this was like a ten minute pose i think, and we had to work with complementary colors so i put in a teeny bit of light blue

not even going to post the others... i just got progressively worse as the class went along.
the teacher told us to draw up close and off the page, (i didn't listen for this one obviously) which i think is retarded because then we cant study the relationship of body parts
which is the whole point of what we are doing neutral

also the legs are way too long lol

Mike Mikos was the old school figure drawing guru of my school before he retired.
According to him, legs can NEVER be too long.
Ever.

I think you're ewwing because it looks like you're trying to use pastels like pencils. smile Personally, I take light pastels first, quickly block in the figure, and slowly work my way into darker pastels. It also makes it easier to fix mistakes later on - the lighter pastels end up being the ones touching the paper, so scraping a bit of pastel off doesn't leave the dark color behind.

Maybe try using strokes perpendicular to the direction of the body part - like on the leg, there's a lot of strokes parallel to the leg that make it seem even more elongated. Short strokes going perpendicular to the bottom of the leg might have helped shorten it visually.

Also, the extended leg is floating!
