Jampo was on his back, forelimbs crossed leisurely in front of him, back legs askew, watching the light dapple through the treetops. He didn't have much to do most days. He hunted when they told him to hunt, sometimes he chatted with the males, and at night he slept. But rarely was there any purpose he was pressed to fulfill; so, he basically spent the day lounging and daydreaming.

He always stayed in the male's part of the camp unless he was hunting - those were the rules, and he didn't want to get any females mad at him.

They were scary, they were. Even to an unusually giant-sized lion such as himself. Jampo was much too laid-back for their ways, and so he was content with staying put. It was nicer this way, he thought. He could do whatever he wanted and not get yelled at or have to worry about fighting. Life may be lonely, but it was at least easy.

User ImageKoi could not help but avoid her sister. Not when the sad sad truth was that... Koi was the only one. Her sister hadn't said anything about it... but Koi noted a different shape to her... her sister acted diffrent... and she could tell. She could tell that cubs were on the way. That was the sad sad fact. Koi was probably the only one who couldn't have cubs, out of her two sisters... so now... Koi had this horrible feeling that... her other sister could have cubs too...

She was the only one.

She didn't want to see her sisters today... she just wanted to think for a while. She had padded for a while... before she came too the border... where the males and females did not coexist. But as soon as she stepped over the border... she felt better as soon as her paws hit the earth. She sighed, blinking her purple eyes.

She lifted her head to see the salmony colored Jampo lazing. She smiled... clearing her throat to announce her presence.

((I figure we will play it off as if they know each other. ^^ If thats okay...

((Sure, that's fine. But Jampo is a bit slow so he won't know much about her, and he is afraid of girls, so he'll be timid until he realizes she isn't going to yell at him lol.))

Now, Jampo rarely ever moved fast. Even when he was chasing down prey, it took a lot of energy to move his large frame. When he heard that noise that alerted him to another presence, at first he only turned his head leisurely to the side to see which male had happened upon him.

But when he saw it was not one of his friends at all, but a female, his massive bulk jerked in some sort of effort to make himself upright. He rarely saw females nowadays, but this one was vaguely familiar. She was a pride member, no doubt about that. But his brain had difficulty holding onto to detailed information - like what her name was.

And he was just so suprised to see a girl that he didn't know what to say. He hadn't seen one in...oh, it was so long ago he couldn't even remember. Jampo had even tried to stay away from them, in case they wanted to tell at him or something. They were unpredictable, these females were. He waited for her to speak, not wanting to anger her.

Koi could not help but stiffle a giggle at his response to seeing she was female. There were a few males that did that currently... She smiled and shook her head, not wanting him to get overly freaked out. She knew the males sometimes didn't get to see females as often as they'd like.. but those were the ways. Today... she felt like having the company of someone who -wasn't female- and -couldn't have cubs- and -accidentally/without trying/rub it in someones face-. She was confidant that she would not feel the pressures she felt around the females.

Being that Koi was sterile.

Oh, Jampo. Don't worry about it... You don't have to act as though you are to tend to me. I am in the male half of the pride. I request nothing more than some company...

If that is okay with you.
She said, sitting down and curling her parted tail over her paws. She blinked her purple eyes and tried to not look intimidating

It took Jampo a while to recover from the surprise, and in the meantime he stared dumbly at her. Why would a female want his company? That had never, never happened before. None of the females had ever approached him even to talk. Was this a trick? Was she making fun of him? Jampo had a bit of a thick skull, so he wasn't very good at deducing her intentions.

Still, he was supposed to do what she said. Apparently she knew his name - Jampo probably had learned hers at some point or other but could never keep track of these things - so maybe it'd be okay. Jampo was awfully lonely, after all, and he didn't exactly have any plans of how to spend the rest of the day other than cloud-watching on his back.

"Uhhm..." he began to say in his slow, drawling voice. "Ok." He didn't know what she meant by wanting company. He didn't want to assume his wish had come true and she had come here to tell him she had chosen him to breed with her. No. That probably wasn't it. So what did she want to do then?

Of course he didn't even consider the fact that he might so no to her. So, not knowing what she wanted, he waited for her to tell him what to do.

Koi suspected that he would be a bit uncomfortable... but tonight she decided that the company of someone would at least listen to her... was comforting. The funny thing was... she wasn't one for waltzing up to one of hte males and stating her idea's and asking their opinions but... she sought the company of another... at least one that wasn't one of her direct family.

I just... need to talk to someone who won't judge me as a female and as my ranking. I just need. Someone to listen.

I think... I think my sister Gurami is having cubs soon... and if she does... I think may need-
She paused, gazing down at the ground deep in thought.

I may need to take a long walk... for a few days... to clear my head.

Oh, listening. Jampo could do that. He wasn't so good at the talking thing anyway. And of course he wouldn't judge her. After all, wasn't she higher up than he was? He didn't have any reason to make fun of her or call her names.

