For anyone who has been keeping up with the latest news, the Patriots Spygate fiasco is far from over. With congress breathing down Roger Goodell's neck after destroying the evidence of the tapings, as investigators are trying to get to the bottom as to just how much the Patriots illegally recorded from their opponents, which opponents did the spy on, and how much did it actually contribute to their sucsess.
One thing made clear was that Bill Belichick did indeed film the final walk through practice of the St. Louis Rams before Superbowl XXXVI, which the Patriots would eventually win 20-17.
Though Superbowl rings and the Lombardi Trophy can not be torn away from the Patriots, money can. Several of the Rams players who played for St. Louis that year are filing a $100 million dollar suit against the Patriots organization.
Belichick, when initially meeting with NFL commisioner Roger Goodell claims that the thought the type of recordings he made were actually legal. But before investigators had a chance to fully review the evidence, Goodell had the video tapes destroyed. When asked why Goodell claimed that he was mearly destroying the tapes so that other teams aren't tempted to take them for their own benefit.
So not only did Spygate come back with a vengence, but it doesn't look like it will be resolved anytime in the near future.

Wow. Nice story.
Have not heard of this one yet, but it will be interesting to see how this will play out. Guess we will have to wait and see, but if I were a Ram of that NFC Championship team in that year, I too would have been very upset.

Here's an update in the story.
Former Patriots Employee Matt Walsh, who was part of the video recording team, is willing to turn in video tapes he has made from the St. Louis Rams final walkthrough practice the day before Superbowl XXXVI. And in return for his cooperation, Walsh wants the NFL to grant him protection from lawsuits in return.
Matt Walsh's lawyer stated the following:
"The NFL's proposal is not full indemnification. It is highly conditional and still leaves Mr. Walsh vulnerable. I have asked the NFL to provide Mr. Walsh with the necessary legal protections so that he can come foward with the truth without fear of retaliation and litigation. To best serve the interest of the public and everyone involved, I am hopeful that the NFL will do so promptly."
The NFL is willing to consider this proposal, if indeed Walsh is completely truthful and cooperative.
Walsh was not initially interviewed with the original "Spygate" investigation involving the Patriots in their season opener against the Jets.

Omfg, Everyone needs to stfu about this whole spygate crap. Since then, the Patriots have played 19 games and won them all, but 1. They have won big (52-7 over the Washington Redskins) and they have won small (27-24 over the Baltimore Ravens). They have been lucky—such as on the winning drive against Baltimore, when New England was bailed out by, in order, an timeout called from the Baltimore sideline, its own illegal-procedure penalty, and an interference call in the end zone—and they have been good. And they have, on occasion, been both, such as the last Regular Season Saturday night game, when New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin picked the worst possible time to become possessed by the spirit of Herm Edwards, which apparently stalks the Meadowlands to this day. We all know what the Patriots did was wrong. But hey, what about all the other teams? Eagles Coach Andy Reid even said that every team cheats in some way. They lost a 1st round Pick, about Half-a-Million dollars. The Patriots have beaten bad teams, like Miami, and they have beaten good teams, like Dallas. They have beaten six teams that joined them in the NFL playoffs. In Tom Brady, they have the best quarterback who ever played the game. Its over.

I don't make these stories up, I just report it. And the bottom line is that Spygate is far from over.
True they received their punishment from the NFL after they were caught for the game against the Jets, but this story goes far beyond just that game. And even though Roger Goodell destroyed the original confescated videos they attained from the Patriots, if Walsh has the video evidence he claims to have, and they turn out to be legit, then your talking about the Patriots Dynasty for over the last 6 years loosing it's credibility. Regardless of their 18-1 record this season, and who they have beaten and by how much.
I will not deny that in some cases other teams have done questionable things which are border line cheating, and other coaches will do what they can to bend the rules without breaking them. But you can't accept that what Andy Reid said is the Gospel truth and that every team cheats. That is quite a bold claim, one that even Reid cannot fully prove. And regardless of how much merrit Reid's statement might have, it doesn't make it okay for teams to get away with it. Roger Goodell needs to find the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth on this matter. Cause if he just, "stfu about this whole spygate crap" and backs off like you suggest, that's not going to solve any problems, or make the right steps in preventing this from happening again down the line. And for those teams who have suffered because of this, especially the Rams from that Superbowl team that lost to the Patriots that year, They deserve to know the truth whether if the Patriots are guilty or innocent. All of that would be lost if we just dropped this whole thing right now.

