She was out and about again, but this time for a purpose. This was no meaningless walk just to stretch her legs. No, Pomoka intended to discover as much as she could about these so called Firekin.
She wanted to learn about them, learn their ways, their mannerisms and beliefs. She wanted to delve into their minds and understand their workings. Only then, when she truly understood her enemy, could she avenge her mother.
Yes, Jini'Pomoka had a dark side to her, a side that sh rarely showed to anyone. Ninety percent of Jini was kind and goodness, she was a loving female who wanted nothing more than to lead a happy life with her mate, maybe even raising cubs in the Kusini.
But then there was that other ten percent, the percent that was filled with hatred. It had only grown with age and now the very word Firekin had her seething, had her wanting blood. Strange how such a gentle creature could have such deadly thoughts.
But could you really blame her?
The Firekin had taken away the most important thing to a cub. It's mother. And even with Kiburi looking down at her from the stars, Jini could not rest until she had seen her mother's murderers pay for what they did.
She stretched lithely, one hind leg and then the other and then she gave a low grunt, shaking the flies from her ears. It was hot!

It had been so long since Kirjava had been in contact with her son. She worried for him with each passing day. Ever since the fight with her son the pair had shared many moons ago, she hadn't seen him since. The lioness was sure that he had grown by now, his mane was probably full. All she hoped for was that he was happy and maybe, he had started a family of his own. While her mind had drifted off towards the thoughts about her son, she dearly missed him and his company.
Not only had her eldest son left her on bad terms, her second litter had grown and went on their own ways as well. She hadn't seen Kol in quite a long time, she didn't know where he was. Ears drooped slightly as she felt alone. She hadn't felt this alone in quite a long time, actually. It was a rather depressing thing, to have had so much happen in your life, but to have nothing to show for it other than the scars on her and memories that still haunted her to this day.
A soft sigh escaped from her as she was traveling with no destination in mind. She had no pride, no home to go to every night. She wandered, and would wander for the rest of her life. No place was safe to her. No place was home to her, that was for sure. Crimson eyes gazed forward on to the vast lands before her, with a heavy heart in tow.

Jini was walking too, her tail swaying out behind her. The ground here was pleasant and easy on the paws and there was a pleasant scent on the air, maybe of flowers.
Jini crested a small hillock and gazed about her and was mildly surprised when she saw the figure of a lone lioness approaching. She gave a small chuff and moved towards the stranger.
She was cautious but friendly, a smile on her face.
"Hello there!" She called. The female was older amd she looked...sad? "Are you okay?"

Completely immersed in her thoughts, Kirjava wouldn't have noticed or taken heed to the other lioness had something not stopped her. Crimson eyes widen in surprise. The other lioness looks so much like her sister, like Kiburi. Ah, Kiburi. She hadn't seen the other lioness in so long, not since their little "adventure" in the desert. She stood there, looking over the other lioness before she gave her a small smile and a reply,
"I guess you could say that. I am just thinking about everything that I have done and cannot change," She paused before tilting her head, "You look like someone very close to me. Are you, by change, related to Kiburi. I had not seen her in so long, and every since then, I didn't know where I could find her."

Jini, coming to a slow halt, looked at the tan and red female with interest. Maybe there was something she could do to cheer her up! Either way, a chance to chat wasn't something Jini ever passed up.
"Certainly not the most happiest of thoughts." Jini'pomoka replied. "Look to the future, maybe there'll be happier things waiting for you." She was about to continue when Kirjava asked if she was related to Kiburi.
The young female stiffened. Her eyes turned glossy and when she spoke next her voice was hoarse. "You knew my...mother?"
Could it be? Could it be she'd finally found someone who could help her. Who could bring to life a part of her mother that she'd never known.

Crimson eyes took in the female, Kirjava couldn't help to notice the striking similarities between the female and Kiburi. They were almost like copies, except for little differences here and there. Her expression had soften a bit as she nodded her head. "Oh yes, Kiburi had been my first close friend and we had grown up together through some hard times," She paused briefly, remembering Kiburi with memories that hadn't been awaken for some time.
Her tail flicked slightly, "You look almost exactly like her, which is why I could tell you were related to her. She was someone dear to me and my son, and I had hoped to find her again to see how she was doing."

