I absolutely hate when I see that small sticker on the cover: Now a Major Motion Picture!
So far, only Narnia has been made into movie magic, mostly because it was just so beautiful to look at.
Eragon was horrendous, so much so that my one die-hard Eragon fan friend was complaining throughout the entire movie.
Ella Enchanted... I could see from the very previews they ruined it.
Blood and Chocolate. I looked up some screen shots, and they have butchered the book. They turn into actual wolves (when the book states that they do not), and the entire story takes place in England. They moved the storyline to an entirely different country. -_-;;
Come, complain about the movie industry! XD

I understand. I really dislike most movies made from books. Bridge to Teribithia wasn't too bad of a representation, neither was Narnia. As for most others, well they spoil the plot, the characters, and the feeling. I don't like it. I just don't like it!

I don't mind too much when they change small details. It is understandable if you look at the fact that they have to cram everything into such a short time.
What is utterly unforgivable in my opinion, is when the movie depends on the book. That is what happened with Eregon and is starting to happen to Harry Potter. Major plot holes are simply left to be, because it is assumed that if you are watching the movie you must have read the book. Not true! I saw Eregon and it was completely confusing because I had not read the book, the movie could have been quite good, there were great things in it. But it made no sense.
I saw Ella Enchanted and had read the book beforehand. It is true that they changed a lot and it barely held the same tone as the book, but if you regarded the movie as a separate entity from the book, it wasn't half-bad. Not as good as the book, but enjoyable nonetheless.
There are however, some film-makers that truely deserve to be recognized for their wonderful depictions of the books, Lord of the Rings being foremost of these in my mind. The movies were not perfect, having to operate in time constraints, but they were all loyal to the book. Same goes for the Narnia movie (which I confess I love).
Tuck Everlasting was another that I found to be quite enjoyable. I saw the movie a long time after having read the book, so I cannot recall how accurate it was. I have a feeling that quite a lot changed, but it was a nice movie.
But I completely agree that the "Major Motion Picture" stickers on books put a sense of dread in my heart. Especially when they come out with new covers featuring the cast of the movie... absolutely terrifying.
((That was a rather long-winded way of saying that I both like and dislike "based on the book" movies, and will probably never be able to totally go with one and completely forgo the other. I will alos be likely to forever talk in circles around the subject razz ))

I somewhat hate changes from the book no matter what, but I can deal if they aren't major or are understandable.
Like the changes in IT are completely understandable. I mean IT is 1090 pages long. There's no way you could make a movie out of that and keep everything. There are parts that I read and was like, "Ah! I wish that had been in the movie," but it's understandable that it wasn't.
The one movie based on a book that puts me into a major rage is The Queen of the Damned. They didn't even ******** attempt to try! It's pathetic. It's even worse because they tried to combine The Vampire Lestst with The Queen of the Damned. They completely cut Louis, Magnus, and the story of the sisters out. I almost cried out of anger at that movie. They even had the audacity to hook up Lestst and Jesse. If it had been a movie without a book, though, it would have been good. I loved how they portrayed the Lestat's band, though. Great music. Sucky movie, great music.

To make a book into a movie is like killing it most of the time I liked lotr though but apart from that... I don't like the narnia movie, harry potter, Eragon (trowing up) but I think it's the same when they make a movie into a book it totally ruins the movie so it goes both ways

I loved LOTR, they may have cut holes in the plot, but when they did slice bits out they made sure to cover their tracks so it looked like that part never happend, Tom Bombedil for example ( this will win you massive points in LOTR trivia when you are playing with someone who is just a fan of the movie!).
However I don't think the sticker is what kills the books. Just because I see a sticker that says "now a major motion picture" it dosn't bother me. It's when I see a cover that was obviously made to be a DVD cover that pisses me off. Howls Moving Castle for example, yes they shot the book to pieces when they made it into an anime, but they didn't change the book cover, ever. So When I read it (after I saw the movie) I didn't think "Wow they slaughtered the book" I thaught "The movie was nice, stand alone, and kept the same feal as the book in general, dispite them changing everything, but I like the book a little better" Sometimes I don't even notace the sticker :: totaly picks up books and reads the back first, ignoring the cover::.

I'm definately not enjoying the "turn every book into a movie" fad. I think children's books would make good movies, but only on a critical thinking basis. Think of it this way: you get a small child to read a book, and after they are finished they get to watch the movie. Now you have the opportunity to get the child thinking about what was different, what was the same, etc. It's that kind of thinking at a young age that gets children excited about reading.
However, for books meant for older viewers, I think it's pure laziness. xd

Eragon... stressed I loved the book & I absolutely HATED the movie. They left out about half of the book! The Harry Potter movies are pretty good, but I hated how they left out the part Umbridge kicked Harry, Fred & George from the Gryffindor Quidditch Team in the OoP & they've cut out Pigwideon. I guess I seem to have my likes & dislikes on this topic. confused

I understand why they didn't put her in, but still, such a cute little creature.

We could have used Peeves for a little comic relief in the fifth movie.

I remember that, too! I had wondered how they would make him look, and waited throughout the entire movie for him to appear.

I could never understand people that hate movies based on books because they didn't represent the book correctly confused
Oh, I understand where they're coming from, but for some reason I just can't personally relate For some reason when I watch a movie based on something I automatically think of the two as completely diffrent stories, that way no matter how horrible the movie might have been as far as the origonal book is concern I still enjoy it as a movie (if it was in fact good)
In fact, movies based on books often are what prompt me to reading said book after years of putting it aside, or sometimes I never even know about the book and they make me look into it. Like 'Princess Bride', many still don't know that that was based on a book... (that was based on a book)
What annoys me is when people (not any of you mind you) veiw the fact that they hated the movie when they loved the book as evidince that they're 'bigger fans' of the book and try to hold it over the heads of other fans. Or even worst try to belittle fans that also happened to like the movie mad

I feel you pain. Only about 1 in 10 of all the books-to-movies I've ever seen have been worthy.
The only thing movies have over books is music.

True, very true. I love the soundtrack for the third Harry Potter movie. John Williams is so wonderful!
