizaki, our only daughter. Though I may not be the father of her previous litter, I still consider them my own. They are all growing up and heading out on their own, it's a day every parent has to face and one long dreaded to watch them leave you, unsure if they will ever come back again. But with Ryega... I didn't get to see that day he left. I never got to see him grow. I don't even know where he is now or if he is even alive,"
Jamaa paused and took a deep breath before raising his head. A stance that a guard dog would pose to make himself look more alert, proud, defensive, and strong.
"But I will find him, I know I will. I just... need a little more time."
With a slight exhale, he looked over at him, Kadogo.
"You are still young, but you may face this, but I do hope you do not... it seems like my family is slowly disappearing from me and that would mean I would only have Temari. I love her, I really do, but after what happened last time... I fear another litter may kill her and inevitably killing me. Is it self for me to want my family together?"

"I remember when your daughter went missing. I followed you almost all the way to the Pridelands, saw you and that jackal...furthest I've ever been from home. Trying to find Kizaki for you and Temari."
It was true. When he was only a puppy, he'd gone so far away from the lands for that reason. Helping the other family be whole had seemed like a worth goal, something everyone would be proud of him for and it would have caused so much happiness. But he never had found her for Jamaa and his mate.
"It's not selfish to wish you had all your family about you. I wish all my brothers, and my sister, and my mother was here. With no strife."

The older male chuckled to himself, a smile upon his maw.
"It seems you and I see the same view. We want our families together. In essence, our pack... The Mpinzani, your father's legacy and pride, is a family. One that brings all of ours together. Don't get me wrong or anything, but I would love to have at least some of my offspring here with me and my mate,"
He smiled softly and looked up into the sky. Tahu was around, right? Agizo and Kianjahe too? At least, that is half of the little ones. Kizaki and Demani were together, so they were safe. . . . Kizaki, the sweet girl, she took after him it seemed. He wished she would come visit or something. And then there is Ryega.
"Kadogo... would you aid me in my search for my son?" Jamaa paused. "Perhaps on patrol and you see a red dot... you would inform me wouldn't you?"

"Of course."
He understood the elder dog well and could only affirm what he said, and nodded as he discribed the pack. Well, what the pack should be like. One big family, made of smaller families. in harmony. If he wasn't who he was now, if he was still alone and unhappy, he'd have laughed bitterly. As it was he only sighed. Thank goodness he had Mo and the pups now.
"Every long patrol, in the days after the moon changes, when I go further afield - I have been looking for your son. I swear. Ever since I heard Ryega was missing."

Jamaa smiled and licked his head, standing to his feet to his full height. He appreciated the fact that he had at least one member of this pack to turn to when he needed to talk to someone. Someone similar to himself in ways to feel comfortable. To know that Kadogo had been seeking his son as well, it was a bit of a relief that Ryega, the blind member of their pack, was not forgotten.
"What about your pups, Kadogo? What about them? Has anything interesting happen that is worth talking about? This conversation needs a change of direction."

"Still early days. I could gush over every step they've taken, my eldest boy's howl, how my girls curl together when they sleep, how my white son reminds me of my brother.. how they all remind me of someone." He chattered, then realised something.
"But I'm their father and only me and Mo'd care about the really little things, you know?"

Jamaa laughed and shook his head.
"Trust me, if you allowed another adult or anyone for that matter, to get close to them, they would do the very same. It still strikes me as a surprise where Ryega's colors came from. But I love them all never the less, especially when he walked out alone... I was so proud of him then, but my overprotectiveness won over and yelled at him," Jamaa laughed. "I should apologize for the things I did back then when I see him again..."
With a deep breath, he looked back at him with a bigger smile, lifted spirits and energy.
"Take me to your den, I would like to get a glimpse of these little pups of our family."

"You can come see them, if you'd like, but not too close. In a few days if the packs stable enough we'll be showing them to everyone and after that you can actually meet them." Kaddy said, a formality. The older dog would know how it worked anway.
He got to his paws again an gestured for Jamaa to follow. He'd take him to a place that overlooked his families den - and the whole border. He liked to sit up there a lot. From there the two males could watch the pups play below.

Jamaa followed dutifully. Kadogo was the son of Dhati, the previous alpha of their pack before his daughter took up. A coup, and a Tahu had remained control until things crumbled. It seemed their pack was rather unstable... at least for the time. Not many were fit for the role of leaders, clearly he may not be as an emotionally unstable canine at times. However, if it were Kadogo, he would followed dutifully and loyal as he would any Alpha who treated him right.
Jamaa sat down beside him and looked over the pack, a place where a guard was most useful . . . Where they can see the entire pack and its glory. The forest. The waterfall. The mountains.

And the life.
