I was wondering if common goldfish get very big because I recall seing something about a British goldfish judging and remember them saying that they only get to be about 4 inches. I got scared when someone showed me a site taht said that they must be in huge tanks. my fish are still small.
THen again at the time I was researching my pleco and the sites said that they reach only 7 inches. this is wierd because the one at my local petshop in the display tank was about a foot or more!

why is there a whole subfoum about goldfish if nobody talks about goldfish here.............
it seems that this sub-forum is slower even than the rest of the forums.....

Sorry. I come by and stop by often, since I like goldies but I'm a begginer in fish care so I don't know much about fish care other than the basics....even the basics I'm iffy about.
But I do have comets, aka feeder fish. They usually come in at the size of 1 inch or so. I hear and read that if given proper care and space they can get big as 1 foot. *0* I would cry if my fish got that big....lived that long. It would mean alot to me if a fish could live that long.

Ah yeah.
Sorry, this is a quite slow forum indeed.
I used to keep my common golds in a small pond and they grew up to 8 inches ish. Sadly a heron ate them all. when we were moving
We bought 3 comets to restock the pond, but when we moved into the new house I couldn't have a pond (yet?)
So now I'm keeping mine in a 20 gallon and they are about 4 inches.
I've had no success with keeping golds and plecos alive together though.
So yeah, if given room, golds can grow to be quite large, though I think the average maximum is about 16 inch.
If you keep them in a smaller space they are more likely to get deformed.
One of my comets has a bent tail now, which worries me a lot.
The fun part about keeping golds in a pond is that if you have a lot of plants in there they are very likely to get babies.
The fish I used to have in the pond had 3 babies.
