It was her first official bio class; Abri couldn't deny that she was rather excited. Her first student was to be a male, a snowy owl, and her classroom was immaculate. It looked like a normal science lab, of rows and rows of lab tables and a few seats in the front for regular things. Posters lined every wall, anatomy posters of a human along with diagrams of random animals. When Ligeia walked in, he would see words on teh dry erase board just for him

Snowy Owl (Bubo Scandiacus)
Large
Nomadic
Canada through northen Eurasia, sighings in the South and the British Isles

Maybe not so much words as statements but they were there, scrawled in flowing letters. The teacher was sitting on top of her desk, legs dangling with a pleased smile on her face.

Ligeia was excited over the fact that he had gotten word of his first Biology Class, he had gotten a good nights rest and gotten up early just to get ready for the class. He wasn't sure how one dressed for this sort of class, wasn't sure the teacher's feelings on mode of dress so he had taken the careful path and wore clothing similar to what one wore to one of Miss Raven's classes. A short sleeved white button up shirt, a simple black skirt with shorts underneath, and a pair of sandals. He had his hair tied back so that it would be out of the way as well.

He wondered what Biology consisted of, he didn't think that it was as active a class as the melee, magic, or skills classes so he'd guessed that a notebook and pen were no doubt in order. He had that stuff tucked away into a backpack that was currently being carried by the large, blue dragon beside him, "If its alright with the teacher for you to come in you have to remember to be very quiet." He said to Vorel.

The Frost Dragon gave a nod of his head, not saying a word as if to demonstrate that he could in fact be very quiet.

Ligeia paused in front of the door to the classroom, taking in a deep breath before he stepped inside, "Hello." He greeted the woman sitting at the front of the classroom.

Vorel peeked his head into the classroom, "Hello, Teacher." He greeted as well.

Abriatya blinked up when the creak of the door signaled the arrival of her student. She studied the young man for a moment, gaze narrow and shrewd as she took in his physical characteristics. Finally, Abri beamed, her face lighting up with a smile as she hopped down from her desk.

"Hello there, darling! It's so good to see you made it here without getting lost! I did the first time." She nodded quite firmly, moving over to Ligeia with quick strides. She circled the snowy owl, eyebrows quirking upwards curiously. "You're the first older hybrid I've seen. And is that one of the dragon? I've only seen itsy versions of you there, sweetie pie."

She looked up at the frost dragon, lips curled into a small grin. "I have room for you in between the desks and the lab desks, dear. Sit dow, sit down the both of you, and we can get onto the fun! This is the class where we talk all about YOU."

Ligeia couldn't help but smile brightly as this teacher seemed really nice, "We made it here alright, thank you." He said, watching her as she circled around him and gave a little fluttering of his wings, "His name is Vorel."

Vorel slipped farther into the classroom when the woman said that there was room for him. He did his best to keep his tail from swishing, not wanting to knock anything over and find himself kicked out.

Ligeia watched his dragon as he went to where he was told to sit before he made his way to a desk at the front to sit down. He looked at the notes that were written on the chalk board and he got out his notebook and pen to write the information down. It was a force of habit by now that when something was on the board that he did so, "A class where we talk about me?" He asked.

"A class all about you." Abri confirmed as she hopped onto her desk. "We feel it's appropriate, here at D-corp, to offer children a class to learn specifically about their animal DNA. You're the first, so congratulations! Now, my notes tell me that you're a snowy owl - a bubo scandiacus, to put precisely - and a male one, hence your coloring. So for this whole class, I'm going to tell you all about your species, you're going to ask me questions and get answers and we're going to have a grande ol' time learning all about YOU."

She smiled, brightly, head tilting to the side. "How's that sound? Do you have any questions?"

He looked a little surprised and pleased over the idea, to get to learn more about his DNA then what he'd gotten from his skills classes would be fun he thought to himself. He did his best not to laugh when she said he was first one to get one of her classes as he'd ended up being the first to get some of Peri's more advanced classes as well. Well he was one of the oldest kids here at D-Corp so it only made sense that he would be the first to get some of the classes.

"Its sounds really good, the most I have learned is from skills classes and its more general bird stuff. I also have my first question for you. What do you mean 'hence my coloring'?" He found himself wondering what his coloring had to do with gender.

Abri scoffed. "General bird stuf? Like, you eat dead animals and fly softly? Kiddie things. Here you'll learn things JUST for your species. We're fantastic like that."

At his question, though, she grinned, and widely. "Hence your coloring. You're a male. Female snowy owls - and the infants, as well - they're a darker coloring. The males are pure white, or close to it. It's why they're called the snowy - or arctic - owls. Although, they're not just in the arctic. They've been seen around a lot of different continents and not always where it's snowy. White is just what they were bred for, where they blend in the best."

Ligeia did his best not to laugh, he was liking her more and more he thought as he quickly wrote down what she had said, "Ahhh, that makes sense then." He murmured, "My hair used to be black up it started to grow in white." He said. The tips of it were still black but aside from that the rest was white, now at least he had a good reason for it passed 'maybe puberty' which was what his father had given him.

Ligeia gave a little laugh at that, "Yeah, I blend in well in the snow, huh Vorel?"

The Frost Dragon gave a huge grin at the comment and nodded.

"We took a class where he had to find me using his sense of smell and I had to in turn hide in a snowy terrain class from him." He explained to his teacher.

Advanced hide and seek, it had been fun. So both of them had been in their natural habitats then when they were doing that class. Not something he'd though of at the time but thought was neat now so he took a note of it.

"Allright, toots! Now that we've got that question out of the way, anything specific you want to know or should I just dive right in with lifestyle, breeding, habits, habitats and the like? You can always ask questions along the way.

"If you hadn't noticed, I like talking."

