Going To School Tanner was sitting in Don's VW buggy fidgeting around nervously. His first school semester was going to be starting soon and that meant he had to move away from home. He was a little nervous and the thoughts of not always having Don around anymore made him even more home sick.
In the trunk and back seats boxes and bags were crammed into the car as best as Don could manage. The father would spare no expense on his little, or perhaps not so little, boys dorm room.
Tanner had packed himself many things to remind him of home, including a picture of him and Don from the first day Don had brought him home, although that was the only thing that Tanner had not told his father he was bringing.Don was not much better off, although he would never show that in front of his son. He needed to be strong to support Tanner. The man was dreading this day horribly, and pleaded with the technicians to let Tanner stay at his house and Don would provide transportation to his classes daily. All to no avail, the fact remained that Tanner would be leaving home for a long while and could only return home on holidays and weekends.
The man was a teacher at the school and the fact that he couldn't even pull some strings showed how strict the rules were. His little baby boy was going to school and away from home, growing up and going into the world. His house tonight would once again be lonely, like it had been in the years past before Don had adopted. He tried not to think about it.Tanner was looking out the window and watching the scenery pass by with a melancholy stare. He didn't want to leave his dad anymore than Don wanted him to leave. The two were increadibly close, they had almost never quarelled and the few times they did they both felt so terrible afterwards that in a few moments they were embracing each other apologizing. The large group of buildings that formed the campus soon came into view...they were there. Don parked the car and after a few moments announced, "...Well buddy, we're here." as he opened the car door and started to step out.Tanner remained silent but also began to exit the car. He grabbed what things he could, leaving the rest for don to grab with the carts that the dorms had for moving in and out. Once they got to Tanner's new room Don unlocked the door with the key he had been given, it sounded like nails on a chalkboard to the depressed father.
They both trudged in trying to pro-long the move as best they could. Tanner however couldn't hold himself back any longer, once they were in the room he dropped his bags and ran over to Don wrapping his arms around his waist starting to cry.It took a lot of will power for Don not to do the same thing. Instead he knelt down and gently wrapped his arms around his son in return, and began to rub his back knowing that words would be useless to try and comfort his boy.

Kale, for the first time ever, wasn't feeling very talkative. He wasn't fiddling with the radio. He wasn't even paying much attention to the new Amazing Man action figure his dad bought him yesterday. No, no, today was just too...scary for that stuff. He felt like throwing up, and probably would if he thought it could get him out of doing this today. But he knew it wouldn't: He had heard his father on the phone, practically begging the men on the other line to let Kale attend a normal school closer to home. They weren't bending at all, however. Which lead to today. The back of the car was packed to the brim with new stuff Marshall bought Kale so he'd feel a bit more at home at the dorm: a new TV, a game system, Amazing Man bed-sheets and posters, decorations...But none of them could make this place better than his home.
Marshall wasn't feeling so hot either. He didn't sleep that night, just dreading today. He didn't even want to imagine how his house was going to be tonight; So cold and life-less. He wanted to say some thing re-assuring, but some how 'Hey, at least you get to come home on the week-ends?' didn't really have the same ring as some thing actually useful. "...We're here, lil' dude." Marshall said, trying to fake a little bit of happiness...and sucking at it.
"...Oh..." Kale said solomnly, hugging his action figure. "D-Dad...D-Do I have to go?" Kale said, tears in his eyes. He knew that he was "evolved", and was a big kid now, but right now he just wanted to cry. He undid his seat-belt and hugged his dad, crying.
Marshall felt like doing the same. "...Hey, hey now...It...It'll be okay...I promise, okay?" Marshall lied, holding his son. Yeah, today was as bad as they imagined it'd be. It was a good twenty minutes before they actually left the car, and Kale was still drying his eyes. Marshall looked up, seeing Tanner and Don. He would've waved, but was carrying the first box of Kale's junk.

