Hello All! I'm Nick and I am rather interested in both true alchemy and the Hagane No Renkinjutsushi (spelling?) Any Way ... I was just wanting to say a few things that really bothered me... You know get them off my chest... Any way... First off... The Crucified Snake... Known to some as "Ed's Symbol"... Is NOT something that they thought up for FMA, It is an alchemical Symbol that is on Nicholas Flamel's Grave. (Yes, he was REAL...) Second (This is an error in FMA), The Philosopher's stone, Didn't have to be a stone, AND it would NOT have helped Ed and Al get their bodies back. Nicholas Flamel was the only person who ever reportedly discovered how to make and use the stone. The stone was used to make the 'Elixir Of Life,' which extended your life span and cured all diseases, and to transmute Common metals into gold. Oh And Flamel created the first homunculus. That's all I can think of right now... I'll post a report my friends and I wrote on alchemy (We put it on 'Wikipedia' but not sure if any one changed it...) Well, feel free to discuss this topic... Or to flame me saying how much I suck for talking about FMA that way...

I think alchemy is awesome, but when people ask me about it, I never know what to say about it. All I even knew was how it helped create chemistry. Thanks for your report!

I would never be able to type all of that and live to see the next day... eek *worships* Danke, WhiteRobesDippedinBlood. That was quite an interesting read. Do you mind if I make this a sticky?
Yes, FMA is not totally accurate. Haha, dont die people, its the sad truth.... ehhh, we arent perfect.
What is really interesting is that if you read the first Harry Potter book, they mention Nicholas Flamel.... and that the Sorceror's Stone is really the Philoshopher's Stone in the book... XD I hate Harry Potter, that just happened to..... amaze me, I guess you can say. rofl

I think FMA purposely messed with the abilities of the philosopher's stone, just to make the story make sense and to add to it, like how Bram Stoker made vampires have fangs. (in original legends they don't, FYI.)

To much to read. Though it is very informative. I believe this information will be very useful to me so thank you for posting it. Also, are you a qualified alchemist, because if you are, I am looking for a teacher and would greatly appreciate it if you would teach me all you know.

The real stuff is pretty cool. I found this really old book at my great-grandad's house about alchemy. It actually had instructions for how to make homunculi! How weird is that? It involved a horses uterus and a whole bunch of really gross ingredients that I can't remember now, and it had to sit over a fire for months and you couldn't let it get too hot or too cold...bah, I'm crappy enough at regular cooking, let alone pseudo-people cooking. I'll see if he'll loan me the book next time I see him. 3nodding

This really has nothing to do with what you are talking about, but I want to share it.
I read this story once:
An old man came to a village, and used alchemy to turn gold into stone. The village people are very impress with it, and ask him to teach everyone, but he said no. The people begged for so long so he finally give in. He told the people how to turn rocks into gold, and after, he told them no matter what they do, NEVER NEVER think about the monkey on the mountain near by, then he left. People in the village try so hard, but everytime they try to turn rocks into gold, they can't help it but think of the monkey, so the people in the village can never turn rocks into gold.
