So, every fish species has it's favorite snack, some even have individual preferences.
With my comets it's sweet peas and tubifex. The large female loves sweet peas most, she will get downright aggressive at times to get as much as she can. The male loves tubifex most, somehow it actually seems to work as some sort of aphrodisiac on him, since he will continuously try to mate the two females after eating it. The smaller female doesn't really have a distinct preference as far as I know.
Flakes for Discussion: So, what's your fish's favorite? What food alters your fishes behavior? Which snack do you prefer giving your fish and why? Is tubifex a common 'fish aphrodisiac', or is my Shylock just a weird one?
Edit: I've decided to make a list of fish snacks so people can look it up and easily pick out a snack for their fish. I'm putting the usernames behind the food so you can see how many people have had similar experiences.
Edit: The Legend Green; Food with positive feedback only, and/or something that's healthy for the fish. Orange; Food with contradicting feedback, or something that may be unhealthy. Red; Food with negative feedback, or stuff that's unhealthy.

my fishy that just died was a keen lover of peas. I use to skin it and mush it up and feed it. The little guy would zoom around the tank chasing after the larger peices.
I really hope that's not what caused it to get sick... sad

Aww, my sincerest condolences sad Ive never heard of golds getting sick from peas though. They were cooked right?
I often get angry at my dad when he tries to feed my fish live ants, I'm so afraid the ant would bite the fish's insides and cause an infection or something. Thank goodness the golds seem to know what's good for them and don't bother with the ants. It does give me annoying extra cleaning work. stare

My Bettas all go crazy over teeny Endler babies, my loaches are nuts for snails, and my Gouramis love flies.

Awww, poor endlers XD I had always wanted a few, just to try my hand at them. Though come to think of it, my Labeos used to love small male guppies.
My gouramies never got a taste for flies, they would just kill them and leave it there, even the small ones. My angels did like them though.

I think his thought probably go along the lines of; fish eat bugs, ants are bugs, fish eat ants. sweatdrop I'm sure some fish wouldn't mind a small ant, but in my opinion you do not give a gold one of those ants flying ants, you know, the yellow ones with a stinger? >.<
Actually, I just dumped a small piece of chocolate ice cream in on a whim sweatdrop They love ice cubes, and pearently they don't mind ice cubes with a flavor XD
I guess I just put too much weirdness in there. I've even tried to see what they think of lemon juice once. redface Maybe I'm not the best fish owner sweatdrop

I'm afraid to put the food I eat into the tank. I don't want my fish to die, since I'm still a beginner of fish care.

Thanks for the lettuce. I've heard a lot of people seem to have problems with keeping their Ottos from starving. I've never kept them myself though, so i wouldn't know.
Do you breed the brine shrimps yourself? I remember doing that for a while, but it's such a hassle >.<

The following fish of mine will literally DEVOUR frozen bloodworms:
Guppies Neon tetras Gold tetras Zebra danios Orange platies Gray Mickey-mouse platies Bettas Convict cichlids (I got rid of them a week ago)
I also came to discover that Convicts can and will eat the little green balls that come from broccoli, along with crushed peas (minus the skin--choking hazard).

Thanks for the input Fallaryn biggrin You got rid of the convicts? Why though?
Oh and I tried the broccoli thing with my golds yesterday. But they weren't exactly thrilled. They ate it once they realized that that was dinner for the day, but they were much more exited with the daily flakes. I wonder if they're like spoiled kids.... =/
