First off; for shame. NO new messages in over a week.
My house nearly burnt down. So I had an early night so didn't do my usual psychotic checking for fire hazards. So anyway, My so called friend Penny left a candle burning. I don't think there was ever any actual flames, butI have a huge black burn mark about 30cm square on my Albert Dock Chest of draws (so called, because that is where it was bought) and very black walls.
Which is a tragedy because I just redecorated a few days ago, and soot is an absolute bugger to remove. I think so far I've just made it worse. I've spent all morning sanding down the chest of draws trying desperately to reach the none burn layers.
I COULD HAVE DIED! The smoke alarm didn't even go off and yet I could smell smoke as soon as I opened my bedroom door. I swear those things only go off my I'm using the grill (and NOT burning food btw)

eek scary. Good thing you caught it in time! I know what you mean about the smoke alarms. rolleyes & yes.... sweatdrop shame on us... sweatdrop

gonk sweatdrop I haven't been active any where lately other than lurking. xp
glad you're okay, and you caught it time! Make your friend come help you remove the smoke. I mean... it's the least she could do!

I actually have her here right now painting. While I'm sat here doing nothing. I'd feel bad but it is her fault, and I did the first coat. Also I only really have one step ladder, the other is in the cupboard of death and I'm not in the mood to risk life and limb.
So there's my decision rationalised and defended

Hmm, apart from the fact that I had black hand, constantly. But yeah, you're totally right. if the candle had been almost anywhere else t would have been a whole lot worse
