In the distance, high in the sky, there was an unusual thing: the dark shape of storm clouds. Judah'Dajan was contemplating this ominous shadow on the horizon as he sat forlornly on a wide, smooth stone. Those clouds were moving on; they weren't going to shower here.

Jude found himself wishing they would. He had been named after rain clouds - it had been his father who had given him the second part of his name. But now his father had disapeared; run from Jude's clingy mother and the hungry mouths of his children. The only thing he had left of his father's was his name. Jude felt empty and angry at his entire family, and had run off to be alone in the grasslands. But he didn't feel like going back to his family. He didn't know if he would ever feel like going back.

Jude sat in solitude, so deeply concentrated internally that he was nearly dead to the world.

She'd wandered away from the spot that she and Kef usually spent their days in for a bit of solitude. She couldn't be around him all the time or he'd probably drive her nuts, or she'd drive him nuts, either way it wouldn't be pretty. She hoped she'd be able to find something new and hopefully edible that they could ponder over. Maybe she could even find a better home so that when it rained they didn't end up soaked!

Huffing she padded her way though the grass toward what looked to be promising. Rocks.

That meant food of some sort usually. It didn't usually mean white furry bottoms sitting on those rocks. She squeaked as she realized someone else was there and that she had been staring at them unintentionally.

Jude's vision had gone kind of unfocused; open, but seeing things in a blurry way. He had been focused more on his own inner turmoil.

But now it almost appeared to Jude's distracted mind that a piece of the stormy rainclouds had broken off and was coming towards him. Hm, that was weird.... As his brain began to shake off the strange fog it was in and his eyes focused on the strange dark shape, he began to realize he wasn't alone here anymore.

It was only a cub, thank goodness, not someone big and scary. But still, Jude was shy of strangers, having met very few of them in his short life so far. He got down off the rock immediately, not wanting to attract attention to himself. But then he realized she had already noticed him - had been staring at him, in fact.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Jude said softly. "Is this your rock? I didn't know. You can have it back."

"My rock?" You could have rocks? She'd never thought of that before. She and Kef seemed to share everything really. Well except for spiders, he could have all of those so long as he kept them away from her. "No ... i was just looking around. Who'er you? I've never seen you before?"

He defiantly didn't look like Kef and he didn't look like her either so he had to be from someone else's family. Was he lost too?

She shook herself slightly to get rid of the startle of finding herself staring at him and sat back on her haunches. The rock still looked interesting but she didn't want to go climbing on it and hurt herself and in front of someone no less.

Who was he? Jude didn't know how to answer. He was a leopard, he was his parent's son, that was all. He wasn't anyone important, nobody that she would know. "My name is Jude," he offered, not knowing what else to say. He didn't bother telling the girl his whole name. It didn't really matter, right? Everyone just called him Jude anyway.

"That's kinda what I'm doing too," he said, a bit shyly, his eyes scanning the sky. "Just, you know...looking around. Watchin' the clouds. That kinda stuff."

The leopard boy looked back at the lioness. Should he ask her about herself? He did sorta want to know; she was somebody new and he hardly ever met anyone that wasn't his family (though, he suspected he would meet many more now that he wasn't going back home.) But he was too shy to speak anymore; he looked past her instead, at the dark clouds so far away.

She tilted her head slightly before turning t look behind her. What was he looking at? "Jude huh..... is something behind me?" She couldn't see anything in the grass or the sky but he seemed intent on staring back there.

Tail flicking slowly behind her she turned back around to look at him. "Why are you all alone? You're not like Kef and me are you?" Neither she nor her friend had been able to find their parents but they at least were somewhat happy with each other around.

Jude's calm eyes slid back over to the girl. "Oh...no, sorry. I was just, kinda, thinking about other things. Sorry," he said again lamely.

Jude struggled to keep his expression from breaking. "I'm alone because I don't want to deal with my family right now," he said, wanting to give a truthful answer without giving too much away. "I don't know if I'll go back. I probably should, I just...don't want to anytime soon."

"Who is Kef? What about you two?"

"Kef's my friend. He lives with me." She liked Kef's company over anyone else, even if she hadn't met anyone else really, just because he was nice. He did get a little showy though some times.

"We don't have families ... well he's got one but he doesn't know where they are so we're waiting on them." She nodded sharply. She was convinced that Kef's family would come find them eventually.

Jude nodded his understanding, but felt a pang of something like jealousy. He was alone out here, when he wasn't with his family. But it was nice that she had a friend.

"I'm sorry," Jude said, not really knowing why - it felt like the right thing to say. "I got a family too. But when I'm with 'em, they just like...kinda ignore me. Plus they're all loud and sorta mean. So I stay out here a lot. I dunno if I'll go back ever. I rather like bein' out here. So...I'll stay here by myself I guess."

Feeling like he had talked too much about himself, the quiet leopard boy redirected the conversation. "Maybe I could help you and Kef look for his family?" He would kinda like to meet some others his own age. She was nice, maybe her friend was nice too. Maybe he could be their friend, too. He thought about it a while, and it sounded like a nice idea.

She nodded and bounded back up and a bit toward where she'd come from. Kef would like meeting others and if there were more eyes that meant they could catch more food and they could look faster for the other cub's parents.

"Maybe if you stay away a while then come back your family will miss you and think about you being there?" It seemed to make sense. If you took something away that was something you were used to begin there wouldn't you notice?

Jude watched the girl as she got up and moved; "Oh, did you want to go find your friend?" he asked shyly. He didn't know if she wanted him to go with her, and he was a little afraid too. If he left this rock and went with her, maybe he'd get too lost to find his family again, or maybe they'd leave someplace without him. He had thought about leaving anyway, but this seemed more real and dangerous.

"That's true," Jude mused thoughtfully, not having thought about that before. "Maybe they would miss me. But, I dunno. I have a lot of siblings and everyone is so loud, I don't know if they would notice me being gone." He shrugged, not wanting to pursue that thought any longer.

"So, um, you want me to come with you to meet your friend, maybe?" Jude wanted to break away from his comfort zone close to his family's home - maybe then he could think clearly.

She smiled and nodded. "If you want to. I bet Kef would love to meet you." Maybe somehow they could make Jude feel better about his family. Neither she nor her friend had families really so they could give the other cub time to think about things. She always seemed to think better when she had her friend close by. He was always helpful.

"It's not far. I didn't want to get too far away incase me came looking for me."

Jude gave her a wavery smile. "Sure, good," he said, trying to sound upbeat. It's not that he wasn't excited, but he was a shy boy and he was leaving the area he felt most comfortable in.

"I'm glad it's not far," he said with relief. Maybe he could find his way back home if he got scared enough.

Jude put on a brave smile. "Lead the way." He sounded more adventurous than he felt.

With Jude following her she bounced off back toward where she'd left Kef. She knew her friend would be happy to see their new friend, she just knew it!

They could all play together too. Things were always more fun when there were more right? With Jude to play too the games would be even better. She and Kef were starting to figure each other out two well to play.

"It'll be so much fun with you there." She grinned back at Jude before heading toward the familiar trees.
