They piss me off. Like, really. They give us good percussionists a bad name. And there's more of them then percussionists who care and really try. They piss my friends off, too.

The majority of percussionists are idiots, but I do know a few good ones. The amazing jerk-ness of the others simply tend to overshadow the good ones.

Well, letsee. The drum room is used for moshing. And they pee in bottles and leave them in the drum room hoping someone will drink it.
So yeah, you can make your own conclusions out of that. But they do know how to have a hella rave in the parking lot. o:

There was this kid that was really good at quads. Then he graduated and this kid who couldn't care less how to play quads came along. The quads pretty much start a few of our cheers at football games, and since this kid couldn't care less everyone was getting mad that someone who sucked that badly.

I find this thread pretty funny, considering the fact that my boyfriend is a percussionist.
He fools around, yes, but he's the most hard-wokring and serious player in the band.
Honestly, if you look at him while he's playing the timpani/snare, he has this look on his face, like he's really enjoying it.
He has the biggest parts in the songs/concerts, and he likes to show off to me.
He's also in Drumline for ROTC.

Dumb percussion stories? Sorry, have to many.
Basically, our percussion, SUCKS. They can't even play a very simple part of music, plus they can't come in when their suppose to.

Music teacher has entered the room. Make sure your pencils are handy.
First of all, I'm not mod, but evabigfoot, I suggest you lighten up on the flaming. It makes you look like an idiot without being able to back up your own claims. Yes, your drumline may be good, but others simply may not perform or behave to the same caliber. That is what this thread is designed to discuss. Also take note that this is not a particularly literate guild, so if you are thirsty for literacy, go to a literate guild.
"I will respect every individual until someone gives me a reason to do otherwise." That is part of my own personal teaching philosophy. You have proven yourself as someone to make me do otherwise.
*cough*
Onto percussion sections... *clears throat*
Let me announce that I love percussion, drumlines, drummers, and everything else that I forgot to mention. There are some truly talented and skillful percussionists in the world, and I have been graced to have worked and played alongside with a handful of them. I simply cannot imagine Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony with anything less than a perfect timpani part.
However, middleschool and highschool percussion classes are certainly a handful for a music teacher at times.
I was filling in for a local band director (even though I am a strings concentration, but that's okay; I was prepared for band classes during my college education) while he and his assistant went to the VMEA conference. Every class went extraordinarily smooth, only with the exception of the percussion class. Out of ten, three students were very focused and seriously trying to learn their parts for the upcoming concert. However, I could not take the time to praise them for that fact simply due to the other seven constantly asking where we were, incessant talking, unrelated-playing on instruments that were not suppose to be out to begin with, and other class-disrupting antics. I swear I took more time telling them to put their sticks in their armpits (a tactic I made up on the spot to keep them from using them to band on things, like each other's heads) and to keep them there instead of actual playing and rehearsing.
I tried every trick in my book to bring focus back to the repertoire, but nothing worked. At the end of my day, I labeled that period an official music director nightmare (and no, they were not prepared for their concert).

My percussion section's fine... sometimes. Then we get times where they talk and don't listen to announcements, then ask ME what they were when I could barely hear. Oh, and occasionally they'll come late to call time, or just not show up. It's so annoying.

Alright, there's this one kid in my school band and he's a percussionist. He's a little a*****e freshman and thinks he's cool s**t because he plays hockey too. My conductor like... hates him and by the end of the year he'll probably kick him out. Anyway, so this d**k steals my sheetmusic, and the other sheetmusic of the rest of the percussionist. He whines and complains when he has to play anything other than drum kit (We rotate the percussion pieces so nobody has to play Auxillary/Bass Drum constantly). Basically me and the rest of the percussionists are going to kick his a**.