The Patriots broke NFL rules, that were tied to legal rules, and were rightfully penalized. But that doesn't mean that it should just be over with. The answer to the problem needs to be rooted and addressed clearly, so that no other team can replicate the scandal and compete in a fair contest. Yes, the Patriots have been the most dominant NFL team of this closing decade, and I doubt that the taping had anything to do with that. But we need to get to the bottom of this, because lying and cheating are wrong. I mean...if you lost the Super Bowl to a team that taped your walkthrough, you lose a once in a lifetime opportunity for glory. I would be very angry...

Well, Peyton can't help he does'nt have a stacked team. He can't help the Colts are always plagued by injury. If I may add, Superbowls help in developing a QB's legacy, but they don't make them. Peyton Manning as of last year can add how he was drafted by the worst team in the NFL at the time, and helped turned them into champions.
Tom Brady has a nice story too, the 6th round backup who got the chance and ran with it. But he was drafted by a much better Patriots team. His road to 3 superbowl championships was an easier one than Peyton Manning and his one under the circumstances. And though Brady broke some of Manning's records this previous season, Manning is still well ahead of Brady in breaking the records for most pass completions, most yards completed ever. Most TD passes ever. ect. ect. That and when it comes to audibles, reading the defense and adapting to them on the spot. No other QB in the league is better at it then Peyton Manning.
The Tom Brady/Peyton Manning debate will not be settled any time soon. And it is not ment to be resolved any time soon. We have two Quartebacks who still have many years left in their career, more great things to accomplish. We really can't say who the better Quarterback was until after they've both retired, where we can view and see everything they've accomplished. And even then the debates will go on for lord knows when. Also if Spygate turns out to be true, and the Patriots were indeed cheating at Superbowl XXXVI and others, that will really tear into Tom Brady's legacy.
Anyways, this topic is more on the focus of Spygate, not debating QB's So in an effort to get back on track. Last week Bill Belicheck went on record saying he never had anything to do with these alledged video tapes, and if they were recorded, he never watched them.
Personally I think this is a bold move for Belicheck. He shouldn't have waited till the end of the season, when Spygate re-surfaced to make this comment. He should have done it back in week 1. Instead he non-contestidly paid his fine and moved on as if he knew he was caught, what he did was bad, and delt with it. If his previous statement about never watching the tapes were true, don't you think he would have made that statement after the Jets game in week 1. It took a much bigger game like Superbowl XXXVI before he got defensive about it.
If Bill is right and he never new about any of the tapes and never watched any of them, more power too him. But if he is guilty of this, after going on record and stating he had nothing to do with it, It could cost him his job.

I think that Goodell is doing the best he can, but the investigation is not fully clear... Are they looking into specific games that the Patriots taped and tampered with? Are they looking into what they taped and how they applied it to strategy? Are they looking into who is responsible to applying, taping, or giving orders to tape? Are they looking into how it was parallel to what other teams have done? ...I think they should launch a full investigation, much of like steroids in professional baseball (except not 10 years later than the initial problem arouse sweatdrop ), to find every fact and detail on the nature. Not to single out the Patriots, but to ensure that these actions will not be repeated, and those in responsibility are rightfully met with justice.

And Brady is definately no Dan Marino, and as much as I hate to say it, he's got nothing on Brett Favre. Even though I personally believe that Peyton is the better of the two, if you take Manning out, there are still players from the past that are better. And what I've always said about the 49ers back in their dynasty I'll say about the current Patriots: I could quarterback that team.
