I am curious as to what everyone's opinion on the real point of being a Christian is. so what is it? is it to get your fire insurance? the rest of the benefits? someone to cry to when things go bad? someone to blame? someone to share a deep meaningful relationship with? something you do because its just 'the right thing to do'? something you felt funny about and wanted to make the funny feeling go away? something that everyone else was doing? something your parents pressured you into? something you think is real but you aren't sure? something you believe in with all your heart? or... idk what is it to u? plz talk.I would like to know all of your opinions.

Being a Christian means having a relationship with God. Knowing someone is always there through hard or joyful times. Someone who knows you the best and can listen at any moment. God is my ultimate best friend and my heart beats faster when I am closer to him. I am so thankful to him and we all should be.

yay! im not the only one that knows that! where i used to go to church i never heard anything about the relationship specifically and its taken me a while to realize that what its about but no one thats not nondenominational that i talk to seems to kno that. its really kinda sad.

To me, it seems that those of a denomination don't seem to know that being a Christian is loving God in a relationship and glorifying Him in your everyday lifestyle. To them, it's just a religion.

Why did you put those choices up there when no one is going to choose them?

To me, Christianity is my rock, my lifeline. It saved my life, so I'm going to live it that way.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 17, 2008 7:51 pm

It's really just another religion. You have your sacred doctrine to follow and precepts and all of that. Alot of people(church going christians) say it's having a close relationship with GOD, which I'm not quite sure how they got that out of the Bible seeing as though it's like if you don't obey what GOD says your automatically not his friend. That to me seems more like some sort of conditional friendship, and seeing as though If you don't do what he says and something bad happens to you, it's more like a dictatorships. Although so things he ask you to "obey him" in are just common sense like don't drink to drunkenness or be lazy, so I suppose some f what he "commands" isn't entirely without perks.

Wait. You're saying God gives some sort of conditional love? It's not that God won't be your friend anymore if you don't obey Him. You can always call on him for help and guidance. He cares for you. First of all, He loves you, and He created you. Secondly, if you are a child of God, it is your decision to ask forgiveness from God if you want to get CLOSER to Him. Thirdly, before you obey God's commands, believe that He loves you so much that He set those standards for you to protect you, 'cause this world will only lead you to destruction without God's help.

Just remember: Love God with all your heart. Grow closer to Him and get intimate with the Holy Spirit through prayer. Then live a lifestyle that is pleasing to Him.

And do you truly know the Gospel?
God has always loved us from the beginning. We were meant to be together with God, but sin seperated God and man. Sin has hardened the hearts of man towards God's love. So to solve this, God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins out of His mercy, so that we may be forgiven and draw closer to Him. It is then a matter for you to believe and accept God into your heart or to turn your back on His love.

And if you struggle to live Holy, God will help you to pick up your cross daily. =)

True. It is hard. If we try to live Holy on our own will, it is impossible. We can't live the Christian life by our own emotions. It is by a relationship. Whenever I get confronted by temptation, I immediately pray and ask God for His will to be mine for he know's what's best for me. I keep the faith. the Holy Spirit will help you.

This morning I read Luke 4:
The Temptation of Jesus

"1Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, 2where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

3The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread."

4Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone.' "

5The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7So if you worship me, it will all be yours."

8Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.' "

9The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down from here. 10For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you
to guard you carefully;
11they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"

12Jesus answered, "It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"

13When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time."

Notice the passage said Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Ask God for the Holy spirit. Only through long intimate prayer, you can understand God more. And through that, obey Him. And in the long run, the feeling of this world and its temptation of sin will be a disgust to you. You will soon have the mind of Christ. Get to know God. Once you try to reach that goal, you'll experience the Greatest Love.

Learn to love God FIRST before you can obey His commands. There is no pressure in a relationship with God. God will never reject you. Our own will just make us cold and blind. But we must be crucified with Christ!

Also about your Luke thing, I have to say this Jesus was GOD is human form so thats not nessecarily encouraging to see the most powerful being in the universe-possibly take the form of man and completely stomp temptation and the devil in a single swooping, and also although he was made to be sin specifically a sin sacrifice for us I don't think he was born with sin. I think that even with the Holy Spirit it is hard, because temptation always comes back sooner or later.

Just remember there is a difference between joy and happiness. HAppiness come from THIS WORLD and IT'S PLEASURES. Joy comes from a Supernatural touch through Christ. Being crucified with Christ is simply a means of dying to your self and old things have past away.

And well we are cursed through Adam and Eve's mistake. But Adam and Eve were human. God didn't want us to be made into ROBOTS.

Also remember that the Gospel is straightforward. It shows you your sins and all your wrongdoings. It convicts and brings shame. It sure brought shame to me, only Jesus can bring a change! And I just love God.
