they're kinda mediocre... on the same level as vader, imo. i prefer cryptopsy, death, nile, morbid angel, though corpse is good on certain occasions

A bit too boneheaded and primitive, both musically and lyrically, for my tastes. But they have their place, I suppose.

But they have their place, I suppose. idk about you but i generally don't listen to death metal for the lyrical content... xp It would really have to depend on the subgenre, and to a greater extent, the band. One mass perception of metal that I hate is that it's all lyrically moronic chest-thumping and shock horror, a la HammerFall and Cannibal Corpse.

CC is shock horror? idk, it seems to me like alice cooper and even the misfits were a lot more shocking. CC just seems to repeat the same themes over and over - they're no longer shocking. we've become desensitized. now gwar - that might be true "shock" music - i mean come on, the giant alien d**k that ejaculates on the crowd? xd

But I'm willing to bet that quite a few politicians and "concerned citizens" got their panties in a bunch over the album covers and lyrics at the time. xd
There can be only one GWAR, really.

There can be only one GWAR, really.i actually tend to agree with alice cooper - mainstream entertainment has become so saturated with violent and sexual content, as well as anti-religious sentiment, that it is nearing impossibility to truly shock a large audience today in america. there are some exceptions of course - like screaming "******** god praise satan" in a megachurch, or singing the misfits last caress to a group of middle-aged parents in the bible belt... but those are not average consumers. your average consumer, in the entertainment industry, are high school and college age children and adults, and these people have grown up with movies and books and videogames that were so violent and had such sexual content as to make it exceedingly hard to shock them. however it isn't impossible yet - with timing and unexpectedness, you can still get a rise out of audiences.

Well, if all else fails, there's always the race card to play for shock value. That's something we're still incredibly insecure about as a nation.
