It was a cold day in the park, but with both of his companions engrossed in playing in a sandbox, Rowan could hardly leave. After all, even if he didn't particularly like Alexis, he loved Charity, and Charity adored Alexis. So he sat on a bench and stared at the two of them constructing a fortress wall around a 'volcano', only occasionally working on the list of music updates he had brought with him. Hopefully they'd be bored or cold soon.
Alexis, though, had no intention of leaving any time soon. He still had to form up the mountain of sand behind the wall to make it a castle, or maybe a tunnel system like in the movie he'd seen with a big room and trolls! How cool would that be? He hummed this idea to Charity, who nodded and showed him how to start constructing a tunnel into the 'mountain'.

Most children would have run off eagerly to explore this new place, or clung fearfully to their guardians; Aren did neither. For a few moments, she simply stood and observed. She watched the children running about for a few moments, then shifted her gaze to watch the birds. A few moments later, she again shifted to study the foilage.
She certainly was slow in picking what she would do.
Finally, she trotted off to play, leaving her guardian sitting at a nearby bench, after having observed carefully. She didn't choose her 'play-place' simply by what looked like the most fun - she chose it because she was curious. She hadn't met very many people yet, after all; she wanted to watch them.
So rather then diving in and playing with the strange children, Aren went over to the edge of a sandbox, sat on the edge of it, and tilted her head as she watched.
It never entered her mind that people might find it strange that she just went over and was staring at them.

Alexis didn't seem much perturbed; after all, he spent much of his time being stared at by a much scarier creature than Aren, who wasn't so much a creature as a humanoid. He continued to bore holes in the side of the pile of sand, ignoring the girl as he did so.
But Charity, who spent much of her time doing the staring, was unsettled. She looked back at Aren, her nimble hands paused in her work of helping Lexi build a Moria from a sandy mountain. "Myyy," she sighed, half-turning so she could watch both children in her peripheral vision.

Aren turned her eyes towards Charity, blinked in quiet puzzlement at her.
"My?"
My what? My sandbox? My mountain? She swiftly threw out the first idea, as it was just plain silly for someone to claim a sandbox. Why would they? And the mountain, well...she supposed that would make sense. Lots of people named things after themselves, so maybe she was planning on doing that.
"My mountain?"
She wanted to be sure, of course. It wouldn't be good if she meant something else entirely.
As they made holes in the mountain of sand, her gaze shifted back towards the mountain again. She wasn't interested in the holes, really - she was looking at the way the sand was shifting as they did so. She seemed more intrigued by the movement of the sand itself, then the other children.
Speculating quietly to herself on how sticky the sand was, she picked up a handful and then fluttered it down out of her hands, to see how fast the grains would fall.

Charity tilted her head, then shook it. "Myyy," she sighed again, then looked to Alexis as if for help.
"Hallo," he said obediently; he put one hand on his chest. "Lexis." Then he pointed to Charity. "Charidy." Let no one say he wasn't picking up on names, at least. "Hallo." He balled up some sand and offered it to Aren, staring at her rather the same way as the scary creature stared at him.
