Nivriti whirled in the air, her wings pushing against the wind currents in powerful strokes, pinion feathers splayed, her brow slightly furrowed as she concentrated. She gloried in being on the wing, walking or running along the ground seemed somehow like a second best, and the freedom above was something she prolonged as long as her body could stand.
Today was a day for acrobatics; and to attempt a trick she had been practising for a few weeks - she was going to try to fly low enough over the Lake that the her wings would brush the waters surface - and not fall in. She'd come close a few times, and had always miscalculated, ending up cold and drenched. This felt like it would be her day however and she straightened her course, flying up high and arching around so that she was approaching one end of the Lake.
The mare began her descent, tail streaming out behind her like a banner in the wind, keeping her wingbeats to a minimum as the water grew closer..closer. Nivriti folded her legs up, sculling her wings forwards, down..she grinned broadly as the tips skimmed the water, ripples expanding behind her as she gained height again. She let out a joyful sound and flew slowly to the bank of the Lake to land as she was shaking a little from the adrenaline of actually acheiving what she'd set out to do.. 'Phew..' she rustled her wings, regaining her breath.

The antics of the Wind hadn't gone unnoticed. As she swooped and soared, before turning her attention to the very lake he had been approaching, Althalus paused to admire such a display. To be airborn was something he had always fancied, but had no way of truly discovering. While his father and two of his siblings had been graced with the gift of flight, Althalus had been deemed to be land bound. Of course, Althalus felt no shame in such a position - and though he admired those who were blessed with wings, his admiration and fancy had never crossed the lines in to jealous or self-pity.
As far as Althalus was concerned, he had been blessed with the looks in the family, and as such understood that a stallion even as he couldn't have everything. There was certainly no need to be greedy - besides - had he been skirted with wings the stallion often believed that it would have been far too much for the world to handle.
And so, with great admiration and mirth, did the sunset painted male resume his trot to the edge of the lake. She stood not far, and he was doubly pleased that it had indeed been a mare he had witnessed. She had long, ebony locks that had been but streamers in the sky, and the rest of her body was carved out of a beautiful shade of cream and brown. To top off such delicate beauty was a set of wings that shared her darkeset dark and lightest light - and both opposing hues had been separated by a stain of red. A delightful lady to behold, to say the least, and Althalus couldn't help but chuckle.
Dipping his head, shaking a few of his red locks away from his face, the stallion gave an appreciative nicker. "Bravo, my lady - bravo! That was quite an extraordinary display of skill and technique." Though his silver eyes danced with mirth, the stallion was completely sincere in his belief. He had surely never witnessed his brother or sister perform so elegantly, and as for his father . . well . . . Grencia was known to be showy, but yet again, didn't seem to harbor quite as much grace as she. Yes, that was a biased opinion, but so what? No other opinion mattered.

When Nivriti had made her intial sweep over the Lake there had been not a soul in sight so Althalus's voice gave her a little start, which she quickly covered. She wasnt a silly, or a flighty mare and she didnt want to give such an impression to a stranger either. She huffed upwards, puffing away a strand of her mane that had fallen across her eyes and looked at the one who had complimented her.
She liked his looks immediately, and although there seemed to be some sort of mischief in his eyes she took his comments as they were given and dipped a courtly bow, one wing sweeping around before her before she straightened and folded it away again. 'Thank you sir.' she replied. 'I wasn't aware that anyone was watching. In fact I checked that there wasn't in case that little display turned out the way it did during practise.' she chuckled a little.
How strange..she blinked. His pelt was all vibrant, warm colours but his eyes were a striking pale contrast. She shook herself from her thoughts and smiled at the stallion, doubly pleased that she had performed her acrobatic display well. 'Might I ask the name of my audience?'

