So today, I got into an argument. With a new player, no less. He couldn't understand why there were elites in the game, and I couldn't understand why he couldn't understand it. We spent about an hour debating it, and that's just what it was. A debate. There was no rudeness, no swearing, no flaming. After that hour, he said that he understood it better, and actually thanked me. I was left with an overwhelming appriciation for this person, because the whole time I was afraid he was going to get mad at me and start yelling, like most people I've run into do when a debate happens.
Isn't it awesome to meet someone in the game who could actually pass for a human being of average intelligence? biggrin

I hate World Of Warcraft because the player base pre-70 raiders and good PvPers are 90-95% dumbass fags. And even then, some of them are retard little kids.
Which is why I join as many decent WoW forums as I can and try to find intelligent friends, like nature's swiftness, Kim, fahsky, whatever Anul Cigar changed his name too, and Karnokoto.

That would be me. Thanks for putting me in that list of Intelligent friends, much appreciated. At the moment i've found a nice little Hive of intelligent people in the guild im in. About 85% of them, at a guess, are smart, literate people, occasionally using "u" instead of "you". Noone swears, but they'll vent there anger, however, when they do, they normally ask for advice, so everyone's always learning and giving a helping hand.

Smart people in WoW? is that possible?
Yea. It is possible. I have met some myself. took me a while you understand the concept of Elites too or at least why they have them.
Rare I understand, but Elite are a different beast.

Hahahha. Wow, ain't that one in a million?! xd Oddly enough, I know these two 8 and 9 year old brothers that have like lv59 and lv40 (something) hunters... they're both incredibly mature for their age. They play WoW all the time. Heck, I ran em through Sunken Temple just last week... I only wish my 12-year-old brother was smarter and would get off his damn "gangster" PS2 basketball games and junk and join my WoW community of friends. Hell, it'd be so much easier to set a better example. >> He's spoiled rotten!

Heh. I never consider age = maturity smile hence a saying that I firmly believe.
Growing old is inevitable , growing UP is optional.

Indeed. I just got the shorter end of the stick in the gene pool. sweatdrop Eh, I still love him... just not his new hip attitude. And yeah, I've met my fair share of reasonable people on WoW... and they all end up finding it simply unbelievable that I'm 18. (Due to the way I talk I guess...)... they all guess I'm like in my late 20s or something. >>;; And they all end up somehow being male with female toons. xd ~sigh~

The guild I'm in ingame on Rexxar is pretty cool. Stupid people get kicked out. Stupid people, rude people, chatspeakers, all that s**t people refuse to put up with. The general rule of thumb is that you have to be 16 or older to join. Of course, anyone can lie about that. But if you cant act like you're 16 or older, you're gone, and your name is put on the blacklist so you dont get reinvited when the GL is gone. It may sound harsh, but with that rule in place the guild has got a lot of quality people in it, and its a great guild to be in. But finding that sort of s**t in trade chat is crazy. I mean, occasionally I find people that can spell, but then they turn out to be some batshit loco RPer with typing skills to make up for their lack of intelligent thought.

I'm a bit odd, but I'm nowhere near as illiterate and immature as the majority of the WoW community. I hate the elitists that blame everyone but themselves for losing a BG. I may suck at BG, but at least I can admit it instead of acting all elitist about it.

Oh, and i also hate people who announce that they've ignored someone, and normally ignore them for saying it.

Whats Americas excuse? :p On topic though, I dont really encounter immature people on WOW. Mostly because I stick to my guild, and since we're rather selective everyone in it is rather mature (if not a little bit emo at times). I think we're all a bit older as well because our raids tend to run late and younger kids usually have bed times :p

They almost always say something like "Wow, you sound much older." It's kind of annoying.

I disagree with a lot of people in that, I don't believe somebody can't spell just because they (for example) use "u" instead of "you", or "r" instead of "are". Its just easier and faster to type.. however, the whole problem is solved by people using voice chat, but nobody can get their s**t together to get a damn mic.
Anyway.. I rate a person's intelligence online (at first glance) by their level of articulation, not the precise spelling of the words they use.. Just thought I'd stick that out there..

On people: Yeah, it is wonderful to run into someone nice in game. For a while my night elf shadow priest kept running into an undead shadow priest. We would always wave to each other.
On spelling, grammar, and slang: I am Co-GM of a guild and am in charge of recruitment. When I interview people through whispers, I do take care to notice their spelling and grammar. If someone cannot even take a second to type "you" instead of "u," then I know they might not be a good fit for my guild. Personally, I find "u" to be lazy, stupid, and disrespectful. If they cannot take the time to even attempt to spell actual words, then I don't see them being patient enough to be a good raider. In my experience, it's rare to see a nice and mature person make use of the "word" "u." Usually it is more like, "hai wil u giv me 20g 4 armor plz plz plz?"
We require vent for raids anyway, so no one should be that pressed for time that they cannot type a simple word like "you." If someone is farming when I whisper them, I would rather they just wait until they have time to respond properly rather than give me some response that I have to try to decode because it does not contain actual words.
Now that it is not to say that perfect spelling and grammar are required in my guild. You might see guildies of mine using "there" when it should be "their" every once in a while. While I notice it, I am not going to gkick anyone for it. xp As long as someone makes an effort, that is what matters to me. While we are a "preferably 18 and up" guild, we do have a couple of younger people. Our youngest is a lovable, well-meaning ten year old with awful spelling, but he tries so hard. xp
