Personally, even though I haven't been a member of Gaia for as long as most of the people I know, I think MTV's taking their ads on this site just a little too far. It has it's own store, for crying out loud! And, no, it can't just be at the end of the list, it has to get the #2 spot, so you see it every time you go to the shops. This is just far too intrusive for my tastes. What's next? Fast food restaraunts in the Towns? ... Actually, that sounds kinda cool, but only if there were absolutely no name brand places. But anyways, that's not the point. The point is that they're taking things a little too far. Agree, dissagree?

I actually laughed when I found out about that store. That's probably because I have a cynical attitude toward life. Sure, the store was stretching it, but honestly, I wouldn't give a flying ********. Unfortunatly, corparations and that mumbo-jumbo are almost unavoidable these days. The best thing I do is ignore them and move on, no matter how intrusive they may be. Gaia isn't the only thing in life that can be your escape, but I will respect your attachment toward it.
I hate this whole argument going on, but what can you do ? I feel that the people shunning MTV and ridiculing them are no better than the MTV fans. Oh well, at least the store won't stay for long. From Lanzer's post, he did say something about removing that shop to somewhere where all future sponsered quests will go, or something like that.

Personally, I couldn't care less. I don't buy anything from the shops anyway, so I never take the time to notice...and I rarely bother to read the announcements, either.
I prefer obliviousness. (almost typed oblivion XP) As long as it doesn't stay for long I guess...
I wasn't even aware there was an argument about this...heh.

I could go on for hours, my dear. *waves a tiny little black sandwich flag*
But for now, let's just say that such advertising makes me feel sick. I can stand the little banner ads, but such promotion through which you can only get something if you do it frustrated me endlessly.
*sighs*

Yeah, somehow I kinda figured that the only opinions here would be either indifference or dislike (that's putting it mildly O.o). I wonder if there's anyone that really likes the fact it's there? I'm sure there are some MTV fans that are like, "Yay, I'm giving them money!" but I wonder if there is anyone who just likes it for what it is...?
And, just as a note, I didn't make either of the pictures.

There are probably some who like this, but they're shunned by mostly the whole community. I kinda feel sorry for them. They're being hated on for something they like dear. I know,I know, they're brain-dead mongers, but at least respect what they like. I really dislike anti-corporation-extremists, but they're everywhere these days. Next, people are going to suicide-bomb Wal-marts/McDonald's restaurants/the like... rolleyes

I agree that we should respect others likes and dislikes, and we should not hate on them just because they like something like MTV.
It's in the Declaration of Independence. . . or certainly in the Constitution that we're supposed to support equality, and that all men(and women) are created equal . . . and since we're supposed to do that, then that means respecting others likes and whatnot. That also goes in the "Freedom of speech" thing. "Freedom of choice."
Okay, I'm done. I hope I made sense.

I agree with that. But "you cannot have this item unless you watch this blatant advertising" is more than a little annoying - and a lot of people see it as gaia selling out.
I do sort of feel sorry for the people who like it. I think if they had made their towns thing a little bit more... interactive, or interesting, people would have been really into it. But it's just needless bother with 'MTV' slapped onto it at the moment.
It's the invasion of our own lives my more advertising that I feel people are getting angry at, and they see the people who like it as supporting it. Not necessarily true, but the thought is there.
Oh, and for the record... *points to her little flag* I really don't think blowing up corporations is gonna help, in the long run. Before you get the wrong idea.

Gah, I just hate arguments like this sometimes. They create hostility and make people choose sides. It isn't enough that I have to go through this s**t everyday...

I don't like MTV. I'm sure most other Gaians don't. Why would they make this affiliation?

I thought it was particularly odd... what they were actually promoting. I mean, most of the people on Gaia are between 11 and 15, right? Not most of us, but most people. And the show seemed to be aimed at people between 25 and 50, from what I saw of it. I mean, Bee Movie and those things I can understand, but this just seems odd.

Greedy bastards... I think it's a bit much to call them greedy. Those servers cost a lot,y'know, even with the income coming from the MC's and cash shop. Besides, the people who work here made this their job. I wouldn't think they just created it for fun(well, maybe partially)... Of course, it was a bad move on their part for getting a sponsorship that was obviously hated my almost the whole community, but if it keeps this site free, I'm willing to let it pass.