Althalus returned the bow with a slick one of his own, averting his gaze properly to atone for his disruption. The young stallion held an entertaining mind, and he often paused to muse over the idea that stallions and mares were quite unequal - one was made of sweat and muscle of the earth, but the truly blessed had been carved with delicate thought and attention to detail. There was surely no beauty quite like that of a lady, and even the most horrible of personality and sorts had to be respected for the fact that they represented the better of the two sexes. No matter how beautiful or handsome a stallion may be, the males of the world still fell far from such grace.
Rising fully the large male gave a small shake of his coat, resettling his braids that fell against his neck, and dismissing the disheveled bangs that tried desperately to hide his gaze. His red tail swished lazily behind him as his gaze caught a golden flower stained against her flank - her wings had hidden it before, and only now did the subtle design catch his gaze. His eyes studied it but a moment before refocusing on the marvel of a lady before him. The cogs of his mind began to work as such a familiar flower reminded him of his foal hood. . . .
Flowers. . . flowers. . . flowers.
A catch of purple, just the shiest of hints, stained this new ladies ankles. Purple. Golden flowers. Wait - wait - he knew that colour, such a description! Though the one he had the most pleasure and honor of meeting had been wingless and harbored very little brown upon her coat, that flower had been stained upon her flank just the same! No two soquili could harbor such an intricate pattern without there being some relation. . . But how? Perhaps he'd press the matter later - for now, he only wanted to get to know the acquaintance of his new found lady of the sky.
Silver eyes met gold, and he chuckled softly, the mirth behind his gaze growing. "Ah, forgive me then, Miss - I had no intention of intruding, none at all! I had but been on my way for a drink when you caught my eye with your aerial figures and moves - and I must admit - had your trick not gone as well as it had, such a secret would be safe with me. Thankfully though, m'lady, you needn't worry about such possibilities as all's well that ends well."
As she requested his name, the stallion couldn't help but stand a little taller, a little prouder. He wasn't a vain sort - not much - but he did carry himself with no uncertain confidence. He was proud of who had he become, of his family, and why shouldn't he harbor such pride? "Forgive my impertinence for withholding such information, Miss - I'm Althalus, and truly, the pleasure is by far all mine."

For a few moments Nivriti thought that he was staring, she felt a little discomforted at that. She didnt have a self esteem problem, but neither was she overburdened with vanity so frank appraisal left her a tiny bit out of sorts... what had caught his eye? She rustled her wings, a little relieved when his attention went back to her face and he spoke once more.
'It's fine, it isn't as if I can prevent anyone from coming to this area, it is a watering hole after all,' she said in acknowledgement of his own words. 'You wouldn't find it an amusing tale then? I know that if my father had seen my practise attempts he would tease me, I'm sure my sister would as well.' she chuckled faintly.
'Althalus? Interesting name.' she smiled, her head canted one side, a breeze catching her mane and causing it to flare out before settling again. She puffed upwards to unsnag hair from her nose and wriggled it for the sensation had been a ticklish one. 'Mine is Nivriti.'

Althalus was delighted to have met such a pleasant soul, and though his silver eyes watched her with curiousity, he couldn't help but be smitten by her behavior. The way the wind tangled her hair, brushing around her neck and face as if to frame such an expression; the way she wriggled her nose and blew at the loose strands. It was charming to witness, and Althalus was quite pleased he'd chosen today to make his way to the waters edge.
His own bangs wisped around, causing him to give his head a slight shake. His red hair, as often as he enjoyed it braided down his back, often caused him aggravation. His bangs were wild and unruly and more often than not hindered his gaze, even if they did provide his appearance with a sense of character. Pawing lightly at the ground, the stallion kept his good natured smile upon his expression, and chuckled, "Ah, I must admit that such a visual might indeed cause me the unfortunate response to smile, but I wouldn't dare tease. The fact that you have been graced to even attempt a maneuver is more than I could ever account for. Besides," he added lightly, "I'd hate to offend such a lady as yourself and risk cutting ties before they even began."
No, he didn't think Nivriti was such a sensitive type but one could never be sure. Especially when it came to strangers. "Nivriti," he murmured, canting his head to commit such a name with a face. He didn't think she'd be easily forgotten - besides harboring a parallel mark upon her flank with his foal-hood friend, Nituna, she was perhaps the only winged soquili he had such a pleasure to meet outside of his family. "Fitting for a lovely beauty such as yourself."
And that was indeed the truth! He cast his gaze back to the golden flower that rested upon her leg before heaving a slight sigh. Shaking his head, mostly in frustration that his curiosity required him to mention it so soon, he tossed the mare a rueful grin. "Forgive me for so swiftly calling in to question that golden flower upon her hip but I'm plagued with a burning curiousity. In my foalhood I met a lovely violet filly by name of Nituna. She also harbored such a mark and I can't help but wonder if perhaps you two are of some relation?"

