Modesty is a huge issue for Latter-Day Saints, especially, it seems, the girls, these days, so I thought that it would be good for all the gals, and even the guys, to talk about their modesty woes, and for other people who have been there to offer helpful hints, so that modesty can become a little more easy for all of us.

Okay, me first:

I love the idea of layering immodest pieces to create a modest look (i.e: a low-cut shirt on top of a tank) But for me, this is not so easy. I can find long tanks in stores or on the internet, but this is not the problem. While not enormous, I have a good sized chest, and almost every tank that should work, doesn't because they always seem to work their way just a little too low...I want to be able to layer my clothing and still be able to bend over!

So my main question is: Are there any inexpensive tanks or camisoles that are a bit longer, making them good for layering, that will not sink low? I would especially love comments from other girls with my same build.

Can't help me here? Ask some questions of your own, and maybe I, or somebody else can help.

I can't help you with your problem, but here's something to make T-shirts modest if they're belly shirts or the sleeves are just a little to high.

(For belly) Find a good color of fabric that goes with your shirt. Can be anything, I prefer the actual T-shirt material. Then, find out how long you need or want it, and sew it to the bottom of the shirt (best place is to sew across the seam that's already there) Make it look like its a tank top or something that's hanging down. I've seen girls make ruffles and such as well. Its really cute!

(For sleeves) This also works if you have short sleeved shirts, and need some longer sleeved ones. Same as above, but make them sleeves, rather than a bottom. It looks like you're wearing layers! You can make the sleeves any length, but long or 3/4 looks best.

The only thing I can think to do about the tank, if it gets too low is to pin it to the inside of your shirt where you want it to stay.

With my figure, I have a lot more trouble finding shirts that are long enough.
Lately I've been wearing one of those nightgown-looking tops underneath them. It's pretty, it's silky, so it doesn't bunch up, and it adds another two inches to my tshirts.

i dont use this brand, but i've heard of shades...they sell modest undershirts, also i've found if you just get one, and pull it down low, tuck it into your pants..if your wearing a shorter shirt, put another one on top of that and pull it up. sure it gets hot sometimes..but i guess thats the price you gotta pay to keep modest

Go to Wal-Mart and get a pack of guys undershirts. Cheap and they go with anything as they are white. And they work like a charm

My sister doesn't like the fact that there are no modesty, nice, clothes out there... so she's studing to become a clothes designer and going to open a store with nice modest clothing to help the woman of the world! 3nodding

For me, though. I personaly have to problems with it, I'm not the type to like to wear tight shirts, belly shirts, low cut back shirt thingys, or even shorts for that matter. A long t-shirt and a pair of jeans will do for me.. every now and then a pair of capri's.

Well, guys actually have to deal with temptations (i don't really have a problem with that). I hope everyone can find what they want with modesty. Good luck

I know this might sound weird, but try maternity tanktops. They make them longer in the front than in the back, which means there is extra material to cover the bosoms (I speak from experience here!) I've got one that I got when I was actually pregnant, and I wear it all the time, because it's long enough to go to my hips, and it goes high enough to definately cover my garments.

Also, if you are getting the tanks with built in bras, cut the bra out - bigger chests will pull the tanks under the boobage. That's just the way physics of a big chest works.

Muahahahahahahahaha! (evil laugh of joy)

I went to Wal*Mart, but I didn't find much of anything good there...so I drove 25 minutes to get to the nearest Penny's...Gues what was way on sale? LONG t-shirts! I got a white and a brown one, and they should work almost as well as tanks! SWEET!

So has anybody else found it impossible to find jeans that aren't ugly, pre-worn, or way too low? Muahahahahahaha! (Another evil laugh of joy) at http://www.jenmagazine.com, my mom found this GREAT idea! We got a pair of low-rise jeans from Wal*Mart, then we went to Goodwill and got a pair of regular jeans that fit me int he waist. We cut the tops off of the Goodwill jeans and sewed them into the Wal*Mart ones, so now I have pants that look like I am wearing two pairs of pants! They are pretty sweet. Just thought I'd share, because that specific problem had been bugging me for a long time.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! I'm going to have to try some!

heh, i'm the same way, but since schools in session now, i just wear my uniforms all the time during the week, so modesty now's only an issue for me on saturdays, sundays, and other break times... our uniforms are modest, by the way, it's just the girls that alter them to make them different...
