Viscoso pranced along happily, his basket swinging back and forth in his mouth as he looked around for treats to bring back for his mate. Hearing the news that she was with child had made him happier than he had ever been before and it showed with every step he took and everything he did. Right now he try to do a back flip and risk breaking his back if she asked him to, he wanted her happy and content right up until the babies were born.
He stopped beside a large apple tree and began picking down some of the ripest apples he can find, placing them in the basket afterwards. Apples were all he could usually find and even those were scarce this time of year. At least the two legger she took care of had plenty of sugar!

Hayagriva needed a little time away. He had tried to convince himself he wasn't running from the hormonal Ayanna but he had to admit that a break would be nice. He hadn't had a lot of experience with mares and still didn't as far as he was concerned. He didn't know what they liked or why they did things. He especially didn't know why they did things when they were pregnant.
As he walked he found himself passing apple trees. There was a bit of relief. He took one into his mouth and crunched contentedly. There wasn't much a good apple couldn't cure. He was taking his second bite when he heard something behind him. Another soquili? He looked over his shoulder, squinted, then whirled around entirely.
"Viiiiiiiiiiiis!" he shouted with surprised joy, spitting chunks of apple as he bounded over to his old friend.

Viscoso dropped the perfectly ripe apple that was in his mouth and almost spilled over his basket of apples when a shout rang out behind him. Ears pinned back he gave a small snort. Who would shout randomly scaring everyone half to death?! Turning to give the shouter a piece of his mind he saw a familiar red and gold Soquili...Only a larger version! "Haya!" he shouted back, trotting to meet his friend. "You've sure grown since the last time I saw you, Haya. I'm sorry I haven't come to visit. Been busy lately with becoming a father soon and all." He puffed up a little as he headed back to his basket with Haya. "These are for my mate, I think I've been giving her too much but I want to make sure she has enough, y'know?" Vis smiled happily, unaware that he had ranted a bit, which he did a lot lately when it involved Krysta and his future babies. "What about you? What have you been up to?"

Haya's mouth dropped open when he heard that Vis not only had a mate but was an expecting father. This was it! He was saved! "Vis! You have to help me! What do you do for pregnant mares?"
He had hoped to say it a little more subtly but there it was, spilled out before them. Haya took a deep breath after his outburst and calmed down a little. This was Vis. Vis was Haya's only stallion contact as a colt and so he had always operated under the assumption that Vis knew everything that it was useful for a stallion to know.
"What I mean is..." He tried to start over coherently. "I'm going to be a father too... I just have no idea what to do..."

Vis blinked at Haya curiously, speechless for the time being. "Well...You're sure jumping into adulthood early, Haya. But I guess you can't go back now. Walk and talk with me Haya." He started walking in no particular direction, leaving his basket and knowing that it would be there when he got back. "Tell me about her, Haya. It depends on her temperment on how to handle it and what to do for her. Some mares get VERY emotional during pregnancy and others, like my mate, are happy to be pregnant and don't get very moody. In general though, just make sure she's comfortable, get her whatever she craves or she'll probably get moody and just be there for her. You may find this surprising but even I don't know what I'm doing. I'm going on instinct and so far she hasn't corrected me on anything. I don't know how to be a father or if I'll be a good one but we all have to take it one step at a time. I'm sure once both of our children arrive we'll get the hang of it." He smiled to the younger stallion and swished his tail lightly as they walked along through the trees.

"Well she has been getting moody," Haya admitted while walking. "Her name's Ayanna. She's got a horn like you but also has wings like a butterfly. I've never seen another soquili like her... but..." He grimaced a little and scuffed a hoof through the dead leaves below them. "But... we didn't really plan this. I think that's why she's moody."
He was scuffing all his hooves now, gaze set fixedly downwards to avoid eyecontact with the unicorn. "I don't even know how to be a dad. Not like I had one, except hanging out with you a bit." The pregnancy was confusing and a little stressful but it was what came after it that had Haya worried.