He was watching her again, and this time her nose took on a darker hue as though she was blushing a little. How silly.. she thought of herself, but she'd not encountered what felt like such a frank appraisal before and was unsure as to how to take it.
She watched as he mimicked her own movements, causing a soft smile to appear on her face. 'The wind is feeling playful today I believe.' she commented, her eyes flickering to the braids that danced around him for a moment before coming to a rest. 'If you didn't laugh at my falling into the water at least a small amount, I would probably think you aloof.' Nivriti confessed, her eyes twinkling a little. That she couldnt stand; one that gave themselves airs and graces, acting in all pomposity. 'Everyone has to have some small sense of humour, they wouldn't be fun otherwise.'
'Yes?' she looked directly at him at the quiet speaking of her name. 'Thank you, it means 'Bliss' in a foreign tongue. Does your name have a meaning behind it?' she enquired, her brow furrowing a moment as he cast a glance once more towards mark of her birth, but it cleared as she listened to what would explain the fascination he had with the lotus mark. 'Nituna is my sister,' she confirmed. 'I hope that satisfies your curiosity as far as it concerned?' she chuckled a little before asking. 'Do you know her well?' She had to ask, she'd not seen her sister in a while, and had no idea if she was entertaining any suitors. Not that she herself was thinking that far ahead, but she would not wish to overstep any bounds.

Althalus couldn't help but laugh at her description of humor - or the lack there of. Giving a small shake of his head, the stallion snorted dismissively, eyes bright with delight at such words. "Oh, I must admit m'dear, I am far from aloof. Good humor is my specialty, mixed with a penchant for adventure that often results in a little bit of trouble, a few more scrapes and bruises and a lot of fond memories. I fear I couldn't be aloof, even if I tried." The male couldn't ever see himself not being sociable, or allowing himself to enjoy ones company or surroundings. The world was meant to be enjoyed and teasing and playful mockery weren't meant to be used as offenses to another.
There were some who couldn't stand a touch of humility, and Althalus knew not how they survived. If one couldn't laugh at their own follies and could only live in a world chalk full of serious gravity, well, that just wouldn't do at all! They were depriving themselves of a wonderful palette of emotions and couldn't possibly be living very fun lives at all.
But, fun was all in the eye of the beholder and Althalus did his best not to judge. Only ponder.
Turning his attention back to the wind, his expression brightened at the meaning of her name. Bliss. It seemed quite fitting, especially with the beauty of the name upon such a beautiful lady, but upon her question he gave a small nod. "I am unsure whether the name holds any real definition, but I myself was named after my father's dearest friend. It came as a surprise to my mother and he, considering it was a . . . . a friend of the family, a sort of shaman if you will, that dubbed us all names. And considering my namesake has been passed away for many a few years, and neither shaman nor he had met. . . ." The stallion shrugged at the irony, proud of his name but ever amused at the trouble he had stirred even upon his birth.
Still, Althalus was more interested in getting to know the brown mare before him. His grin broadened at confirmation, silver eyes sparkling in delight. "Indeed, my curiosity is quite satisfied, thank you. I knew her better in my foalhood, and admit I haven't seen her as frequently as I would care to. I do consider her a friend though, regardless of such separation. Still, I am greatly honored and pleased to be able to meet yet another in her family; it is obvious that great beauty runs in no short of supply."
He couldn't help himself - both Nituna and Nivriti were lovely and he could only imagine what sort of great wonders their parents might be. He was never too shy to speak his mind, and unlike some who spoke such words for one reason and one reason alone, Althalus genuinely meant them. There was no greater pleasure than to admire a mare, especially one so well deserving.

