crazy spork i am

i was inspired by one a member's line work in my guild :3 i haven't been drawing much...haven't been motivated enough and been tired due to being sick or work or a combination of the two. but tonight i actually got a little drawing started (it's still a wip):

been checking out stuff on different japanese fashion styles. this one is himegyaru. actually...thinking about it, it might be kind of fun to try and do a whole bunch of different styles like this.

sometimes if i'm tired of refining my lines i'll start plotting out what i want to happen. in this case i filled out some areas in black to see the play between positive and negative shapes. i wanna create some interest and contrast with some of her hair and accessories. still not quite sure how i want to render it...but i'll get there when i get there :3

At first it was hard to tell what was going on with her hands, but on closer inspection it makes sense. For some reason I want to see this in lime. :U

yeah, hands still need to be worked out. at the moment i just kinda roughed them out, to remind me what i need to do once i get to that part.

as for lime...do you mean turning all the black parts lime? or keeping the lines dark and coloring it lime? both are doable, i'm just curious as to what you meant. that sounds like an interesting idea since i normally stay away from bright or saturated colors.

I think she meant she wants you to carve this into a lime.

the lines of her face shape are delicate and lovely

idk, im biased i prefer a messy looking composition
so it looks pretty great as it is to me

i recomend coloring over your lines (if you want to color at all)
and laying on your detali that way, if you care about making it neater looking

which i dont think you should,
but like i said im biased xD

I meant to make the parts that aren't black lime or lime+the complimentary colors, but just having lime playing a strong role in the image might look really cool.

making the lines different colors might be a possibility...but i don't think i will be rendering it full out since i just wanted to do something with lines and shapes. i do have one in the works that i've been digitally painting:

i made a lot more progress than this, but i was too lazy to put another WIP image.

i haven't been feeling burnt out with the painterly one...which is strange because normally it's the other way around. but it's always nice to have variety :3

slopii - thank you for the comment. i adore her work, even though i don't use her stuff as reference or influence :3

Latest is really nice, love the blends of ice cream pastels with your sultry style.

Now I look at the rest of your work its not similar to A K at all ^^ was having a brain splerg or somfink. I love her work also but its a bit same same after you have seen the first 5 pictures.

I'd like to see some work featuring a guy in the same style <3

once in a while i'll draw a guy. but truth be told i'm a lot more interested with the shapes of the female figure...but i know there's always room for practice! i probably would be more inclined to do so if illustrating and doing conceptual art for characters was my main thing. i normally just do this stuff to kickback and wind down from the normal everyday stresses of my job :3

i will seriously take that into consideration when i'm feeling adventurous and feel like stepping out of my comfort zone :3 thanks muchly for your comments!

Do be careful with the amount of women you draw. It can really cripple you if you can't draw anything other than girls. Audrey's art is okay, but it's basically the same thing over and over. Pretty to look at; gets old fast.

actually it can't really cripple me, seeing as the skills i use for my job doesn't really lie in that area. and i do alright with commissions when i've got free time to do so (and even then, i'm not totally adverse to guys...but i do let my commissioners know where my strength lies). i draw what i draw because i like it, and it's my recreational area to differentiate from the stuff i normally do for a living...even though there are still some parallels (like design and composition, etc.). i feel i'm entitled to draw what i like for a hobby since i still get practice in general areas like coloring and line work that i can also use for subjects that aren't necessarily women...and it's not necessarily essential that every artist is able to draw everything. :3

This has a really cool retro feel. What resolution are you doing this at?

approximately 8.5x11" at 300 dpi. i had initially sketched this out on a piece of card stock i had lying around at home. my friends and i sometimes go out to starbucks or something to sketch for a bit. breaks the monotony of working on the computer all the time :3