Viscoso chuckled as he looked at Haya. "My mate is the same. A horn like mine and butterfly wings, though I'm sure the wings look different in color and shape. I had assumed that it wasn't planned by your reaction and since you are rather young. But if she hasn't killed you yet then she obviously wants you around." He smiled, hoping the joke would lighten the mood.
"As I said, I don't know how either. I've just got to do what I think is right for the babies and that's what you need to do. Protect them, feed them and take care of them. Your father was weak, not having the guts to take care of his own child. It takes a true stallion to raise children properly and you're going to do wonderfully, Haya. Just don't stress too much."

Haya grunted at the mention of his father. People didn't often talk to him about his father and when they did it was usually with sympathy. It was rare to hear someone decrying him not for his species but for his parenting skills. He liked that Vis had made the distinction.
"If anyone tries to mess with my kids I'll kick their face in," Haya growled protectively. "'I've been hoping..." He trailed off for a moment as if embarrassed at what he was about to say. "I've been hoping that one would have my tail." He waved it over his head for emphasis like he had done as a colt. "I could teach them how to do all sots of neat things with it!"

"And that's your fatherly instinct kicking in," he said with a proud smile. "You might surprise yourself with how much you grow to care and love something that wasn't expected or in your case, not wanted at the time." Viscoso stopped in a nice large patch of grass and started grazing a bit. "It wouldn't surprise me if one of them did have a tail like yours. And I can see that you're going to have a lot of fun with your children. You're a kid at heart just like me," he chuckled. "Tell ya what. Come by anytime with your kids and have a play date or something. Get them used to socializing and all."

Haya seized on the idea cheerfully. "Yeah, a playdate!" He remembered being a foal and how he had enjoyed his rare contact with others his age. He hadn't even had siblings to make it easier. It'd be a lot more fun to be a foal with more foals around to play with. "I guess their moms will have to teach them about flying... if any of them have wings... I guess there's no way to tell before you see them, right?" He had never had to think about these things before but the more he thought about them the more excited at the idea he became. Dealing with Ayanna during the pregnancy might not be fun but the foals themselves would be!

Viscoso shrugged a bit. "Depends. Krysta doesn't really fly. One of the first times we met I helped convince her to try it for the first time but the butterfly wings are weaker than actual wings. She might teach them and if not we'll just coax them up and explain how to do it. I don't know if your mare likes to fly or not so like I said, it depends." Vis smiled at Haya at the mention of not being able to tell what they looked like. "Not until they come out of their baskets. It's always a surprise but a very exciting surprise," he said, dancing on his hooves a bit.

It had also never occurred to Haya that some soquili might have wings and not use them. It seemed like a terrible waste to not even know if you could fly or not. If he had wings he was certain he would have tried them out as soon as he could. Still... he supposed mares liked to be a little more cautious about such things.
"I wish we could just skip the part where the mares are fat," complained Haya with a sigh. "They don't like it and it's no fun to wait. I just want the foals to be here already."

Viscoso laughed at Haya's statement, it being obvious that he sure was still a colt at heart. "Patience, Haya. Plus not all mares loathe pregnancy. Krysta loves it and is happy to carry our babies. Does this mare of yours not like it? Cause some do and some don't, just depends." Vis tugged on Haya's mane lightly. "I'm sure they'll be here soon, just wait," he smiled.

"Not soon enough," Haya grumbled. "Sometimes she's ok with it and sometimes Ayanna just... gets annoyed at it all. I would too if I was her.. but it'd be easier on both of us if it was over with." He tugged back at Vis' mane, playfulness coming back with a smirk.
"I bet my kids will be faster than yours. We'll have to race them sometime! Loser has to find something tasty for the winner!" He could imagine his foals already. Of course they'd be faster! They'd be fast and have cool tails and with their mother's wings be flying all over the place!

"Just give her time and she'll relax...Maybe when the babies are born but eventually she'll calm down and become less moody."
Viscoso rolled his eyes just thinking about making their kids race for food. "That's ridiculous, Haya. I'm not going to make my babies race yours. If they want to on their own just for PLAYING then that's fine." He turned and flicked his tail at Haya and started trotting. "Besides, at least my kids will be smarter," he smirked back at the younger stallion. "Brains beat speed anyday, everyone knows that."
