Petition for a Games Subforum
fourtysecondscarf I have noticed that in the main forum, there are quite a few games. There are so many, that I think they deserve their own subforum. Perhaps, if not a new subforum, then moving them to the "Role Plays" subforum, and renaming it "Role Plays and Games" Eh? EH? *wiggles eyebrows* This was my original pitch for a games subforum in this guild. I would like to make a few more points on the subject. When you look at the front page, aside from stickies and announcements, all you see are games. It is difficult to find any actual discussion, and some really good threads are being lost in the mess.
Our mods have already decided against having a games subforum. The following was posted in reply to my post.LadyHealingHands No Games subforum. Both Kim and I want to keep the Games in the main Forum. I think a games subforum at this point would be a good idea. Before the seventh book, it wasn't as much of a problem because of all the theories, anticipation, and general talk about the Deathly Hallows. Even for a bit afterwards the discussion stayed alive with peoples reaction to the book, the movie, and what to do next.
Now, however, we have deteriorated to a guild of Harry Potter based games. I'm not saying that we should all keep discussing the seventh book and recycling old topics, I just think that having a games subforum would inspire people to ACTUALLY DISCUSS on the front page.
I love this guild, and I've been here for a reasonable amount of time, I think it would be a good improvement to the guild.
I'd like to know what you all think of the idea, and some of the pros and cons of keeping the games on the main forum. I am especially looking to KimCL and LadyHealingHands to give a good reason why not.
Please discuss.

Indeed. I agree whole-heartedly. I love this guild more than you all know, and I think a games subforum would keep it more organized. I love all the awesome games members create - and I participate in them often - but their popularity prevents discussion topics from surfacing in the main forum. Sometimes I'm in the mood to talk about Harry Potter more than play games based on it, and it takes me a good chunk of surfing time to find a good thread. Also, new games could drown and fail in the sea of the threads in our main forum. With a games subforum, new games could have their shot to make it big, because they'd be more visible. Overall, I just think a games subforum would makes things easier and more organized, and not effect the guild negatively at all. 3nodding

I agree. I'm semi-new to the guild, but all I have seen in the main forum are games and maybe one or two discussion threads.
I joined this guild for the discussion, not the games, so I wish there were an easier way to locate discussion without having to search through all the games.

I'm glad too see all of your opinions, and I especially thank Evasive Moon for her post. I'd still like to hear the opinion of our mods.... Any takers?

I agree with you and shall stand by your petition. Hopefully one of the mods will stop by and at least hear us out. I'd be willing to hear them out as well, because I really don't see the downside to a games subforum.

Neither do I, which is why I started this when the idea was debunked. I don't see why the need to be on the main forum, and I have already stated many as to why not.

Well, I'd like to point out that this isn't related to Harry Potter except for being part of the guild.
Anyway, I agree with you on the games sub form. I'll diffidently stand by you.

I think that the games should be organized more, but I wouldn't necessarily want a sub forum.
Pros:
It's Organized COULD promote Harry Potter discussions
Cons:
There never were too many Harry Potter discussions (when I looked back) I, for one, am too lazy to click on the sub forums (so I became less active on the Quidditch stuff) Games are such a big part, that if we put it into its own separate sub forum, then what's left (echoing Point 1 of the CON)
Although I lean towards the Pros, I'm WAY too lazy to actually click on the sub forums.
I'd rather move all the Harry Potter discussions and such into its own sub forum than the games.
That's my five cents.
As for my vote...you can include me in or out of the petition. I really don't care (as in you can include my "signature" if you want, but I'm not really...hyped up about it).

I know it says 'petition' but it's more of a discussion. And I know it's not "OMG HARRY POTTER" but it is a part of the guild, and I think thats okay...
As for being lazy, I know what you mean. It can be troublesome to go to a subforum, but it's also troublesome to find any actual discussion, which takes more time then just going to a subforum because you have to sift through all the games. There are a few which could stay, like the 'which would you marry' and the 'emporium' one, as well as a few that could be more discussion based, but I've noticed more discussion going on since I made this, so it's not like we would be abandoning the front page to rot.

But then, wouldn't it be better if we had a Harry Potter discussions exclusive forum? After all, there are less topics that concern discussions rather than games (and for the sake of mods).

One of the reasons I'm so intent to make a games subforum is because I fully believe that it will get people to discuss more on the front page.

Please discuss. Ok, im sorry but it's just not going to work. I've talked to a few mods, and we all say "nay." If we take the games out of the main forum, then the main forum will die. Before the games, there wasn't much discussion going on. Every once and awhile we have great debates and discussion going on, but mainly members enjoy the games the most. And that would just be one more button to click to get to where they want to go. I'm under the impression that not every single Gaia member has DSL or high speed internet. I know from experience that when I had dial up, it took ages to get where I needed to go. It just is not worth making a new subforum. We already have plenty, and we do not want to get cluttered and lost.
EDIT: As much as we love to hear your voice, we are moving this thread to the chatterbox. It is not a Harry Potter topic.
