Kisala skipped down the lane towards the park. She hadn't been there in a while, and even though it was cold outside she wanted to go. Her mother had said she could go by herself since it wasn't too far from the Temple, but that she couldn't really go for very long.
Kisala suspected this had something to do with the difficulty of getting Ajiiel out and about and keeping her under control while she was, but she didn't care. She didn't really want her sister along anyhow.
She stopped at a rather tall-looking tree and contemplated it. It looked like there were enough branches for her to make her way to the top...and really, if she couldn't make it all the way to the top, she ought to be able to get a good view on things anyhow!
She grabbed the lowest branch and started hoisting herself up.

For a kid who likes puzzles and messing with mechanics Jamie was rather at home in the outdoors. It was probably because Momma took him here so often. He had begun to notice that shew as more relaxed in parks like this, even more so then when she worked in the cafe'. So he assumed where he liked to take things apart and stuff Momma liked to sit with trees and bushes all around.
Besides...why wouldn't he want to come to the park? After all, he had a two wheeler! He had learned to ride a bigger bike last week, without training wheels! So of course he was thrilled to go, bringing his bike and setting off on the small paths that wove through the fields and flower beds.

Kisala spotted the little boy with the bike after a very short period of time-- she'd only climbed up a couple of branches and was still very close to the ground. The girl hooked her legs under and flipped over, hanging upside down from the tree branch she was on, "Hey!" she cried out, "What's that?"

Jamie braked and barely put his feet out in time not to tip over. He looked up at the girl hanging from the tree, curiosity sparkling in his wide blue eyes. He smiled warmly, tapping one of his handle bars, "This? It's a bike! Momma finally got me one without training wheels." He tilted his head slightly, looking over what she was doing with interest, "Wow, that looks fun! I bet everything looks upsidedown."

The girl's face was starting to turn red, but she didn't seem to notice, "It sure does! Your bike-thingy looks real funny from here. Like you're spinning about on the sky or something." She could see the thing and imagined what it'd look like if it weren't upside down, but she wasn't entirely sure and it looked odd from this angle.
"What's your name? I dun think I've seen you b'fore."

Hm...her face was getting awfully red. He wondered why. He tried to keep his mind off of it, but even small mysteries like that bothered him. He wanted to know how it worked. Tearing his eyes from the sight, however, he quickly met her gaze, smiling bright, "Ah! My name's Jamie. What's yours?" He knew he hadn't met her before. He was very good at remembering faces and even names, though he was more so now that he was a bit better. All of the regular customers in the cafe' always seemed to happy when he remembered right.

She grabbed onto the branch and then flipped herself over, letting herself fall a little bit until she touched the ground, "I'm Kisala!" she giggled, "I live in the Temple just over there," she waved her hand in the general direction of the Temple.

"You live in a temple?" Jamie asked, surprised. He hadn't heard that one before! He knew temples from his story books, usually the ones with hidden idols or something. "I thought they were supposed to be booby trapped," he admitted, not to contradict her, but in a display of his confusion. He was curious...what was a temple like, then, if it didn't have booby traps?

Kisala shook her head, "Naw, unless you count the sand boxes and gardens and stuff as booby traps!" she giggled, "Or Ajiiel, my sister. She'd be a pretty good booby trap really, 'cause she's mean."
She beamed, sitting on the grass underneath the tree, "This is a different sort of Temple with monks and stuff."

"Ohh," he murmured, taking in everything she said. So no booby traps. Monks? He didn't really know much about them. Becca wasn't exactly religious. She always said it would be hard for her, not that he knew why.
"So do you guys live there to guard the treasure instead of booby traps?" he questioned, trying to figure the whole thing out. He was still under the assumption that temples held valuable stuff.

Kisala giggled, "The monks don't have any treasure. They don't like to have stuff at all. Even normal stuff. Momma makes sure I have all the stuff I need, though. And I have a little treasure!"
She pulled out a shiny earring she'd found on the playground the other day, "See? I found this. I have lots of other stuff, too. I find it places."

"Ohhh," he voiced his realization that, well, real temples, at least like the one she lived in, were nothing like the movies. So no treasure. That was a little disappointing. Any child would relish the idea of guarding...or at least finding treasure, like a pirate or a grand explorer. Right?
"Well...you seem to be a pretty good treasure-finder," she commented with a smile, "That's pretty. My mom and sister wear stuff like that, though mom only wears gold and Alisa likes silver." He had yet to figure out why they had such polar opposite preferences. But then, it was a girl thing, so he wasn't sure he could understand.

Kisala nodded, resting her hands on her hips proudly, "I'm an -expert- treasure-finder," she informed him, "mostly 'cause I love treasure, so I look for it all the time!"
She looked over towards the playground, "That's my favourite place to look for treasure. There's always lots of neat stuff there."

"There's treasure there?" Jamie immediately turned his gaze towards the playground, puzzled. He had certainly never found any when he'd visted it but...he supposed it was possible he wasn't looking hard enough. But it still left the back of his mind tickling with befuddlement. There seemed to be only way to solve this and satisfy his curiousity.
"Can you show me?" He asked, giving her a look of barely controled eagerness. If there was one thing he couldn't stand was not knowing. He always had to find out, just like it was very hard not to scratch a bug bite when it itched.