No matter how nice the lady seemed, the burly lion was still quite nervous about her. Oh! Koi! That was her name. It just suddenly dawned on him.

He smiled then, proud he had remembered it. "Hullo Koi," he said cheerily, quite belated. But then her words sunk into his head. "Oh...your sister is having babies soon den?" He felt a bit of a jealous pang, but pushed it away. "Why that make you sad, huh?"

He settled back down on his haunches to listen.

Koi gazed down at her feet with a very sad look. Talking to males was sometimes difficult. Just for the fact that... well... males often had no right to tell a female anything that may offend her... or such. But hopefully this male... would not do anything to anger her-though she felt very little incentive to be putting him in his place if he did.

You see. I am the oldest of us the three sisters... and Gurami is the first to have children... and I am afraid that when my other sister Mono has cubs... my secret will be out... and I will be the only cousin to the queen who hasn't given birth.

I am afraid I am the only one who can't have children.
SHe said, pulling her paws up tighter against her chest. It felt weird... talking to a male about such things. But afterall, the males knew a bit more than the females about rearing and such... but females-knew more about the whole pregnancy factor... and Koi knew how sad it could be that the mother could not

I suppose I am worrying about something so minor... but it feels so important...

Women's troubles were way out of Jampo's league. He had no idea why Koi would confide in him, but he didn't mind listening at all. It certainly was an interesting diversion from his usual afternoon activities. And he wanted to try and help too, if he could. Poor lady seemed sad!

Oh, and it was even sadder when she said she couldn't have children. How horrible! Jampo thought cubbies were the cutest things ever, and his biggest dream in life was to have some of his own one day. For a moment he was able to glimpse the depth of Koi's sadness and he felt for her.

"That's bad," Jampo promptly but sadly replied, his voice sympathetic. "Sorry, sorry thing that is. Can't imagine somethin' more bad den dat." He wasn't much practiced in comforting others, though, so once he had said that little piece he sat uncomfortably, trying to think.

"Why you think that? You try'n have cubbies before? Didn't work?" Sad as this situation was, Jampo couldn't help but wonder who her maybe-mate was.

Koi gazed sadly at the male. In her heart... she felt that her honor was at stake in some way. A females job was to bring life into the world... and yet-she could not do that. She sighed, placing her paws back on the ground... she felt childish with her paws against her chest like that. She blinked her purple eyes at him.

I suppose it isn't that bad... but... it is still terribly depressing-since my younger sister is going to have cubs soon... She said, gazing absently off in the distance. She supposed she would be leading poor Jampo towards an idea that would not be really happening. She hoped that she wasn't leading him on-that was hte last thing she wanted to do to him.

Erm... Yes. I met a rouge. Back when I was a foolish girl... and we tried-he left me... and did not join the pride... because of it. In some ways... i think it was because he would not he accepted well into the pride-he thought diffrently than you and me. But I was an idiot and fell for him instantly.

Sadly, he left me-but... no one knows of him... I kept it secret all this time.

Jampo nodded once again sympathetically, wishing he knew something to say. He tried to figure out a way to mention his desire to have cubs too, but...it was too awkward to tell to a girl.

"Must be mighty hard keepin' such a secret from everyone," Jampo commiserated in his slow drawl. "And I don't think you're any kind of idiot. Don't it make yeh feel any better for gettin' it out in the open air?" He sure hoped so.

"Mebbe yer luck will improve, yeah? I'm sure it will. You just gotta wait for the right time, and it'll happen. No sense goin' on worryin' bout it. You just be happy for your sister, and one o' these days it'll be yer turn. You just wait and see. Everythin' will turn out right good, I s'pose."

That was a lot for the male to say, and it took quite a bit out of him to do so. He didn't know what made him so brazen to give advice to a female, but she did just seem so sad and he wanted to help.

Koi apprecaited the males words. He was right... telling someone did make her feel more at ease. And she knew that he wouldn't dare spill any of her words, for fear of the punishment she would ensue. Smiled at him and stood up, tossing her head fluff from her forehead.

It was hard... but I think now is the time I should tell my sisters. She said, turning away and starting to walk away from Jampo. He was right... and she would not be sad or regretful anymore... afterall... what happened was meant to be-perhaps.

Thank you for your advice Jampo... I really apprecaite it... but now I must be on my way... My sister needs my guidance...

Keep yourself out of mischeif Jampo...
She added before turning away and dissapearing back into the female territory.

He nodded his big furry head. "Good for you, then." He knew that was probably a good thing for her to do. But it didn't really affect him. So.

Her kind words made him feel kinda good about himself, but he didn't really know what he did to help. He just said what he thought she wanted to hear. Because of course he didn't think he knew anything that she didn't know; she just needed someone to tell her so she'd believe it.

"Oh, um..." Jampo watched her go. "Okay. Bye then." Jampo didn't get into mischeif; he was a good male, he was. So he didn't need to worry about that.

He watched her go for a minute. Then he sighed and flopped back down onto the grass for another lazy afternoon of cloud-watching.
