With a vigorous shake, Hephaestus let his fluffed fur gather what little warmth the sun offered and set off on his daily trek around his territory, snow crunching loudly under his paws.
As usual, he started in the northeastern corner and worked his way west, the lone mountain a towering companion in the distance. As the trees thinned and he found himself looking out over the western plains, stretching vast and frozen into the horizon, he pointed his nose south, keeping the trees on his left.
Even though he made this trek nearly every day, every time his paws stopped on the edge of the earth at the southernmost border of his land, and he looked down at the forest stretching below him, he stood in awe at the beauty, sometimes gazing out at the world for an hour or more. But eventually, he always started again, going east.
As soon as he hit the river, he watched as it cascaded over the sudden drop in a brilliant, arcing waterfall that roared eternally like some ravenous beast. Smiling at the beauty of his land, he turned north, back towards his starting point.
Nothing had been out of the ordainary the entire trek, as usual. Few wolves came this far up. But then he stopped, a stray wind sending the scent of another creature into his nose. He stood there, trying to catch as much of the smell as possible.
It was another wolf, but young. Was it near the river?
Worried, he started searching the bank, hoping a pup hadn't gotten washed downstream from somewhere farther north.

A usually fluffy green coated pup was curled in the snow close to the river. She was shivering and soaked to the bone. She had fallen in after some dogs found the den. She had been seperated and chased into the waters. Not being in the river's fastmoving grasp for too long, she wasn't too close to death.
Shivering and trembling, the green female weakly lifted her head up. She scented something, a certian something that was feintly filmier, yet she couldn't put a paw on it. Wimpering, she gave up and loward her head back to the snow, defeated.
((Sorry for any mistakes, still sick))

Seeing the small movement out of the corner of his eye, Hephaestus leapt down a small incline, landing beside the bedraggled pup. He hoped he wouldn't frighten her; compared to his enormous size, the shivering little femme seemed so very, very small.
Nosing her, he licked behind her ears, hoping for some response. She was still breathing, but her shivering made it difficult to see how well.
And she was so cold . . .
"Little one . . . Little one, can you hear me?" the big alpha questioned softly, continuing to lick the water from her in an attempt to dry her soaking wet fur. His innate parental instincts kicked in and he settled his body beside hers, fluffing his fur again and nudging her against his chest, hoping his body heat could keep her from dying.

Suddenly the weird smell was all over. Opening her yellowish eyes, Tawariel glanced around her. She could hear the river and see a few small trees. Lokking behind her, all she saw was black. "What? Where?" she yelped attempting to scramble to her paws only to be foiled by gravity. She crashed back down into the soft black mass. She was weak, almost frozen, and dizzy.
The black thing was moving? Sniffing it, she found the source of the scent that had been bothering her. A giant black wolf was laying next to her! "Who?" she wimpered. Being as cold as she was, she didn't try to run from the warmth the scary giant was offering.

At her whimper, Heph licked her wet ears and nuzzled his cheek against hers. "It's alright, little one. I won't hurt you. My name's Heph . . . I'll keep you safe . . . "
She was still shaking, and he supposed it could be from both the cold, and weakness. Wanting to get her someplace warm as fast as possible, he closed his teeth very gently around the scruff of her neck, and headed Northwest, towards the winter den in the middle of the territory.
He hoped she wouldn't panic and try to get away. It would make things difficult.

Automaticly, the green pup curled up into a furry bundle easy for carrying. "Where are you taking me Mister He...Hep... Giant?" she asked licking her jaws with uneasiness. Her tail quivered close to her belly. She was a little bit afraid, but this big, furry, black giant seemed nice. He smelled of other wolves too. A pack maybe?

He fought back a chuckle at the nickname and swiveled his ears around, his eyes constantly roaming over his lands as his paws ate away the distance to the den.
"Someplace warm," he tried to say without moving his jaws, not wanting to drop her. It came out a little muffled, but he was fairly certain she understood what he had tried to say.
He just hoped Athena wouldn't be there. This little pup could only take so much cold, and wherever his sister went, blizzards, metaphorically, seemed to follow.

Tawa curled up as close to a ball as she could to make transporting her a bit easier. She watched silently as trees and brush went by. She had no clue where she was going or what awaited her at the end of her journey.
"Mr. Giant?" she finally asked lowering her ears out of respect, "I know we are going someplace warm, but where? Is it your home? Are there others there? You smell like others." She gave her tail a single wag to show her good will towards her savior and reached up to lick his muzzle. She was a bit hungry, but didn't expect anything from the giant of a wolf. What was he to do with her when they got to where they were traveling?

This time he did chuckle, and picked up his pace a bit, eager to get back to the den himself and to introduce the shivering pup to his family.
"My home, yes. And others, also yes," he said, his words becoming less jumbled and easier to understand the more he practiced speaking them with a furry object in his jaws.
"My mother, and sons," he added, but neglected to mention Athena in hopes that she wouldn't be there anyway. "We'll get you warmed up and fed in no time, little one."

The young pup nodded her thanks and kept staring straight ahead. All the new scents scared her, but she did not whine. She knew that this giant of a wolf carring her would keep her safe. Like what father did before she got lost.
"Mr. Giant?" she asked looking up at him innocently, "Do you know my daddy? Do you know where 'home' is?" Deep within her she knew, there was no returning to home. She would never see her family again. She blamed the river. Maybe home was with the wolf that cradled her small green body between his jaws?

Hephaestus felt a pang in his heart and he stayed silent for many moments, contemplating how best to answer, letting his thoughts gather as he jogged.
Suddenly he stopped, setting her carefully on the ground. His tongue swept over her damp fur in long strides, at once drying and warming her up. Being wet in this cold weather was dangerous indeed, and he would do everything in his power to keep her safe.
He met her gaze, his eyes sad. "Little one, I do not know your daddy, or where your home is. But I offer my home to you. My family is yours, if you wish it."

Tawa stared up at the male, thought flashing behind her golden eyes. One of her ears went back and her tail gave a long swish. She held the alpha's gaze before saying, "I will go home with you, Mr. Giant."
She shook off his tongue feeling much warmer and a bit better. Her tail wagging, she bounded off a few steps and looked back at him, spanking the ground with her paws.
"It will be fun!" she yelped, tongue lolling out of the side of her small jaws.

Hephaestus barked out a laugh, following the little green pup with a spring in his own step. Pups always made him feel so alive, and he felt the grin stretched his maw as the two ran, eager to reach the warmth and comfort of home.FIN