Tanner had stopped crying about fifteen minutes. Just as Don's will was begining to give out. The man was still holding his son tightly and vice versa. They didn't want to let go, and they didn't want to leave. Don was burning the feeling of his warm albeit squishy sons comforting hug, the memory would be the only thing that could help him get some sleep that night if only for an hour or two.
Tanner was putting the scent of his dad's cologne mixed with his inscense in his mind. It was the most powerful thing that reminded him of him. He knew it was wrong, but he couldn't help but steal a package of his dad's incense to bring to the dorm with him. He thought it might help him feel a little more at home.
At last Don pulled away from his son and looked at his face, "Tanner, I know it's scary, and I know it's going to be a lot different. But you need to be able to get a good education, and at least you'll have me for a teacher in a couple of your classes. You're gonna have Kale as your roomate and I heard that Iah is in the Lucario house as well. I'm sure you'll get used to it and do great." He said as he wiped the tears from his sons eyes, "If you need anything, or just want to talk, you can call me no matter what time it is. Now, we should start getting you unpacked, ok buddy?" Don said as he gave Tanner another quick hug while he waited for a reply.
"Okay daddy. Ah'll do mah best." Tanner said with a couple sniffles but doing his best to calm down.
"That's my little partner." Don said with a smile as he patted Tanner on the back before standing back up to go and start unpacking some of the bags and boxes.
A few minutes later Don and Tanner noticed as Marshall and Kale entered the dorm. Don waved at the two and smiled a bit with a, "Hey guys, how's it going?" While Tanner merely looked at Kale with a feeble smile.

Kale smiled back, not completely dreading this for the first time. He really, really was happy to have his best friend in his room. It made it just a little less scary. Just a little. Kale wiped his eyes again, smiling. "H-Hey Tanner..." he managed to squeak out.
"Its...Okay..." Marshall said. While Marshall was a little jealous of Don, he took solace in the fact that he wasn't alone in his dread and fear.

"Hey Kale...how're ya?" He said with a little bit of a sniffle though he quickly was starting to force himself to regain his composure.
"...It's good to see you again Marshall. Even if these aren't the, uh...most ideal terms." He said with an uncomfortable chuckle. He was unpacking Tanner's things though it was obvious he was taking his sweet time. He did not want to leave the dorm, as he was sure Marshall wouldn't want to either.

"...I'm okay. My dad bought us a TV and a Wii!" Kale said, faking happiness to his best friend. He knew Tanner: He cried a lot and got scared easily. He didn't want his friend to know that he just spent nearly half an hour in his dad's car crying like a baby!
"Tell me 'bout it...And, um, I hope you don't mind. See, my last book did pretty well, and I wanted Kale to have all the comforts of...home..." Marshall explained, saying the last word "home" with a pinch of bitterness. This place wasn't Kale's home, damnit!

"That's fun..." Tanner said a little absent mindedly. He didn't mean to seem to anti-social his mind was just on Don and their inevitable parting. He was close to running up to him and crying again, however he didn't want Mr. Green and Kale to see that.
"Hmm? No, I wouldn't mind. I actually got the boys a mini fridge and a microwave." Don said with a little bit of a chuckle though it was hardly a chuckle that was worth noticing.

"Oh, they allow that? Good, then..." Marshall said, trying to make conversation and failing miserably at it. He wanted to lighten the mood, at least in front of the kids, but still. This was just too painful.
"Y-yeah..." Kale said, not exactly fully into the conversation either. Please don't make us stay here... he thought sadly.

After a few hours of sparce conversation and unpacking the boys dorm was finally set up. Aside from the general mood of the lot of them once they were settled in they would have it nice.
"Well buddy...I think we need to get going. Their gonna come make rounds soon to make sure everyones in their dorms." Don said coming over to Tanner and kneeling down to give him a huge hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Call me when ever ya want buddy." Don said still hugging his boy.
Tanner couldn't hold back his tears anymore, he wrapped his arms around Don and started crying again but burried his face deep into Don's chest trying not to let Kale or Mr. Green see him cry.
Don held him tight and rubbed his back trying to comfort him. He wasn't taking it much better then Tanner, Don was still in disbelief that Tanner wasn't going to be coming home with him that night.

Marshall sighed, staring at the empty boxes. Just one more, thats it. He if just had one more box to unpack, he wouldn't have to leave. At least not yet. Just one box was all he wanted. He peeked into the box and was greeted with its emptiness, much like the house was going to be when Marshall got home tonight.
"...I'll see you on Friday...Okay?" Marshall said, trying not to shed any tears in front of his son.
Kale nodded, throwing his arms around his father while trying not to cry, and failing miserably. "O-O-Okay..." Kale said, trying to think positive like his dad taught him to: He'd be home Friday! He was going to be with his best friend until then! Even with that, though, the tears wouldn't stop falling.
"It'll be okay...I promise..." Marshall said, eyes clenched shut so he wouldn't cry. "...Ready to go?" Marshall asked Don with a frown on his face as the door was knocked on by a woman with pink hair in buns.
