"Remember," Tyler said as he walked with Chris down the high school hallway. "We're not going to mention this little call to Mommy unless she asks, right?"
"Uh huh," Chris agreed easily. He had quickly grasped the idea of keeping some things to himself, especially after Merroth had showed up. "Is good she no worry," he added with a nod.
"That's right. And I'm sure we'll clean this up without a problem." He stopped at the offices area, knocking once and entering. The lady at the front desk pointed him forward and he nodded, looking a bit grim as he stopped at the Assistant Principal's door, knocking twice.
It was probably about eh xylophone incident, he thought with an inward sigh.

"Come in," came the answer, the voice high and haughty and somewhat annoyed. The door opened to reveal a redheaded young man bent over a desk of carefully-arranged papers and forms, scribbling diligently. Percival Prowley, administrator extraordinaire, looked up from his papers and recognized the janitor.
Percival had a lot of sympathy for janitors. He had spent most of his life as a household servant performing much the same function. He quickly rose from his chair and gestured to the seats on the other side of his desk, extending his hand to Tyler. "Mr. Deakon, it's good to see you. This must be Christian." If Percival was disturbed by Christian's appearance he hid it well. Had he taken a larger interest in the daycare center Percival might have met Christian previously, but as it was he preferred his office and his papers to the children under his care. Instead, he hired other people to deal with the children on a daily basis, until one got into trouble. Then it was straight to Percy's office.

Tyler shook the hand offered. "Mr. Prowley," he said with a nod before taking one of the seats. Chris pulled himself up in the other, staying silent as he waited for the adults to do their talking thing. He had gone through meetings like this before with his Mommy and Father Higgins. Usually it wound up with him getting wet.
"I believe this is about Chris and the new boy, right?" Tyler asked, jumping straight to the problem.

"New boy?" echoed Percival, who kept track of new students in name and number only and could not be certain which of the recent enrollments Tyler was referring to. He adjusted his spectacles. "Well, there was a complaint, but to be honest it's a more general concern arising from several circumstances. I recieved some... unusual expenses from the daycare center, and in light of the complaint, I've been examining the situation. Now, as your'e aware, all of the children here at the Center are extraordinary."

"Oh, that!" Tyler said, relaxing and shaking his head. "He is extraordinary, that's for sure. I bought some steel rods to reinforce his bed with last weekend and he started bending them like paper clips. He's learning to control his strength, but, well, he's a baby. It's just a matter of practice--"

Percival smiled. His eyes darted toward Christian a moment."Indeed. Christian in particular is extraordinary in ways very different from our other students. It's the reason I asked you here. I have to admit I have some concerns about Christian's strength." The cards were on the table with that statement. Percival could not have said it any more plainly.

Tyler fell silent for a moment, leaning forward slightly, then stopped and looked at Chris. "Why don't you explain, buddy?"
"I dun wanna break things," Chris said, her bottom lip threatening to tremble. "I just gonna get bigger, too," he went on. "An' stronger. An' I might not be able to go through doors, an' I might break even bigger stuff, an' I--" he looked down, the picture of pathetic. "I dun wanna grow like Wisp did. I sorry bout the xylophone. And the table. And the door knob, and--" He took a deep breath. "I sorry."

Percival was quick to try and assuage Christian's guilt in his own, administerial way. "It's not a question of material items or money, we certainly have enough funding to outfit this building a dozen times over, but for both your son's safety and the safety of the other children, we think-- I think it might be a good idea to dampen Christian's abilities somewhat -- at least while he's at school."

Tyler blinked. "So he'd be only as strong as the other kids while here? You can do that?"
Chris wiped at a tear, looking at the man with a hint of hope.

Percival nodded and opened one of his desk drawers, reaching in for something. "I asked a friend of mine, a mage, to see if he might be able to come up with something. He's very good, member of the Mage Council, and he created this." Percival withdrew a small black box, the kind used for jewelry, and slid it across the table. "I won't pretend to understand how it works, but Reginald did consult with Dr. Akari at the Lab and he assured me it would."
((I thought you might like to describe the ring yourself, as it's yours. ^^))

Tyler took the box, holding it so Christian could see inside as he opened it. It wasn't a necklace, as he had expected (since Chris obviously liked to wear necklaces) it was a two hooped earring (wide and flat like an ear cuff, but big enough to look like hoops on the boy), one that had a gold chain connecting the two hoops. It looked rather big for the baby, but both of them didn't seem bothered by that fact in the least. "It looks like they've been thinking about this," Tyler said as he made Chris turn so he could put it on his left ear. The earring tightened on its own to stay on the boy's ear. One hoop, though, was on the very tip of the ear and the chain dangled down so it touched his jaw. "Don't worry, buddy, you'll grow into it." Chris reached up, touching the chain and making it tinkle. "Is big," he agreed. "We might haveta tape that chain up so it doesn't snag on things until you grow," Tyler added. "But heck, other than that it looks good on you!" ((Hehee, he's already got a necklace and I was reading Alice Academy a while back. Earrings are good magical items!))(Oooh, TB drew it for me (and better than I designed it, to boot, the brat) so here is a pic of it)

Percival decided to have a nice chat with Reg about the appropriateness of morphic charms for students and smiled his nicest administrator smile. "I'm glad that's taken care of, then. Do let me know if you need anything in the future." He rose from his chair and extended his hand to Tyler, a clear meeting-is-over gesture.

"Thank you," Tyler said, standing as well and shaking the other man's hand. "He's going to really like this."
Chris was already tugging at the arm chair handle experimentally. It didn't rip off in his hand, or even bend funny. He laughed out loud. "Isn't breaking, Daddy!!" he said.
"That's great, buddy," Tyler said, picking the boy up with a grunt. "I think you gained another ten pounds this morning," he muttered, shaking his head in amusement. "We'll just let ourselves out, thanks," he said, glancing over at Percival. "And again... thank you. And thank your mage friend for me, would you?"