Ligeia did his best to keep from flushing at the 'breeding' comment as it was a little embarrassing in his mind though failed. Even if they were just talking about snowy owls in general they were still the same sort of owl that he was, "Ahhh, yeah that all sounds good." He said, when he got the blush under control.

"Alrighty, then." Abri smiled, taking a moment to collect her thoughts, one finger tapping gently at her chin. "You're known in North America as the Artic Owl or The Great White Owl as well - not just Snowy Owl. Generally, you're very nomadic - like I said, your species has been found almost everwhere - and the ancestors actually lived through the Ice Age. Tough little things. Well. Not little."

She laughed, stretching out slightly. "Other then food, I don't BELIEVE you're known as agressive, unless someone is trying to approach your nests. Like most birds, the chick is cared for by both parents. Chicks, as it is. Usually the sizes of each years clutch can go up to thirteen eggs. They're laid up high, high, because you can see everything and without snow since... Well, there are eggs there. We're getting near your breeding time, now, actually. May-ish. So be prepared for next year, when you're a bit more matured."

"You're a carnivore. lemmings and other rodents are preferred but you'll eat Ptarmigan chicks when avaliable. Rodents aren't just the end all be all, though - you guys like to eat and as long as it has flesh, you will eat it." Abri grinned a little bit. " Small mammals, birds, sometimes larger prey if there's traplines. With rabbits, you can break their necks; you can snatch fish out of water. Snowy Owls sit, they wait, and they are smart.

"You get big. You can be twenty through twenty six inches in length and your wingspan, for your body size, is absolutely lovely. Fifty to sixty inches. Males are smaler then females. Like I said, the males are all but pure white while, on their chests and tails and backs, females and babies have dark markings, kind of like stripes. Sometimes, babies have spots. Their feet are heavily feathered and their wings are VERY thick.

"You are more active during the day and a powerful way of flying. You wouldn't be able to fly very long, darling, sorry about that, but at least you can thermo regulate! Unless you're mating, you're all but silent. Or, as I've seen here, you're just a very quiet young man." She chuckles a little bit, padding back to her desk to hop up on it. "To be frank, I'm glad you don't sound like a male snowy owl. They're very ugly and grating. Ugh." She shudders. "But you have a very loud 'hoo, hoo' to attract females. You can bark, cackle, shriek, hiss and snapping of your teeth. You should try it sometime, sweets."

Abriatya paused, taking a slow breath. She was still smiling. "Do you have any questions before we get to the breeding habits, life expectancy, sort of habitats? It's quite extensive and I want to give you room to absorb it all."

Ligeia listened closely, taking notes, and did his best not to get slightly dreamy eyed when she started to describe owl chicks. He'd babysat a lot for the other kids of D-Corp, helped his father out in classes often, been bitten by them, knocked out of the air by them, and all sorts of other things and yet he still kinda like the idea of maybe being a parent some day.

He blinked a couple times, "Be prepared?" He asked, wondering what he was supposed to be preparing for. Wait, breeding season? He found himself flushing again as he started to wonder if his owl DNA would effect him in such a way, how embarrassing would that be? Not just for him but the one he would love on. This thought cause his mind to immediately go to the one he was currently dating which made his blush worse and he forced himself to focus on other areas, back to listening closely to the teachers words.

"Actually when I was little I did make loud sounds like that, my 'E's got drawn out in a sort of scree sound I am told." He could remember it well enough and sometimes still when his emotions got the best of him he still had the problem.

When he was asked if he had any questions he shook his head, none as of yet.

Abri was chuckling at the boys anecdote and from his deep blush; by the time that she started up again, she was grinning rather widely.

"Be prepared, darling. May is when breeding season starts although courting can begin as early as March. The males will show off for the females, presenting themselves, fluffing feathers, offering food towards the girls. The females make the nests by scraping their talons into the ground." Abri made a claw with her hand, scratching at the air in an example of the actions.

"There's nothing that says the males and females stay together through the years - or even the same site! - but there's been records of the same breeding pair for years, or on the same nesting site. Your species is an upheaval of odd and fun behavior. When food's all around, there can be up to 14 eggs per clutch but usually, it's from 5 to 8, all depending on the couple. Each egg is laid at a 2 day intervals. Lucky girls, mm?"

Another chuckle and Abri fluffed at her hair gently.

"You prefer open tundra and grasslands, fields, instead off denser areas. Nesting is always on the ground and often, you'll roost on rises in the tundra. As for life expectancy.. up to 35 years, in captivity. Not bad for a bird." A pause, a breath and another glance toward shim. "Any more questions? Otherwise, I'm pretty sure we're... done. So ask away! Please? I like questions."

Ligeia gave a nod of agreement, the female owls were lucky weren't they? They got so many babies! He himself liked little kids, like the idea of one day maybe having kids of his own. He tried not to get dreamy or spacey, instead he forced himself to think. Was there anything that he wanted to ask of her? Any questions?

The first one that came to mind was, "Should I be careful and avoid the one I am dating during May?" He asked, last thing he wanted was to pounce and luff on poor Chath because he was feeling frisky due to his owl nature.

Abris eyebrows arched up at that, lips pulling into an amused grin. He was so young! And dating! Why wasn't she dating? Ah well~~ Young love, a beautiful thing, really.

"Well. It really depends on YOU. I know different children with D-Corp have differing amounts of influence. Some are all but purely human acting whereas others are more driven by their animal side. My personal opinion..." She tapered off for a minute and studied the pretty boy, her finger tapping at her chin. "Don't avoid them. Just.. be careful. If you start acting weird or more-" She coughed, "-amorous then usual, excuse yourself and get in control of the animal parts.

"Or you can avoid. Whichever you'd think is safer. I think you're a little too young for mini-owls right now."
