Her last couple encounters, the last two beings she'd met, had unknowingly, accidentally, and wholly reminded her of her past. She'd tried to forget it with all her power, but she simply couldn't. Oh, how she wished she could. If she wasn't so stubborn and persistent, she figured she wouldn't be able to bear it and would jump into the raging winter sea to end her life, dashed against the rocks.

All the same, she was not suicidal and never would become so, therefore the thought to actually do so never once entered her mind.

She continued to plod along with her muzzle pointed down, brows furrowed, as she thought through her past. The main events, nothing trivial; meeting her crazy grandmother, meeting her one true friend, becoming blind, having Betel's skull shoved upon her, her crazy grandmother finally kicking the bucket, being pulled away from the rest of her family by her mother, returning to find her friend's lands in turmoil, and finally, finally....

"Mistress?"

His voice snapped her out of her reverie, though it didn't startle her; he'd been interrupting her thoughts occasionally for the sole purpose of ensuring she didn't run into anything or trip. "Yes, Betel?" She murmured, still staring down with brows furrowed.

"There's a large raspberry bush about four yards straight ahead and a little to the right."

"Thank you, Betel."

Each step the white stallion took was graceful and only broke a few blades of grass. His thoughts were always on those of the past and of the time but never on the future and rarely the present. Most times he forgot that he was even alive or that there were others alive other then him. His wings he held up high and proud as he walked his graceful walk and his thoughts of time and past. Even though he was old he still felt young and proud.

He had no idea how old he was. One of his status paid no mind to petty things such as age. Age really had no meaning when you were the caretaker of time. He couldn't even remember how he ended up being caretaker of time. As long as he could remember he had always been called Fathertime. With his thoughts on the past he failed to see the one in the distance.

Bella continued, measuring out her paces carefully and absentmindedly; such was the effect of being blind for so long. She ambled around the bush slowly, shuffling her leather wings a bit to settle them more comfortably on her back. She didn't even notice the dusting of snow on the ground as she walked, so lost was she in her thoughts.

Betel, however, noticed more. He spotted Jasper not too far ahead and hesitated, wondering if he should describe the white Ichsa to Bella. ..no, no, she didn't need that, not right now. "Mistress," he began, making sure he had her attention before continuing.

"Yes, Betel?" She murmured again, brows relaxing as she continued to stare blankly at where the ground was that she could not see.

"There's a stallion up ahead, an Ichsa stallion. Seems to be thinking to himself, I think," he explained. She didn't need to know the color.

"Well, he can keep to his thoughts if he wants," she mused aloud, lifting her head a bit and shaking off. "I know how nice it is to remain in the past."

"Yes, Mistress.." He murmured, knowing precisely what she was talking about. His poor mistress...

The caretaker of time continued his graceful walk as he continued his thoughts. He tried to remember his childhood but failed to remember one. Being as old as time made one's memory forget so far back in time. He struggled to even remember if he had ever been a child but failed to see his childhood image. A sigh escaped his mouth as he broke out of thought just long enough to look around the area. It seemed void of anything other then plant life until a few moments later he spotted someone in the now near distance.

"Perhaps maybe...some company would be nice for a change." His voice low and also seemingly graceful as he spoke to himself. Instead of his long stride as what he had been doing before he changed it to a more slow small stride which was just as equally graceful. He slowly made his way over to the other and awaited for her to notice him with his wings held proud and his movement graceful not knowing that she was blind.

The old tan paint couldn't be considered graceful, at least in her own mind, but it wasn't like it mattered. The only thing that mattered was living to see the next day by not tripping over everything or falling off a cliff. That was always scary.

However, being blind, she didn't see the old coot's attempts at being graceful. Even if she had, there was only one creature that could ever be considered the epitome and quintessence of grace, and she was gone. And yet she continued to live, and walk towards the Ichsa whom she couldn't see.

"Mistress," Betel began, flitting by her ear. "He is several yards ahead of you, I believe he wishes to speak with you."

"Well," she started, flicking her ears a bit. She figured the stallion would hear her speaking to, as he would probably assume, nothing, and either flee or speak. "If he wants to talk to me, then he'll have to come over and say something. I don't even know where the hell he is."

The stallion shook his head as he heard the other speak but it seemed she wasn't speaking to him. There was no one else around at least from what he could see though now he finally noticed that her eyes held no sight. "Excuse me m'lady. I'm just a few feet in front of you." He said as he lowered himself in a graceful bow. "I don't know who you were talking to but may I ask you as to what your name is?" he asked raising himself back up.

She paused in mid-step and after a moment, replaced her thick hoof on the ground, offering him a snort. Finally, there he goes. "Bellatrix," she offered, canting her head to the side and staring off with blank, white eyes. "I'm no lady, either. Anyone but Betelgeuse can attest to that." She paused here, flicking her ears a bit and twitching her tail. "Who're you?"