So this was one of mother's friends back in the day. It warmed Jini's heart to think that Kiburi had made a friend, a friend who had not forgotten her despite not seeing her for a long time.
"So you were there with her in the Firekin Lands?" Jini whispered, feeling herself trembling. She hated breaking bad news, especially news that she hadn't quite got over.
"I'm Jini'pomoka." She spoke softly, sitting down. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." She shook her head sadly. "But mother...mother is dead." She continued hastily, hoping the words would keep back her sobs. "She died of her wounds, her weakness inflicted on her by those Firekin."

With a nod, Kirjava confirmed her connection to Jini's mother. "Yes, I was there with your mother in the Firekin lands. In order to survive, you had to make friends and rely on one another. My name's Kirjava." Though, Jini's final words were like a blow to the lioness. Kiburi had passed on? Oh dear.
Her breath had been caught in her throat as she sat down to let the news sink in. She had never expected to hear such news, but to hear it from Kiburi's daughter was all the more heartwrenching. While it had been some time, she was hoping to find Kiburi again to catch up on old times. Now, she was starting to regret not going in search of Kiburi sooner. Crimson eyes turned to look at Jini, "Is that true? She has passed on already?" She could feel a sob get caught in her throat as her eyes watered, "I hadn't seen her in so long, I didn't know where to start searching for her. I was hoping that we'd have time to catch up." It was hard to comprehend that Kiburi was really gone, while it was so long ago, the memories of the time they shared had been brought forward. Tears welled up in the lioness's eyes before they slowly rolled down her cheeks.
Softly, she asked, "Was she in pain when she left?" She knew the Firekin had been rough with Kiburi, but Kiburi was such a nice lioness in the first place that it sadden her even more to know of her plight to the Firekin.

((Sorry for the wait Kir, the thread moves so fast ;o; ))
Her tears were infectious. They welled in Jini's own eyes, flooded down her face. Oh, why was it that she was the one who had to be the bearer of bad news.
She stepped towards the older lioness, her eyes solemn. She tried to be strong but it was hard. The wounds left behind by the loss of her mother were not yet healed. "She has." Jini's voice was hoarse. She was an adult now but Kiburi should have lived through a few more litters yet. But, against odds, she had survived to have one.
"She escaped the lands and went to the Kusini'mwezi, where me and my sisters and brother were born. Six of us in all." She continued as if talking about a dream that had never happened.
"She wasn't in any pain, not really. She had her cubs with her and her friend Uumikaji. She didn't go alone. She smiled." Her tail waved softly. "I think she watches down on us now. And, she's in my heart too. And yours. If we keep her there she can never truly die." Well she didn't know where the words came from, probably born in order to comfort Kirjava. But they made sense and Jini felt warmer for knowing it.
Kiburi's memories would keep her alive. All Jini had to do was remember and never forget.
The younger lioness leaned forward to brush her head against the older's shoulder. "I'm sorry I had to bring this news to you."

((*fluffs* It's alright Kim. <3))
Ears were turned in Jini's direction as Kirjava listened intently. Kiburi had a large litter, larger than any she's ever had! But, she didn't recognize the name of the pride where Kiburi had went and realized it might have taken her a long time finding that pride by herself and she was rather lucky to have run into Jini, even if it was under sad circumstances.
It just pained her to realize that she'd never get to laugh with Kiburi again or share a smile between them. Though, she felt her heart warm at the idea that Kiburi had a friend with her when she had passed even if she wasn't there herself. She blinked away a few more tears that had escaped, though the tears had started to subside a bit. Jini's words went to her heart. "I am glad," She paused before trying to let a smile form on her features, "You are right, she's still in my heart and in my son's. He adored her, Auntie Kiburi, as he called her. I considered her a sister of mine, I never had any blood relatives but Kiburi was as close as I could get to one."
Her crimson eyes twinkled before at the thought before she felt the younger lioness comfort her. It must have been hard, to not have a mother around but to hear so much about her. Maybe that's kind of what Ravi felt like without a father in his life. "I understand. As much as it pains me for you to tell me, it comforts me to hear it from you rather than hear it from anyone else. It would not mean the same to me."

