Azima hummed as he lay in the shade of the pride rock, eyes half shut. He was drifting in and out of sleep, if only because it was such a warm day. He wished Roho was around but he didn't want to bother him all of the time... that would be like smothering, wouldn't it? He'd just have to deal with his boredom himself.
He slowly rose and stretched, his gaze slowly heading toward the direction of his old homelands. He watched the horizon for a moment, thinking only of his mother. He smiled faintly and nodded his head to it before starting to head toward the pride watering hole.

Memetuka lived near Pride Rock, but she did not always come so close to it. Since meeting Feo, she'd tried to come around occassionally to see if he was still watching for his lady friend- but she had not spotted him since. And since reconciling with Shiri, she'd been very busy. Quite suddenly, she was a mother- and even more than that, she was a grandmother. It was almost like a clean slate, they wouldn't know what had happened, they visited and enjoyed her company just because she was family..
With the idea of perhaps going to visit her niece, she was heading back towards Pride Rock from the watering hole, where she had left Cheshi and Sungura for a bit. She was especially proud of Cheshi for getting out and about more, letting her leave them there was a big step.
Feel happier than she had in a long time, she walked along with a smile on her face.

Azima's tail flicked and his gaze wasn't focused on anything any longer as he walked the familiar path. He'd made Roho take him to the watering hole repeatedly one day so he could remember it. He chuckled lightly and shook his head. The things his mate put up with... but he was a pretty big push over. Azima began to purr as he thought about Roho and his smile widened. That didn't matter, Azima wouldn't let any one else walk all over him. Regardless if he did.
His ear flicked as his gaze drifted over some of the beautiful gold of the pridelands and then he did a double take. Ah, a pride female! He moved toward her. "Hi there." He called out.

Memetuka noticed the bright red male before he saw her, which caused her to pause briefly. Red was not a color with a very good reputation, but they were well, well within the boundaries of the Pridelands so it was very unlikely to be anyone unfriendly. With this in mind, she smiled once again at the friendly greeting.
"Hello," she replied, "Lovely day for a walk, isn't it?"
Small talk. She'd been working on that, it was almost as if she were learning with her grandcubs.

Azima had no where near the build of a firekin any how, he didn't look threatening. He was skinny and lanky but definitely healthy. He was happy to be talking to a stranger in the pridelands, he couldn't spend every second with Roho after all. "Yes, the weather is wonderful for walking... except when one is thirsty." He grinned and shrugged.
"Heading to the watering hole, then?"

She nodded her agreement with his commentary, except for when he asked if she was heading to the waterhole. At this, Memetuka offered an almost regretful smile.
"I'm just heading back from it, actually," she explained, "I left a friend there, she's trying to become more independent.."

He frowned and nodded. "Ah! I was just headed toward it.." He laughed and shrugged. But privately he thought he could put off getting a drink for a little good conversation, that seemed better to him at the moment.
He frowned in puzzlement and stared at the female a moment. More independent? He wondered if she was young. "Ah, well good luck to her." He smiled. "I'm Azima by the way."

Meme nodded when he laughed and said he was heading for the waterhole, having gathered as much from what he had said, "If you see a couple of hares there, try not to startle them too much." No matter how Meme explained it, or how many times she reassured her, Cheshi seemed to believe Meme was one of the few truly trustworthy lions.
"Oh," Meme laughed quietly when Azima introduced himself, realizing that introductions were something she quite often overlooked, "I'm Memetuka, it's a pleasure to meet you, Azima."

He blinked and looked surprised as she mentioned the hares. Was she friends with them or something? He wanted to say that lions usually ate hares but he held his tongue. "Er, I'll try not to." He said, shifting and looking away as a sudden urge to laugh about this over came him. It passed and luckily he hadn't laughed, which would have been rude.
"Memetuka... great, it will be good to get to know a few faces around here!" He lightly smiled at her. "I've just got to these lands a few days ago. I'm staying with my mate."

It would not have been too surprising for Azima to laugh at what she said, but she generally believed that the animals found near the central Pridelands were safe. Shiri had mentioned it in a discussion about when she'd joined the pride, though Meme had yet to confess that Shiri was a cousin of the Queen's.
"You're new?" she asked rhetorically, "Was your mate already a member, or did you join together? I hope you're liking it here.."

He grinned and nodded. "Yes, but I've been here a few times before deciding to stay... well I hope to stay. I have yet to meet the king or queen." In fact he'd been meaning to ask Roho more about the royalty here, he felt a little sheepish getting onto this topic. He never had to think about this kind of stuff before because where he was from he was part of the royal line.. He sighed softly and figured they'd get to it when they would.
"Yes my mate was born and raised here... H-h.." He trailed off for a second because he always felt a bit nervous revealing Roho's gender. His stupid father... why had he made him feel so guilty about this... but he had to believe more lions would be like his mother; accepting. "He loves it here very much so I thought it would be okay to come here." He smiled nervously.

"I doubt the queen would turn you away," she said confidently, in the same tone she'd used when reassuring Shiri about this- except there was no hidden anxiety this time, she had no reason to worry now. "She let me stay, and after running away I wouldn't have blamed her for not letting me come back.."
She smiled sadly, unable to help but continue to feel that way about what she had done.
"I suppose that's what family is best at, forgiveness," Meme decided with a smile, having received more than her fair share of it in recent days. She listened to him continue, saying his mate was born here- the hesitation was initially what drew her attention to exactly what he was saying. At first, it sounded to her like he was calling his mate a he! And surprise, surprise- that's exactly what he did. Memetuka was surprised, for of course her first idea was that it would be a girl, but the hesitation and nervous smile were enough to remind her to be polite.
"That's nice," she said, smiling almost immediately to cover up her surprise, "It is a very nice place to live, I'm sure you won't regret it."

Azima beamed at her and nodded. "I hope not, I think it's really beautiful here." He knew (or hoped he knew) that Roho would leave with him if he was refused acceptance into the pride. They'd go somewhere new to both of them if that happened though, Azima really didn't care for the Kusini'Mwezi lands.
His head tilted a little and a sad look came to his eyes and he looked away, shrugging lightly. "Some family is good with forgiveness. Really it depends on the lion, right?" That was his thought on it, anyhow.
He was glad she wasn't disgusted by his life-partner choice though, that made him feel easier around her. He was making friends and this was good, he'd had no friends back at home.

"Well, you seem very nice to me and as far as I know everyone is quite welcome here," she said, trying to make a point of it. After all, she couldn't imagine any reason someone would be turned away, not imagining any possibilities of it backfiring. His sad look at the discussion on forgiveness made her frown.
"I suppose so," she said hesitantly, "I hope your mate is good family, at least." At this, Meme smiled hopefully again. Despite the awkwardness, it was nice talking to someone new again.

At this he seemed to cheer up and he nodded to her with a grin. "Very good family." He agreed, smiling lightly. He had yet to meet any of his family though but for Azima Roho would be family enough if it remained the two of them forever.
"Ah anyhow, my thirst grows every minute." He grinned at her and stood, stretching. "Thank you Meme, perhaps we'll run into each other again?" In fact Azima was hoping they would, he'd enjoyed his time with her very much and thought they could be good friends.
