It had only been a week or so since Spotty first met November. Yet in that time the two had barely been away from each other. The stallion had never cared about another like he did for November, and she felt the same. Spotty had been thinking about all this, trying to decide what it all meant. I guess this means we're mates... he reasoned with himself. But he hadn't talked to November about all this.

Spotty almost couldn't believe that he had found someone as wonderful as November in such a short time. He was starting to think that he would be alone forever. This turned out to be wrong, he was now even sleeping in November's teepee to avoid the cold.

November was so happy lately. She attributed this to the fact that Spotty had been living with her. He was such a handsome, strong, kind stallion. He was so very sweet and loving. November had never cared about someone this much before. The best part was that Spotty cared about her too. Of course, the two of them becoming lifemates had occured to November, but she hadn't really given it much thought, prefering to simply bask in the joy that Spotty was with her. She had realized that she loved him, and she was waiting for the right time to tell him how she felt.

The stallion decided that it was time to talk to November about the mates issue. Hopefully she would agree to stay with him, well he was pretty sure she would. But he was still worried about being left alone.

The two had just woken up in November's teepee. Spotty figured this was as good a time as any to talk to the mare. "November," he started, "I was wondering about a few things. Do you want to become lifemates?" He wasn't sure how to phrase the question and just said it bluntly. It seemed that things were moving pretty fast between the two. Spotty could only hope it wasn't too fast for November.

November was startled at Spotty's proposal. Though highly anticipated, she hadn't expected him to ask her so soon. Nevertheless, she was very glad, and smiled at him warmly. "Of course I do, Spotty." she said, nuzzling him with her nose. "I...I love you, Spotty." Her voice shook just a little bit as she spoke. She felt so vulnerable, revealing her feelings for him like this. November looked at him nervously, hoping she wasn't moving too fast for him. She was so glad to have found him, and she never wanted to lose him.

A smile grew upon Spotty's face when the mare smiled at him. Spotty was relieved at November's response and was a little taken back by her next statement. The stallion had never had anyone tell him that they loved him. But Spotty felt a rush and a calmness inside him when she did. It felt like he needed to hear this all his life.

Now Spotty knew he should say it back to November. That he should tell his pumpkin pie how he feels. However, he found it hard to do so. He had never said 'I love you' to anyone before. "November I...." he paused, thinking of how to say it, "I....love you too." He hoped this confession was good enough.

November saw the relief on Spotty's face when he heard her reply. She knew that he must have been very worried, but she didn't understand exactly why. She had no intentions of ever leaving him, which was why she had told him how she felt. She did know that males in general had issues saying how they felt, even more so than she did.

When Spotty said that he loved her, even when he said it so faintly, she knew that he meant it from the expression on his face. He wouldn't have asked her to be his lifemate if he didn't love her. Her face lit up, and she smiled and blushed at the same time. She nuzzled him again, breathing in his scent. She couldn't believe that they were lifemates, that they would be together forever. She had never been happier.

Even though it was hard for Spotty to say, he saw how November's face lit up when he told her how he felt. It made him feel happy inside and glad that the two had decided to become lifemates. Now neither one of them would have to be alone. They would always have each other.

Now that the two were mates, Spotty wondered if they would ever start a family. But he put that thought at the back of his mind. After all, they had just offically become mates and a family should be the last thing on his mind. He decided to concentrate on November for now and gently nipped at her hair. "Would you like to go for a walk?" he suggested, noticing that it had stopped snowing outside.

November was thinking about life and love. She knew she would never be alone now, that her days of living by herself were over. She didn't know what the years would hold, but she sincerely hoped that she would have a family someday.

She smiled at him as he nipped at her hair, returning the affection with a gentle kiss on his cheek. November beamed at him, blushing, and said, "I would love to, Spotty dear." It felt strange for her to call Spotty "dear." But, she loved calling him that. She was so excited by all of this. She walked out of the teepee with him, feeling like the luckiest mare in the world.

Spotty felt himself smile again when November called him 'dear'. Now he felt the urge to think of a little pet name for November. "Alright, Pumpkin." he answered after a minute. November was the exact color of pumpkin pie and the nickname was almost a given.

Once outside, Spotty could see how much it had snowed. There wasn't a speck of green in view, everything was covered in white. He was a little disappointed when he noticed that there were no other Soquili around. But the quiet landscape was peaceful and the two mates would be able to enjoy each other's company without interuption.

November looked across the snow-covered landscape. It was so beautiful, but rather lonely. She was glad that Spotty was with her. She nosed the snow, feeling the soft wetness of it. She didn't think she'd ever get tired of being out in the snow with Spotty. Ever since she met him, the snow had taken on a different meaning for her. She loved it now, because it reminded her of him.

She stood close to him, so close that their bodies brushed each other. She blushed when he called her 'pumpkin.' She looked up at him. "So, where are we going?" she asked, leaning over to nibble on the ends of his braided mane.

Spotty could only think of how wonderful it was to enjoy the landscape with someone else. He had always had to enjoy it alone, which proved to make him more lonely than anything else. Now he could just look over at November and know she would always be beside him.

"How about the trees over there," Spotty suggested, motioning towards the large willow trees a little ways away. The large trees had given shelter to the grass underneath. So there was barely any snow covering the green earth under them.

November looked where Spotty pointed, noting the gorgeous willow trees. "It's perfect, Spotty." she said, smiling. She walked over with him to the grassy area beneath the trees. "It's so warm underneath the trees..." she remarked, her voice soft. The willow trees provided insulation from most of the wind, so it was a considerable amount warmer beneath their sheltering branches.

It was notibly warmer under the trees and there was barely layer of snow on the ground. This would be the perfect place to take a rest from the winter cold. "Let's rest here for a while," Spotty said to November, "I wouldn't want you to get too cold out here."

Spotty layed down and motioned for November to join him.

"A rest sounds wonderful, dear." She said, curling up next to him in the grass. She lay close to him, feeling his chest rise and fall as he breathed. She smiled at him, and leaned up and kissed his cheek. "This is wonderful...so peaceful."

Through the course of the day, November had learned that Spotty loved her, and so the two had become lifemates. She now lay with the love of her life, and had but one gift left to give him before her life would be completely fulfilled. That being the case, even though they were "resting," she was not sleepy. She grinned at him mischeviously, a spark in her eyes that had never been there before.

There would be no sleeping this time.