'I am glad to hear that, but I guessed as much from the moment we met.' Nivriti teased with a smile. First impressions did count for her, and he'd shown traces of that humour from the start.
She listened as he explained about his own name origins, and gave a small nod; 'Yours is a fine name, and a finer thing still to carry the name of someone who no longer walks in the world. It gives them a small amount of permanency I think.' she was serious for a moment. Memories. To be remembered. Wasn't that what everyone wanted for themselves? 'We pass who we are to our children in a way..I know my mother did with me, my father used to say I was the miniature version of her when I was a filly.' she smiled.
'Oh I see.' she was pleased that it was only an aquaintance made when they were young, she was hopeful that this was the start of a good friendship. He was bright, he had humour and was charming. 'I shall pass your compliments to my mother at any rate, though my father is a handsome fellow, I'm not too sure he'd appreciate being complimented by another male.' her nose wrinkled with her laughter. 'You were just as well blessed.' she returned the compliment in kind. 'And you have brothers? Sisters?'

Althalus was pleased by the spot of conversation he landed. His thirst was now long forgotten as he had a new acquaintance and friend within the works - and to think, he had bumped in to the sister of his foalhood companion! The world, no matter how great it seemed, could indeed be quite the small place. Strange how things like that could happen and work, but the sunset male couldn't help but be pleased by such an event. It had landed him a spectacular show and some amiable company.
He truly couldn't have asked for more.
The stallion gave a nod, braids swinging lightly against his neck at such a motion. "You speak true," he agreed with a grin, "As I have been told to carry the recklessness of my father." He didn't mention that his own flirtatious behavior was closely related to his father's earlier rakish ways - that, he understood, wasn't necessarily a compliment to some. "It is the way of things, to pass oneself down the line of a family - a blessing, truly, to see the reflection of the past within those that will survive the future." And wasn't that the truth!
As the conversation turned in to something less serious - despite the lightness of speech - the stallion tossed Nivriti a rueful grin. "I don't doubt that that, for both his sake and mine, such an unspoken compliment would will harm his pride. Though I don't doubt he himself is graced with an unparalleled charm, we can but keep that to ourselves." He winked, laughter dancing behind his gaze. "As for my family, indeed - I have three other siblings, each of the same age. Two brothers, Ambroise and Killian, and a sister Adarna. We were a wild bunch within the mountains, I fear, but... Tis been quite awhile since I've last seen them." The stallion's good humor and delight faltered for a but a moment as he thought back to the last time he'd spent any good deal of time WITH his brothers, sister and parents.
It had been quite a long while. After he'd grown large enough to explore, he'd seemingly disappeared from the mountain of his youth. Out to conquer the world, to see what lie beyond the horizon of the mountains. Yes, he'd discovered a lot and had met many a good acquaintance. . . . But perhaps - perhaps sometime soon he should return. If only to visit.
Ah - but such thoughts! Giving a soft snort, he refocused his attention upon the brown and cream mare, smile renewed. "Tell me, lovely, do you hail frequently around these parts or are you but a wanderer?"

'Did you want to walk?' Nivriti asked, golden eyes on him again, and she smiled softly. 'I tend to like to move. I mean unless you wish to stay here, or I've interrupted your doing something?' she hadnt even inquired as to why he'd been here, they'd just started chatting in such an easy fashion that she'd forgotten some of her manners.
She chuckled a little at the description of her father, nodding; 'I don't think he would take offense really, more he wouldn't know what to say to it.' She listened attentively as he spoke. 'Oh, but you do have a large family. And to think when I was younger I sometimes thought it hard having just the one sister.' she laughed a little at that. 'You went travelling yes? I think most do that when they come of age. I haven't travelled so very far myself but I've been trying to perfect my flight skills. As you saw.' Her nose took on a darker hue at his words and she became shy for a moment. 'Uh..well my mother and father both live around here, I sort of spent my time between them. My mother has attachments to the two-legged's home place, and my father wanders around. But I've not seen either for several weeks.'

