Ok, so this isn't exactly about abortion, but it is about birth control and a right to privacy.
I just got a call from my mother (who is luckily prochoice and supportive of any decisions I make about my body) because the other day I went into a Shoprite to purchase PlanB because the condom snapped while me and my boyfriend were making love on Sunday, and we didn't realize it till after he was finished. Apparently the pharmacist there knows my mother and recognized me, because she just called my mom to tell her that I was trying to kill my baby.
I knew this lady had a problem with me, because I got some very dirty looks from her and she refused to inform me how to use the pills. I ended up going back to Walgreens (where I first went for the pill, but they had run out) to talk to the pharmacist there who explained everything to me. Of course, I complained to the Shoprite store manager about her behavior, but doubt anything action was taken.
But how dare she call my MOTHER? I am 22 years old, well above the age of consent and the age to be able to purchase contraceptives or have an abortion without my parents permission. She completely violated my right to privacy, and my right to confidentiality. I mean, it's not like it's I'm getting kicked out of my house or anything because my mom already KNEW and actually paid me back the money I spent on the prescription. But I can imagine what could have happened if I had the rigid, inflexible parents that some others do.
I am just completely flabbergasted at this pharmacists behavior.
