Father wasn't far, of that he was certain. If it wasn't father than it was mother, always nearby, always watching. They seemed to be concerned about something but what that was? He had no idea. He was enjoying being away from it at the moment though... Having some time to himself.
Huffing he trotted up to the lake, peering down at his reflection for a moment before reaching down to tug at a piece of grass, chewing on it before making a face. Lake grass tasted funny...

She sat underneath the tree, enjoying the breeze that blew by as she watched the peaceful scene surrounding the lake. Her older brother had gone off on his own for a bit, and Mother and Father were off doing... Mother and Father things, no doubt, so she was enjoying her time to herself and her own thoughts, instead of the lessons being impressed into her young mind.
Smiling, she closed her eyes and let the breeze blow through her short mane. What a nice day it was looking to be!
She opened her teal eyes to look around for signs of her feminine brother, but in her search spotted a dark little figure in the nearby distance. What was that creature? Could it be Reflection?

His tail flickered slowly behind him as he leaned down to take a sip of the cold water, hoping that it was better in taste than the bitter grass had been. It was, thank goodness. It was nice and cool and fresh... And about a dozen other words he could have found to mean better than 'yuck'.
He straightened back out after a moment, giving his head a light toss that sent short mane fluttering. There had to be something to do with this quiet besides wait for his father to come grumble at him for being alone...

Her ears perked, and she rose from where she sat. No... it couldn't be Reffy. His hair didn't look like this colt's. Was it somebody new?
She trotted slowly towards the creature, watching as it drank from the icy cool waters of the lake. The little filly was tempted to step onto the hard icy parts of where the lake had frozen over, and approach the colt from that direction, but she knew better than to risk it, seeing as how it was obvious this colt had found fresh water to drink from the lake. Perhaps it was thawing out already? Whatever happened to the nice cold winter?
She studied him as she drew closer, curious as to why there was a foal out here, in the middle of nowhere, without anyone else by his side.

He glanced up from his musings, eyes wide as he caught sight of a dark figure. He took a few steps back, trying to think of every one of the very many words that his father had said on the subject of 'speaking with strangers'. Whatever it was it didn't look dangerous...
He held his head high, puffing up his chest in an attempt to look as big as his father was as he stood his ground, waiting for whatever it was to come to him.

Her silver eyebrows rose as she watched the other dark figure notice her presence, and her teal-tipped wings ruffled with excitement. It was definitely thrilling to finally meet another creature outside of her family.
Finally arriving to where he stood, she stifled a giggle at his chest-puffing, and tried to do the same, wondering what kind of greeting it was supposed to mean.

Oooh. It was a girl, he decided upon seeing her silly actions. A girl with a dark coat much like his own... And wings like the mare that he had seen around his mother... Astoria, he believed her name was. He didn't recall her having any children though so this one... This one must belong to someone else.
His brow furrowed slightly as he saw her chest puff up as his had, wondering if maybe she was afraid of him. "Y'don't have t'be scared." He tried to be reassuring, knowing well that he'd been told to treat ladies kindly... He supposed that went for little ones as well.

The giggle she had tried to suppress managed to escape, and her head tilted to one side as she stared at him curiously. She hadn't come in contact before with any other foals aside from her brother, so it was more than interesting to see how others her age acted.
"Why would I be afraid of you?" She asked, her short tail twitching as she stood before the dark colt. "You don't look scary, at least. Are you supposed to be scary?"

"I dunno... Maybe." He had scared the squirrel that had been playing around the tree not far from where he'd trotted past. Girls weren't squirrels though and maybe she was a different kind of girl... Like his sister and mother.
Rather than dwell on that he straightened himself out once more, holding his head high as his tail flickered behind him. "My name's Kyrinos. Who're you?"

She stuck her head up high and proud. "Daphne," came the reply, as she said it with pride. Dorian had always told her to take pride in who she was, and the little foal wasn't about to let down her role model. "My name is Daphne, and it's nice to meet you, Kyrinos!"

"It's..." What was it that he had been told was the proper way to greet a lady? He thought for a good moment before bowing his head deeply, making a big scene of being polite. "It's my pleasure to meet you, Daphne." He then straightened out, looking to her as if expecting her to tell him whether or not he'd gotten it right... Even if 'telling him' wound up being nothing more than a smile of acknowledgement.

The small filly smiled. How pleasant this colt was behaving towards her! Dorian had always told her how nasty and malicious young males could be, since they were all 'miniature brutes', as Dor had phrased it. Well, whatever a brute was, Kyrinos didn't seem to fit that image at all!
"The pleasure is all mine," she giggled, and nodded her head. "And whatcha doin' out here all by yourself, Kyrinos?"

"I am..." What was her doing out here? Something of course... But there had to be a way to make it seem interesting. "Staying out of the way." His nose wrinkled slightly as he glanced back over his shoulder. "The adults are being awfully fussy... So I came here because it was quiet... And pretty."
