It had been a long time since Laini had drank water from this river last time. From here, everything started. She did met Bakhti and Rahima and befriended with them. Two friends who she wished to meet again.

And then, there was the Hisani issue. Her dear daughter had disappeared to god knows where. There was an opportunity that she was dead but Laini didn't want to think about it. Not until it was absolutely sure.

The grey lioness sighed. So much had happened. Too many sad things. Well, life was rough at times. But still.

Her gaze rose up, to the starry night sky. She closed her eyes and simply wished things would be better.

He actually needed water now. When his own body started wanting the water, that was a sure sign that he actually needed to take a drink. What put him off, though, was the fact that he could see there was a gray lioness nearby the river.

It seemed to him that all he had been doing since he had lost track of where his sister was, was meeting new acquaintances. And truth be told, he had had quite enough of of it. He didn't like having to introduce himself all the time, and make small talk when he preferred to live in complete silence.

It was at times like this when he realized how much his sister did for him. She shielded him from as much of the world as she could, so he didn't have to handle any of it himself. Just because he came out worse after their parents' death. He realized, then, that he had been selfish and he swore that should he ever find her again, he would not rely on her like a child anymore.

But as things were, that water was what he needed right now, and it was the only thing he could really think of. There was no denying the fact that it was a hot day, and his dark coat was drawing more heat than he wanted. And that water was a way to cool down.

The reality stroke in Laini when she heard someone coming. She turned her head to see who it was. A dark maned lion was coming towards her, or rather, towards the river.

Laini moved away from his way. After all, she had drank all she needed right now already. A polite smile was given to the lion as she passed him and went to little further to groom herself.

That surprised him, he had to admit. For to Djakovo, all it seemed he had done for the past few days was bump into strangers who wanted to stay and talk, and for some reason, he always had. But now this gray lioness had graciously moved over for him with nothing more than a smile and it wasn't something he was used to. So far as he knew, the world wanted to talk to much.

With a quick muttered thank you, Djakovo moved up to the riverside and dipped his head in for a quick drink, stepping so that his forepaws were just covered by the shallow water. That would do. He took another sip and then pulled himself out of the water again and sat, staring beneath the liquid and watching as the little fish darted to and fro between the rocks of the smooth bottomed river.

They seemed to be having fun.

Laini wasn't in mood to talk. Too many times she had had to hear rambling about how cute cubs the one did have or how amazing their mate was. It was always a bittersweet talk, reminding her of what she had had and she had lost. Her mate and then, her children. So no, no pointless chat to her.

One thing she could ask though. But it could wait until she was with grooming herself. Besides, it would be rude to go and disturb.

He felt the need, finally, to somehow acknowledge the gray lioness's presence. For though he disliked talking, the awkwardness of existing as though a stranger beside him was simply not there just did not sit well with his conscience. He fished for something to say, but could not quite find anything.

So he resorted to a quiet, "Um..."

He wondered if she would hear it, and wondered if she would think that it had been rude. But at least, he reasoned, he had acknowledged that she was alive. Now, he could sit in complete silence and simply not talk, and he would be perfectly happy with it.

But not before something had been done to show that he had noticed her.

Laini was pretty much fully focused in her grooming job. Even though many things bothered her mind, she would never allow her fur to get in bad shape.

When she was ready, she stood up, stretching her body in pleasant way and gave a small yawn. Good, the lion hadn't run away. She could ask her question.

"Excuse me," the gray lioness said. She approached him carefully, keeping a polite distance. "May I ask you one question? It is important."

He glanced up in surprise, for apart from his uttered sound, he hadn't expected that there would be much more to happen. He had just resorted to staring down at his paws and dreaming of better days when her voice broke into his dreams.

"Course," He said, clearing his throat as he shuffled his paws slightly in the sand, fidgeting with his tail as well. He had some trouble staying still in the presence of others. So focused was he on saying all the right things that he forgot about the rest of himself, and those little muscles he didn't use so often tended to like to twitch.

"Well, I'm looking for someone," she started, glancing around sometimes, with a slight hope to see a glance of whatever she was looking for.

"Or actually, there is more lions I'm looking for but one certain lioness I have to find." She told him descriptions of all her three children Ithibati, Tumai and Hisani. Her tail switched nervously as she told this information. "So, happened to see them?"

((O.O She's Ithi's mom? So she's... Sura's biological grandmother. Wow xDD))

How ironic it was that she was searching for someone, or perhaps in this case someones, as well. He knew that feeling, of searching but not finding, and the frustration and worry that often accompanied it. And how he wished then that he could give her good news and tell her that he had seen any of the three that she had described.

But he hadn't seen them recently, nor had he ever met any lion fitting any of the three descriptions she had given him. So he could only shake his head regretfully.

It was a moment before he finally decided he should say something. "I hope you'll find them," He told her, and though his voice sounded gruff and his words as though they were fighting an invisible barrier on their way out, he meant what he said.

((Yep, she is Ithi's mom. Want Sura to meet her?))

Although Laini was prepared for these kind of news, she couldn't help to not feel disappointed. Her face sadly fell, even though she tried to keep the content expression on her face. A sigh escaped between her lips.

"Thank you."

Even though the disappointment had darkened her mood, she still managed to be polite. She looked very tired though. This search had drained her a lot.

"I need to keep searching."

With that, she turned to take a leave.

((Sure! Although Sura doesn't know that Ithi's her mom. She was raised by Denge's daughter, Ny, who sees Ithi as a mom meaning Sura considers Ithi "Grandma" so Laini would be Sura's "Great-grandma" xDD))

He felt like he should say something, something other than sorry or that he hoped she would find them. Perhaps something so she would know she wasn't the only one searching and not finding.

But by the time he had finished the inner debate of whether or not to say something, she had already turned to go. And so for the hundredth time, his thought went unsaid and he didn't do anything about it. It didn't matter much to him. He had met her in a chance meeting and nothing special had come of it. He expected that, and was glad for it too. For if something special were to happen every day, there would be nothing special anymore.

He could see that she was tired of searching, and perhaps he should have suggested she stay and relax for a moment or two. Because he knew what kind of a toll constantly searching could take. But he didn't, and he watched her go, seeing in her step what could have been a healthy jaunt, faded by weariness.

And he realized then that, even if he were to suggest she stop looking for a moment, she probably wouldn't. Here was a lion determined to find something she didn't know how to locate. That was something he couldn't really stop, and he wasn't going to try. On the other hand, he himself would spend a moment more by the riverside before continuing on his own search for family.

((End x3))
