So Are They or not Persnally as a guy i'm torn. On onesde any help is good when it comes to covering percussion parts. Any percussionist will agree. On the other side, I've seen Teenage Engagements broken up because of percussionists, death threats made, and almost followed out. Here's an example:
A new girl came to our school this year. gorgeous. She joined band. She is engaged to a sophmore in a different school. Myone friend comes up to me saying, "I'm Gonna break up an engagement." Long story short he did. Kid gets pissed threatens to kill him.

One thing I've noticed about female percussionists is that they don't cause as much drama as other girls in the band (especially guard). Honestly, there were more problems and drama going on with the drumline guys than the girls.

I like girl percussionists. Both of the drumline girls from my school are amazing.

I' female percussionist and I handle the piano. I think the girls work as much as the guys but sometimes the guys can get more out of hand.

I am thinking that situation doesn't apply to persussionists in general.
It's unfair to blame them. It could happen to anyone.

We have girl drummers and most are rather tom-boyish and cause no trouble at all.

Well its nice to get a girls point of view out of this. Im not saying that girls can't play percussion, I'm just saying thatwith every girl comes some sort of drama. If your a girl dont deny it cuz you know its true. xp

For most of my time in drumcorps and marching band (I'm in the colorguard) I've only ever met two girls that were in the battery. I still find it odd. I'm use to the pit and cymbal line having girls... it's just thru out my highschool our percussion head did not want girls in the battery. when he left my senior year we had our first girl... i didn't know what to think. then my first year of drumcorps i had one girl drummer again... after that, it was all boys again. I never had a problem with them at all they were wonderful and wicked fun to hang with at the end of the day.

I'm a girl precussionist~ Represent! xD
Well, I think its good to have girls as long as they don't suck. :3
I HATE how people always think that girls can only play keyboard!
I can play snare too!! >-<
Also, the guys need some estrogen around to keep them under control.
And to find everything they lose and bake the cookies. >P

Well. from the story stated at first, why don't we just turn the subject around and ask how you feel about guy percussionists? It seems to me like your friend and the one guy the girl was engaged with brought on the drama. It's the boys who created the drama for themselves because now they have something to have drama about.

At my school, I have to cover most parts. In marching band this fall, I covered almost 3 complete parts in the pit, where the rest of my section could barely handle 1. I'm a corps vet, and the most experienced of my school.

I think that the stereotype we have at my school is very fitting. They don't stop talking ever during rehearsal and they seem to have a knack of not being the brightest in the bunch.

But then again that is my school, and being percussion section leader (and yes, a girl) I can't stand them at all. We have 6 female percussionists and over 15 guy percussionists.

it is true that the [male] drummers would be lost without the [female] drummers..b/c I'M the one who knows where all the music, sticks, drumkeys, ect. is in the band room........frace it boyz you need us.....i'm proud to be the only girl on my line

Your not smart are you? stare
in your story, wasn't the guy the one that caused the trouble, not the girl?

our tenner leader and bass leader are both girls and they kick a** at their drums. heck, our tenner girl takes control of the band when the drum major cant get them to shut up. our guys are lazy and just goof off and keep playing after cut off. our girls are far more disciplined than our guys. so in the way? I don't think so.
and in your first post you make it seem like girls are just there to back up the boys when they cant cover all the parts! what is that all about? all i have to say to that is there is a reason the tenner and bass sections of our line have girl leaders.

"With every girl comes some sort of drama..." WTF?
ok, i take offense on that one. I'm a girl percussionist, and i hate drama. I'm more chill than most of the guys on the line. thats a stereotype, and i don't appreciate it. by the way, this whole topic is just sexist and lame.

As a drum major, i have to deal with much more "Drama" from some of the boys in Percussion then from the girls.
Actually, It's the GIRLS that stop the boys from causing Drama.
What your talking about was completely your friend's fault, not hers. AND, that has nothing to do with being a percussionist.

The girls in Percussion do their job, and play their part and work well together, but the guys piss and moan about not getting the part they want, and about how much better they are then the next guy. So, no. the girls arent in the way. the guys are.

Ok. What you're talking about is not the fault of a girl being in drumline. That is the result of guys being jealous guys. If you honestly think that the girl simply being there caused the problem, then you are one seriously messed up person. scream
Girls are just as important to a drumline as the guys are. We work just as hard to play our parts as the guys do.
