The young lioness had been spending time with her great nephew recently, he was teaching her the things which she did not know, mostly things about males and social skills. He'd provided her with somewhere to stay, and caught her meals for her. If 'Zeki wasn't family, she'd start to be suspicious.
The pridelands was a vast place, full with many many lions, the pride had certainly expanded from the early days of Mufasas ruling, her father had taught her so. She'd learnt alot about family life, but of course, to learn, one had to have experience, and it was that she was lacking in. Her chocolate coat was in need of a clean, and she'd left the den for awhile to wander for a bit, so, lying in the grasses, she ran her tongue over her pelt to give it a good clean.

Alamar, like most youngsters he had a strong drive to explore the world around him. And since every pride member he'd ever encountered had been nice, he felt safe wandering off. He loved his family but seemed to spend most of his time day dreaming and following his curiousity.
Today that was in the form of a beetle that flew off everytime he tried to get too close. He chased it at a gamboling pace and tried not to bang into anyone lazing about. Tried to anyway.
"Sorry, 'scuse me, pardon me -!" He rushed on muttering apologies in his wake, heading Mia's way.

She heard a small voice, and in the distance saw a cub bounding towards her. Mia smiled. This was all part of living in the pridelands, watching the effects of large families, and the effects of the circle of life. There were many adults in the pride, but there was also many cubs.
She counted his steps, quickly, never dropping a number or two. Gosh, she did love her numbers.
As the cub sped closer she stood up, so he wouldn't fall over her or anything, and she called out to him. The chocolate lioness felt much more comfortable in social situations, now, thanks to Ezekiel. "Hey, what's the hurry?"

A chocolate female stood up in front of him and caught his eye. The cub's teeth clicked together on empty air as he took one last snap at the beetle - then he turned his friendly smile on Mia and the insect took its chance at an escape. While he wasn't so fond of girls his age aside from his sisters, this one was an adult and looked as nice as everyone else.
"I was after a bug!" He explained happily.

Aww, she thought. Wasn't he sweet. She couldn't wait for the day when she could raise a family of her own, and sit and teach them, and play with them, and count with them. Mia smiled brightly at the little cub. "I see, practising your hunting skills, were you?" She settled herself down again and glanced around for a moment, before turning her attention back to the cub. "So, what's your name then?" She asked, sweetly.

"Alamar. M'one of Mchengo's boys." He explained. Most he'd met so far had asked who his family was too and to be honest he was proud of his family. For girls his sisters were awesome and he had some great brothers, even though he didn't really hang around with 'em too much.
"Who're you?"

Mchengo! Number 7. She thought happily. Yes, she'd known of her sisters new cubs, but sadly, having a large family she had not yet had time to visit them. Her father had told her of her good news, and to tell the truth, Mia did not know if Mchengo had moved or left. The lioness was happy to know that she was meeting more family, and moved foward to nuzzle the cub, which probably scared him half to death but she smiled and explained. "I am Mchengos sister. Which makes me your aunty." Laughing lightly a little at the chance meeting she introduced herself. "I'm aunt Mia."

In truth, Alamar's ears did flick back and he crouched down towards the ground - not real fear just confusion. He thought she was going to pick him up and take him back towards the inner lands, though he wasn't too near the borders as far as he knew. Maybe she was a nanny? Oh no it wasn't for a stupid bath...
But as she nuzzled him and explained he stood up straight again and even managed a hint of a purr. Aunty eh? He'd not met one of those yet!
"Hello Aunty Mia. Momma's mentioned you before."

"Sorry if I startled you, young Alamar." Her kind maroon eyes swept over the cub, and she could see Mchengos features reflected in him. Yes, he was one of the family. She couldn't wait to tell father that she'd met another of her nephews! He'd be so proud. In fact, Mia hadn't spoken to her father for awhile now and she missed him.
"How is your mother doing?" She asked sweetly.

"She and dad are fine." Well, they did the usual things adults did and seemed happy so he guessed they were! He couldn't wait to tell them he'd met an aunty now. Alamar knew his extended family was huge. The odds of him not meeting one had to be high.
"You should come visit and see 'em and meet my brothers and sisters and everyone." He babbled happily.

She loved her family, she really did. Alamar was so sweet, babbling happily about his family that he reminded her of herself when she was young. Mia smiled and nodded. "Of couse, there is nothing better than family, dont you think?" Dropping her head near to that of the cubs, and spoke quietly. "Perhaps you'd like to learn of our other relatives? I could tel you facts, stories and truths, if you wished." She was always taking it upon herself to educate someone, but in fact most of her time was spent practising with numbers, and teaching herself, for she knew there was much more to learn in this world. "Or perhaps, I could teach you about numbers?" The lioness asked happily.

"I'm not very good with numbers..." He said sheepishly. Alamar had more fun things to be curious about and had never taken to anything as technical and tricksey as math. "Family lessons would probably be better. I'd get stuck with math."
"Hey, do you have any cubs too, aunty Mia?" The thought struck him that he might have cousins. After all, she as his momma's sister and his momma had had him.

She smiled gently, her eyes wide. "It's okay, I'm sure I could tell you about family." Mia answered his question quickly. "No, I don't." Everyone was grown up now, and having families of their own, would she ever have one? Oh well, not to worry, she still had he family members. "But you do have other cousins, for example take Malaikas litter, they're your cousins!" She smiled brightly. Alamar also had cousins from Mbari and Kiburi and Mchele, but she figured that their stories and situations would be a little less easy to explain.

"I kinda knew that..." Alamar nodded. He vaguely knew his family tree and knew they had lots of relatives. He'd just not been sure Mia was the one who didn't have cubs or not - momma did have sisters who had - but maybe he'd got his M-names mixed up.
"Actually, maybe math would be better? Families just as confusing and my brother always finds it funny when I can't get higher than eleven."

She nodded, and seeing his confusion, tailed away from the family conversation. It was enough that she got confused with her family sometimes, and Alamar was young and didn't understand as well. At least her counting and numbering helped her to remember, though.
"Well, what do you want to know about math?" She smiled gently. "After eleven comes twelve, and then thirteen." Her father had taught her all the numbers when she was a cub, but it seemed she was the only one who had taken such a liking to the subject.