Althalus chuckled softly, giving his head a small shake at her concern for interruption. His red bangs fell back in to his gaze, and he puffed slightly so the glorious wind before him wasn't hidden from view. "I assure you there was no such interruption, and even if there had, I couldn't think imagine a more lovely distraction." He tossed her a good humored wink, moving forward and brushing past her to the edge of the lake. Lowering his head, the large stallion took but a moment to quench his thirst - he might as well while they were here. Hadn't that been his initial reason for seeking out the lake anyway? The water was cool against his tongue, and he enjoyed its sweetness. Still, a few gulps and he was satisfied, stepping away to turn back towards his new acquaintance.
Dipping his neck and front half, in a graceful bow, the stallion smiles. "Let us walk then, m'dear, and see where our hooves might take us." His long, red tail swished easily behind him as he began heading away from the lake, in no rush to be rid of her company, and in no demanding need to know where they might travel. Althalus kept his attention solely on the wind goddess besides him, quite content and curious to hear what she might speak and say.
Chuckling lightly, he gave a little nod at her words. "Indeed my family is quite large, and though I love them all dearly, I will say there was a larger sense of competition with three others besides myself." He rolled his silver eyes, reminiscing but a moment of all the trouble he and Ambroise had caused, as well as the wild nights with the six of them holed up within the hills. "Ah, but I must admit a slight moments jealousy. To perfect such aerial skills, which I do believe you will in no amount of time, you are given a freedom that is neither hindered by hill nor mountain. My father, and two of my siblings were blessed with wings, and I must say you have outshone them all." His words were sincere, as he had yet to see Ambroise and his sister fly near as graceful. Grencia had talant and years experience upon the mare, but again, he had never witnessed his father perform such a trick along the waters edge.
Another nod at her words, and the male gave an amiable grin. "Then perhaps you might be anxious to visit one or the other? Though I spend much time apart from my family, I have yet to out grow a, how shall I put it, a need for their affection and love? I find company to be the greatest pleasure, but no matter how far I roam, there's something irreplaceable about a families love." He was rambling, he knew, but it didn't bother him. He wasn't about to bore her with his detailed views on life, and love, and family and travel - oh no! But that didn't mean he couldn't offer his thoughts.

Again her nose darkened; he was certainly free with the compliments! Not that she minded really, just wasn't used to being praised by someone who she considered equally attractive - in a physical way, she thought quickly, lost for a moment in her thoughts. She watched, waiting for him to slake his thirst, and then moved off when he did, as they left the vicinity of the Lake, walking away in a slow, meandering fashion.
'Competition? In what ways do you compete with your siblings?' she asked, flicking her wings as the breeze played with her feathers. 'I don't really think that's something I worry about with Nituna, we are quite different from each in personality, well we were more so when we were little.' Nivriti smiled at Althalus. 'If I could but gift you the ability to fly I would. Or carry you,' she giggled at that thought.
'Thank you,' she said, acknowledging the compliments of her flight skills with a little nod. 'Well, I shall see them when I see them. Family love is all very well, but mothers tend to ask questions about ones - well love life.' she flicked her mane as it strayed across her face again. 'I think it's one of those things they do.' she smiled wryly.