Betel flitted to her ear, obviously irritated at this. "Of course you're a lady, Mistress! Anyone can see that! You are--"

"Shut it, Betel!" The mare snapped, pinning her ears back and glaring at her left.

"But Mistress!" From her right.

"I didn't ask for your input!" She snapped to her right. Oh, how he loved to torment her by switching sides constantly. a**.

Fathertime watched the mare talk to the air but made no mention of it. "Bellatrix. Such a nice name." He said with a nod stretching his wings out. "I have been given many names. I'm the keepr of time, the caretaker of time, Fathertime, and many others. I go by the name Jasper usually though." He explained as he began to ponder over how long he had been keeper of time. "But anyways you may not call yourself a lady but to others you seem to be an extraordinary lady if you don't mind me saying." His voice had the flow of politeness as he spoke.

"Thanks," she muttered. Seriously, why would she give a damn if someone else thought her name sounded nice?

Blahblahblah Jasper blahblah... was all that she heard, so she shook herself off and snorted. "Jasper, alright then." Ugh, why did he insist upon this 'lady' crap? She was blind, old, alone except for Betel (and he didn't count for much), and crazy in the eyes of others, and she was not a lady. But, extraordinary? She hadn't heard that term for a while, and she canted her head to the side. "...and why, good sir," she put emphasis and a strange inflection in the word, "would you call me extraordinary?"

"Because you are, Mistress!" But his insisting comments fell on deaf ears.

Looking closer at the mare he noticed the skull around the mare's neck. "You're extraordinary because you're a speaker are you not?" He asked his eyes taking in a closer look of the skull. He had seen it a long long time around another mare's neck and he had been told then that she had been a speaker. Though now he wondered if it was the same skull that had been around the other's neck and if it was...if it was the same occupant that had been supposedly attached to it. His mind drifted back into the past forgetting that he was in the company of another as he thought long and hard about the skull.

Did he just... She glared. How in the hell did he know that? How? Lucky guess, maybe? ...though, perhaps, maybe not so lucky; perhaps he knew. Heard it from someone, perhaps? But.. how?

Betel seemed rather lost for words as well, though he kind of recognized the clock around the stallion's neck. "Mistress!" He said eagerly, figuring it out and flitting to her ear. "Mistress, I remember him! I saw him once when I was serving your grandmother in her earlier years!"

"Really, now?" She said, still glaring at where the voice of Jasper was. "So tell me Jasper, how do you know I'm a speaker?"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 27, 2008 8:43 pm

Snapping back out of his thoughts he shook his head slightly. "How do I know that you're a speaker? Because you wear the skull that was another's when she was alive." He said his voice almost eerie. "Also a tremor in the time occurred when there was a new speaker in the lands. It was only time before I met you." He glanced at the ground before looking back up. "Perhaps you were related to the last speaker whose skull you wear." His wings were now folded along his back as he stared at the skull. "I'm also assuming as that's the same skull that it still has the same occupant does it not?"

She narrowed her eyes, quite suspicious of this newcomer, but merely snorted, flattening her ears to her head. "My grandmother," she said flatly. "Crazy b***h who was only looking for the next speaker in our lines to appear before she up and died. Talked about having an heir and all this other crap."

"And of course it has the same occupant," she said after a short pause. Honestly, what the hell kind of statement was that? "The occupant was the owner of the skull before it died. I don't know how long ago, or how his skull got so clean, or anything else, but yes, same occupant. That won't change until the skull is destroyed." She ignored Betel's whimper at her last statement.

"Ah yes. Your grandmother. You do seem much more calmer then her if I do say so." Jasper said with a twitch of his tail. He walked around the mare to stretch his legs from standing still for awhile. "So the occupant stays the same does it? Betelgeuse is it? Well it's nice to well not see you again." he said as he stood back in front of the speaker once more. "I do believe though that you are more powerful then your grandmother."

Her eyes remained narrow in suspicion, not quite sure just how this stranger knew anything about her, her grandmother, or Betel. Especially Betel. "She was crazy," Bella said bluntly. And she was, of course. Crazy as in a few branches short of a tree, and crazy as in obsessed with fulfilling her purposeless and selfish schemes and plots. "I'm glad she's dead."

"He spoke to me, Mistress! He actually spoke to me!!" The 'nice to not see you again' went completely over his head, as he interpreted it as him being invisible. He didn't even think it could mean the old-timer was actually glad to not see him.

"Why do you say I'm more powerful than she was?" Now this was interesting. She'd like to know this old coot's reasoning. How was it he thought she was more powerful? He hadn't even witnessed her speaking skills. Well, not like anyone could actually see such a thing, but still.