She smiled, softly, felt a part of her wound heal up. Here she'd found a piece of her mother in the face of a stranger. She'd found someone who had thought mother a friend. Jini'pomoka felt honoured.
Her tears shone in her eyes but she managed to keep them at bay.
"Her suffering is over." Jini whispered. "She is happy." It was hard not having a mother around, it had filled her with sadness, with hatred for those who had hurt her mother. She wanted to ask Kirjava where she could find the desert but wasn't sure that she should explain her plan.
She had a feeling Kirjava wouldn't like it.
"At least with you here, it means hope for anyone else trapped in those lands." Jini replied. "Mother told me stories of the Firekin, she held no hate for them...though I don't see how she could ever forgive them. I won't..." She trailed off. "Do you hate them Kirjava?"

With Kiburi's memory, Kirjava would honor her friend once she left to go back to her den. There she would have a little memorial and a time to mourn. But for now, she wanted to take the time she had now with Kiburi's daughter to her fully advantage. Her tail flicked slightly as her cheeks were still moist from the tears that had been previously shed. And she was certain that Kiburi was happy and free in her passing.
Though, Jini's words brought her back to reality. They were something she hadn't thought about in quite a while. Did she really hate them? Perhaps she did, they were awful lions but they were just brainwashed into their ways. "Do I hate them..." He paused thoughtfully, "To be honest, I do not know the answer to anymore. I had hated them with a passion when I was being held there and the time directly afterwards, but now, I am not sure. I would be lying though if I told you that I don't still have an instinctual fear of large, red lions. They've instilled a fear in me that makes me uneasy and something I can't help but to have. But it's been so long that I just don't know what I feel towards them anymore, I try to not remember my past too much, even if I have to live with it each and every day." She let her voice trail off softly.

"You know..." Jini replied thoughtfully. "As hard and horrible as your life and my mother's life was in those terrible lands I feel as if it brought good to you too." She smiled, wearily. "It taught you to enjoy the simplicities of life, to take every day as it comes. You can appreciate every aspect of living and not take it for granted. You know what it's like to live in slavery and to escape to freedom."
She leaned forwards, buffetted her head against Kirjava. "I'm off on a...journey. I want to explore just like my mother did before her capture. I want to live life to its fullest. You've both shown me how important that is."
She smiled, genuinely. "If you ever want to come and see me again, I would welcome you warmly to the Kusini'mwezi."

With a small smile, Jini's words made sense to Kirjava. She hadn't really looked too much into that, but it did bring a lot of good out of it. The crimson female had gained not only a son, but a sister as well. "When you put the words together like that, it sounds wonderful. I wouldn't have thought about it too much that way, but it is true. I don't like to take anything for granted because then I think about all the things that I did not have while I was enslaved. I am glad to have gained more family out of it in the end."
Wit Jini's forehead against her own, Kirjava couldn't help but to smile wider at the lioness. It was almost like looking at Kiburi, but through her daughter. They just looked so alike, it made all the wonderful memories of Kiburi emerge to the surface from the corners of her mind. "I wish you the best of luck, Jini. You can gain so much from traveling and experiencing many things," She paused before giving the lioness a soft nuzzle, "I kindly thank you on your offer. I will definitely have to come and visit you." She meant every word of it, it meant so much to hear Jini welcome her to visit at any time. It was like she was gaining something back from her past, and even if she couldn't visit Kiburi now, she would settle with the next best thing and that was Kiburi's legacy in her cubs.

She smiled. She'd never felt this close to her mother in her life. Here was a lioness who knew her well, so well they considered themselves sisters. Jini closed her her eyes, was rocked by emotion.
A part of her wanted to stay with Kirjava, travel with her, talk to her. She wanted to get to know everything about her past; though she decided it might be hard to bring back to the surface after trying to forget.
She purred, opened her eyes, her bright eyes that were very different from her mother's cool and placed ones. "Thank you." She croaked. "Thank you for helping bring my mother to light." She sniffed, didn't want to cry anymore. But meeting Kirjava had eleased the emotion, the emotion she had held cooped up for so long.
"I wish I could stay with you, but, there's something I must do..." She trailed off. She couldn't possibly tell Kirjava what she plotted. "I would be glad if you visited me. I intend to raise my own family in the Kusini lands one day."
She took a step back, seemed hesitant to turn away.
