Little did they know that centuries and centuries after their reign, that a (disputed) musical genre would be influnced by them.
The Danes, the Swedes, and The Norwegians inflicted fear upon countless people and yet started cities and the like.
But what's with the fascination of the vikings? How did Viking Metal become so popular? What's with the sudden increase in popularity? Anyone else sick of hearing, "I'm a viking!"

Its the same as pirates. "Excuse me, Mr. Drake, did you know that hundreds of years later, you'd have bands singing about you?" Vikings are a cool topic, and then when you add in the Nationalism that these bands have, and their pride in that "viking heritage", you get people making music about them.

I am also descended from the vikings, so I am allowed to say it cool As for why they are so popular...sure, they are awesome, and cool, and kick a**...but they did actually have a huge impact on Europe, particularly The British Isles. I mean, the capital of ROI (Dublin) wouldn't even be there if it weren't for them.