Althalus wasn't so ignorant so as not to see her darkened nose; he found it endearing and he had to admit, it tickled him pink to see just the slightest flush of colour cross her features. There was something lovely in a mare that stood out when such praise caused them no arrogance or conceit, though he did want to question her on the reaction. Surely a wind beauty such as she was used to being praised and spoken well of - it couldn't be a surprise or something new. Still, it wasn't his place to tease her about such a thing, and he refused to bring attention to it. Not yet at least - they were yet new acquaintances and he had yet to understand the boundaries of teasing and games.
The young stallion looked thoughtful for a moment as she questioned his foalhood competition, and he gave a rueful grin. "Well, I suppose it isn't so apparent or existent now that we're all grown, but as foals there was a fight for attention. Not so much with my sister, but us boys tended to be more rough and tumble with one another; Ambroise held his flight and agility, like Father, and I used to believe he was the favorite." He grinned, no malice or jealousy within his words, having long since out grown such a belief. "There were typical sibling games; who was best at this, who could out do that, who would get away with most trouble without being caught - anything to get a few more moments of praise from one of our parents." The sunset male gave a shrug, tossing a few of his braids to the opposite side of his neck. "But at the very least, regardless, the good thing about having such a large family meant there was never a lack a company." It had kept things interesting, and Althalus himself hoped to have a large family himself someday. Perhaps not a set of four, like his mother had been so lucky to receive, but a few foals nonetheless.
Still, the stallion paused in his walk, giving Nivriti a long look before his silver eyes danced delightedly at the thought. Laughing at the image, he gave a dismissive shake of his head and added kindly, good-humor within this voice, "I fear we'd be quite the ridiculous pair, should you ever somehow manage to life me free from the ground. Perhaps it was the reason I was given such a thick tail and mane - t'would be easy to grab a mouthful and take off." Snorting in delight, the stallion could only see it now and the image was almost painful. "I think I make a better anchor than anything though," He admitted as he craned his head, glancing at his heavy frame and stature; he'd been the largest born in his family, and such a fact had yet to change. "But there are advantages to being land locked. There's no better way to admire the elegant aerials you displayed earlier; Such a beauty deserves proper admiration and should I have wings, I fear I might have taken such a show for granted or payed less attention to those within the air. " And should he not have noticed Nivriti earlier, the entire acquaintance might have been lost, and that would be quite the shame indeed.
As the subject moved on to family and mothers, the stallion's nostrils flared and he stomped his hoof to agree. Another rumbling laugh followed, and the red haired stallion couldn't help but roll his eyes. "Didn't you know, m'lady fair? Upon having children, it is a mothers duty to poke, pry and otherwise bring herself in to knowing the ins and outs of her children's personal life - especially when it comes to matters of the heart!" Winking at his companion, he gave another snort, "Why do you think I travel so far? Besides sedating my curiosity to the world around me, out here I haven't need to face such interrogations on a regular basis." Not, of course, that there was much to tell.
He had many a mare as a friend, but the majority he never saw again or lost contact with during his travels. None had taken a keen interest in him personally, but such was the way of things. He'd find a keeper sooner or later but was in no rush to push such an idea. When it happened - it happened - and that would be that.

Nivriti listened quietly as they strolled on, occasionally having to puff the mane hairs from her face as the breeze continued to tug on it. Her tail trailed lazily behind her, an odd flick keeping it from the squishier ground underfoot.
'Just sibling rivalry then?' she summed up when Althalus paused. 'I sometime wonder what it would have been like to have had a brother, but Nituna was quite tomboyish as a filly so maybe it wouldn't have been much different.' she giggled a little, watching the fall of his braids as he gave them a flick once more. Stop staring! she chastised herself. Just her luck, the mused as they walked, the first stallion she'd had a proper conversation with (well bar her father, and he didn't count), and he happened to be rather attractive.
'Oh but I wouldn't want to do that,' she shook her head as she eyed the luxurious tail and the thick mane. 'I might kink your hair, and it does suit you so,' she smiled, ignoring the warm nose feeling again. 'Ohh..pssshh, it really wasn't that good,' she rustled her wings, if he kept doing that she was worried the colour change would spread over her whole face. The warm feeling did seem to grow when he once more complimented her flying prowess.
Nivriti nodded. 'I know. I also know my mother only wishes me the same happiness in life as she herself has but I always felt that when I found the one, I'd know it.' she looked at Althalus. 'It isn't as though she wants me to attach myself to anyone, but maybe her 'grand-maternal' clock is ticking.' she laughed a little at that.
