The young woman sat on a rock in the clearing. She was running her fingers in her long hair and singing a song as loudy as she could. She let the wind carry the melody. She was calling her son. She did not know if he would hear her. She did not know if he would come even if he could hear her. It was hard to say.
She had to see her baby. She knew that he had changed physically and she would have to be prepared for it. Accepting of it, but what worried her most were the changes that she knew had come to his personality. But he was still her baby. He would always be her baby.
So she sang. She sang of a family torn from one another. She sang of love and she sang of loss. She sang for her Gabriel.
It was rare that she chose to appear in her human form but when he was a foal, he used to enjoy it so much. He used to love it when she would play with his hair and pet him with human fingers. Of course, this physical form would per her in more danger.. but she had faith in her Gabriel. Her baby.

He found himself following the call of song. He knew. How could he not? Hadn't those songs haunted him every time he managed to fall asleep? But it couldn't be her. No, this was a cruel trick. A mirage. His mind playing with him. He had been so confused lately. Nimue.. his plans of foals with her. His growing obsession with her. Ezriel, the bond he felt he had with his son, even slight, was more than he ever expected and he was growing curious about Dante and Meera as well. He was growing soft and now the gods had come to play tricks of him. He would find the source and he would put a stop to it. When he came into the clearing he paused, unable to breathe. Before him in the distance, was a woman that he had not seen since he was a foal. It could not be a mirage for each Angeni only had one human form. He could hear the song more clearly now. He could not understand her. With his curse, he lost his own ability to turn into a two-legger. He missed that. But still, her song was beautiful. He couldn't believe she was here. Why had she come? What was her purpose? Why hadn't she visited long before? Called for him? He was mixed with anger, resentment and hope. He wanted to see her but he did not want her to see him. He did not want her to see what he had become. He did not want her to learn of the things he had done. But would such an opportunity ever come again? The stallion found himself walking forward despite his insecurities. He could not pass this up.

The young woman looked over her naked shoulder. She sensed him the moment he had reached the clearing. Her eyes widened only slightly when she saw how much he had changed. The spikes sticking out of his body were foreboding to say the least.
His hair had grown so long and seemed a tangled mess. And when he was nearly upon her she could see that his wounds still bled slightly, as if they could never heal. He had lost his second set of wings and had gained a demon tail. Her baby.. her poor baby.
"Gabriel," she whispered. She knew he would not understand her words but he would the feeling with it. He stared at her for several minutes before he took another step forward. She could since the doubt in him and was sure he was hurt and mad at her.
He made no threatening moves, he did not appear as if he was going to attack and as a few more moments passed, he finally lowered his head. It was a sign of acceptance.
Tears came out of her eyes and ran down her cheeks. She stood up and walked near the stallion who towered over her at the moment. With a trembling hand she caressed his cheek and ran her hand down his neck.
She said no words, for what good would they do them? She didn't have much time left in this form so she set out to groom her son. She worked her fingers in his hair, ridding it of all the tangles. Every time she neared one of the spikes her stomach turned. She had no idea there were so many of them. Her son did not deserve this. She would appeal to the gods later, plea for them to remove his pain. He did not deserve this fate.
When she was done, she stepped back and raised her hands up to the heavens and called forth her true form. Within seconds the human was gone and she was once again an Angeni.
"Hello.. Gabriel," she whispered.

"I am Reaper," he stated coldly. He would never admit it but he enjoyed having his mom near him. The touches felt good and it had been ages since his hair had been cared for. He felt a little guilty at being rude to her as he had no problem with Nimue calling him Gabriel.. but his mom.. he wasn't ready.
He hated that she looked at him with love instead of contempt. He killed his father, Raguel. Her one true love. How could she care for him still? What right did he have to deserve it?
She was beautiful, ever as bright as he remembered. One of the fairest of the Angeni, she had been called. He took more after his father. Her voice was so similar to his own daughters. Angelic, pure. Had he ever heard his mom yell or even get angry? He could not remember.
He did not know what to say. What could he say? That he was sorry for ruining her life? Killing her mate? His father? Attacking a mare and begetting offspring that he shunned, belittled or even attacked? That he was planning to possibly repeat that failure with a new mare even though his intentions were more positive? That he was a complete monster?
Why had she come? He wanted to know but he dare not ask.

"Reaper.." she replied. "If that is your wish." She was hurt at the coldness she was given but she had expected as much. "I left them," she stated. She knew that he would understand what she was talking about. Them being their Angeni brethren. "I couldn't stay away from you any longer. I heard about you.. about things that took place and I had to come. I can't go back. I don't want to go back. I'm here to stay Gab.. Reaper, whether you want me to or not. I met one of my grandchildren already, Dante? It was so wonderful. I want to meet the others and I want to be a part of your life again."
She knew she was rambling on but it had been years. So many long, heart breaking years, but here she was, face to face with her son. He had grown up so big, so proud. Despite the fact he was carrying the weight of his punishment at all times, he took it all with dignity and pride. He was proud of what he was. He was secure in what he was and it showed. She did not care if he was evil. There was no such thing as true evil. She saw the light in him as a foal and she could see it now. While most of his actions would be terrible, she knew that when it came to those he cared about.. no real harm would come to pass. She knew that in that tough body was a heart. A heart no different than any other. A heart not immune to feeling love.

"That was your decision," he replied coldly. "I didn't ask you to leave. I didn't ask you to come to me." He was taken aback when he saw the hurt expression that came over her face. This is why he didn't want her around. She was one of the few he cared about and he felt it was a weakness, "Look," he started, needing a moment to force the rest of the words to follow, "If you're going to be around, I won't mind. But you do so at your own risk and whatever happens is no fault of my own. I won't be responsible for another death of a parent. I just can't."
And with that he turned and took to the sky, not even waiting for a response. If he had, he would have seen the tears falling from his mothers face and he couldn't handle that right now. If she was going to be around, maybe he could try to protect her along with Nimue and his foals. It would be hard trying to fit all this in and get reach his monthly quota of torture and death. He didn't care how many family members and loved ones flooded him. He would not stray from his true path. He would not grow soft.

Angel cried softly and to herself. It was mixed with happiness and sadness alike. She was happy that in his own way, he allowed her access to his life. That meant the world to her. It was all she really wanted. She was miserable that she had inadvertingly opened up old wounds. She knew he carried such a burden for killing Raguel but it was in self defense. Not a day went by that she did not cry for the loss of her mate. That she did not beg for a miracle to happen. It was not Gabri.. Reapers fault. Her son did what he had to.. to survive. She was the one that told him of the plot. She was the one that told him to run and try to live.
Even she did not feel guilty. She knew that Raguel was bound to honor and duty. He had to lead the patrol.. if he had avoided it, their whole family would have been killed for the shame they would have brought to the Angeni. She was confidant that Raguel went after Reaper with every intent of losing. She was sure that her mate would choose death over killing a son. It was in this that she felt no guilt. Though he was hard on Reaper back then, he loved his son completely, as did she.
Her son carried a punishment he did not deserve. One that was passing on to her grandchildren and it angered her. If she weren't alone, she would charge right back up to the clouds and give them an earful. She was not brave like her son or mate had been. She was weak. She wanted to live.. even if she spent most of her day lonely, wishing for a life she once had and may never have again.
